A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

Kodos JohnsonFull-Width Justification With Snakes Inspired by XKCD #1676, the challenge is to implement full-width text justification using snakes as filler text. Write a program or function that takes two parameters: A positive integer n representing the line width and a string containing the text to forma...

New idea: Star Wars, but it ends after the movie's runtime elapsed.
hmm not sure how well it'll be received
Bee Movie, but it's the actual movie.
Number One, but the video just keeps buffering.
I'm good at this.
This is a list of scandals or controversies whose names in scholarly sources include a "-gate" suffix, by analogy with the Watergate scandal. This list also includes controversies that are widely referred to with a "-gate" suffix, but may be referred to by another more common name in scholarly sources (such as New Orleans Saints bounty scandal). Although the Watergate scandal was specifically to do with internal US politics, the "-gate" suffix has been used throughout the English-speaking world. == Etymology, usage, and history of -gate == The suffix -gate derives from the Watergate scandal of...

I feel like neural networks would work particularly well for memory management
(both for memory caches as well as identifying what to swap)
They work even better for code execution. Branch prediction in some Intel and AMD chips uses a rudimentary ANN.
yeah, that makes sense as well
@NathanMerrill Yes, but ANNs are heavy
really, though?
they take a bit of time to warm up, but they don't take a bunch of custom hardware
Specialized ones are not, as it evident by their use in CPU's.
An analogy would be an ASIC.

@Dennis multi-language snippets on TIO
(with some sort of communication in between would be nice=)
does anyone know of a place where I could get a FREE domain name?
Like actually free, not buy this plan and get a free domain. I've already tried noip but theres doesn't work because it uses an iframe.
ik you can get cheap ones, for like 99 cents, but I don't really have 99 cents atm xD
I don't think completely free domain names are a thing. Unless subdomains work, e.g. ashwingupta.github.io
@AshwinGupta I thought .tk domains were free, but only for a limited amount of time or so
they are
but they don't have a DNS server attached afaik and only last for a year
23:37
@flawr where do I get one?
@ETHproductions no I cant use github, I need it hosted on my server.
The first result for googling .tk gives dot.tk
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ I don't know what a DNS server is, but I don't mind that it will only last for a year
@ETHproductions i tried this, it just freezes
wait what is a dns?
if you have a server, that works
isnt that just a domain w/o www.
no, www is a subdomain for any domain
23:39
I know nothing about http =/
sorry
see, I hit sign up and nothing happens.
I'd be somewhat interested to know why all the answers to codegolf.stackexchange.com/q/104952/32686 are non-golfing ones which seems to be against the trend to use them
i've tried in like 3 browsers.
@AshwinGupta DNS generally is the lookup system via which the Internet takes a name like codegolf.stackexchange.com and works out which computer that refers to
there's a set of "root DNS servers" that let you find any name on the entire Internet, but because there are so many websites, they don't list them all themselves
rather they just list the last component of the name (so, e.g., the root servers will tell you where the directory for .com, .net, and the like are)
@ais523 oh ok. So like if my server is 68.101.98.197:8080. I can use a dns that directs to that.
But this is the thing, im trying to use apache virtual host. I need it to not only redierct, but keep the actual name.
then you'd contact the owners of .com to find out where stackexchange.com is, and the owners of stackexchange.com to find out where codegolf.stackexchange.com is
when you buy a domain name, one of the things you're paying for is the entry in the DNS servers
but it's just a pointer, the detailed information needs to be hosted somewhere
23:45
So... if .tk domain names aren't stored in the DNS servers, how are they reached?
most companies that sell domain names will give free use of their domain name servers as long as you own the domain name, and have an interface via which you can configure their servers appropriately
@ETHproductions the DNS servers for .tk will list which DNS server to contact for each individual .tk site
then those servers will list the actual IPs
Ugh no see... I just registed for a free domain, and it puts my website in a frame with my ip adress.
I need it to use the actual domain name, so that apache virtual host works.
@DJMcMayhem did you save your undertale trading cards?
@AshwinGupta oh, in that case it isn't actually a free domain, it's just a website that embeds yours
right =/
can anyone try this site and see if it works for them?
23:47
because the browser isn't actually being directed to your site, it's being directed to theirs
it just freezes up for me
@ais523 yeah. Could I host my own DNS maybe?
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ prolly not
:/ okay, I'm just missing papryus and flowey
look all I want to do here, is have 2 (or more) websites with apache name-based virtual hosts. Now, I just need some names, aka domains. Where can I get domains that work for that!???!
@ais523 what is to stop me from creating me own DNS server? Will the internet be able to find it?
@AshwinGupta nothing stops you creating your own DNS server, but you'd need to buy a domain name to get it added to the DNS directories or nothing could find it
if you don't want to pay for a domain name (and they can be relatively cheap to hire), I'd recommend using the directory portion of the URL instead
23:52
@ais523 ok, so it doesn't help. I basically need to find a free domain and a free dns server.
@ais523 directory portion?
like, a web page's URL is http://domain/directory/directory/filename

Q: Construct a Gaussian Matrix

milesGaussian blur is a method used for blurring images smoothly. It involves creating a matrix which will be used by convolving it with the pixels of an image. In this challenge, your task is to construct that matrix used in Gaussian blur. You will take an input r which will be the radius of the blur...

I understand.
so like for example, if I currently have the dns ashwingupta.ddns.net, I can have all of my webpages under that?
ashwingupta.ddns.net/site1/page1 , ashwingupta.ddns/site2/page1, etc.
23:54
oh ok
