Greetings
@ConorO'Brien Greetings. Just so you know, you didn't have to delete your answer
Howdy do
The O.P. didn't say anything about the similar answer
I think it is fine if you leave it
@Zavada How's everything going?
Doing fine, et toi?
@Zavada :D glad you like cheddar. >> is probably what you're looking for however it is a signed operation. I don't believe I have an unsigned alternative
Excuse moi, je ne parle très bien françois (misspelled)
I might have butchered that
And I'm doing fine
And on my way out as well
My message was sent and (hopefully) received
Have a good night
05:05
@Downgoat I'm thinking about >> in terms of how in Java >> truncates any bits that go past the end, as opposed to >>> (what I'm wondering about) which wraps the bits
@IsmaelMiguel eh, it's not worth the fight. I might as well.
You too @IsmaelMiguel
Also apologies for my lack of technical terminology, I'm mostly self taught and going to college for CS next year.
@IsmaelMiguel probably better translated as "Excusez-moi, je ne parle pas très bien français"
@Dennis actually the algorithm is incorrect for N = 16 =/
I'm sure that's no Wordpress blog. :/

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

Conor O'BrienImplement ALL of OEIS! code-golf sequence ...well, not quite all of it. Your job is to implement as many OEIS sequences as you can in 50 bytes. You are to write a single program that takes an integer k as input and outputs An(k) for all sequence numbers n implemented. You may write a function ...

@NewSandboxedPosts That reminded me: time to revive nested-programs yet again.
05:47
My "Loop in the End" challenge was never answered at all, except by me.
@Downgoat so it's clear your goat is in a negative state right now, but have you ever considered complex goats?
Random question for you computer nerds. What's the best solution for getting Ethernet to my desktop PC in terms of performance and cost (and not tripping over cables)? A powerline adaptor, a PCI wireless card or a 40 ft Ethernet cable?
06:05
ethernet if you can hide the cable somewhat
otherwise do ethernet over the power network
I can't really hide the cable.
Which is a shame because that looks like the cheapest + most reliable solution

@DJMcMayhem Do you have access to crawl space and hand tools? If so, running a cable through the wall isn't hard at all :)
I don't think there's any crawl space
I don't even know where to look but I doubt it

Hello

1 hour later…
09:18
Nooo, Mego's ahead of me again D:
I guess that figures though. I don't have Polymath, 180°, 6, or 8,243,721
Oh darn, even though I technically earned 385 rep on Thursday, I capped at 195, which means none of it counted toward Third Time's A Charm.
Holy cow, I have been bumped to 4th place after being in 1st for so long
That's what happens when you let up for a couple days ;)
Can someone please post an almost-good challenge so I can close it, edit it, and reopen it? ;-P
exempt, afraid of getting hated on the whole of Internet

so...
pewdiepie has 50 million subscribers
but the math just doesn't add up
that means 1 in every 140 people has subbed to him
that doesn't make any sense
Or there are people with many accounts
well that was kind of what I'm implying
that the numbers are boosted
or what about this video?
@isaacg No! Y'know, no sockpuppets allowed.
427,322,141 views
the fuck is that
for a 32 minute video
of opening kids toys
assuming $1 per 1000 views from ad money, that's a $427,322 video
@TuukkaX : MegaMan XD @all: Sorry for a conversation at which every answer takes a week to be answered XD
09:56
just look at this fucking channel
like it must only be 5 year olds watching this
and he's raking in the money
@orlp Many people have several Google accounts, and I think there is a way to automatically gain subs
he makes like 4 vids per day
spending like 1 hour
avg views per video seems to be around 500k
@orlp This is the WORST and most USELESS YT channel I've ever seen
that's my point
and it generates probably around $1m per year

Hm why did TNBBall got nuked
What's TNBall?
I made a polandball-style panel but with TNB users
Visibly it got Nuked™
Where is TNBBall?
Where did you post it?
Here
In TNB
It got 5 stars

@KritixiLithos Did you retype the same typo second time around, or is it the algorithm that's flawed?
To be honest, I don't know. The code is for rotating a 3d line around an arbitrary axis. It works when I do 1 rotation on one line, but when I create another line that is dependent on the first line and rotate that line, it doesn't work (ie rotating it PI/2 radians doesn't really rotate it by that much)

I'm not sure about the 1h time limit
Should I try and restrain it to 10 minutes?
Actually, I'd say codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/92962 is much more related
It has the same commands, except you can use 1 as many times as you want
13:29
@Flp.Tkc That's also my challenge
I know :)
lol, I was trying out something else for this challenge
I liked the metagolf thing, so I'm going back to that
Peter Taylor said that an hour for those numbers might not be a good enough restraint
15 minutes?
I really want to publish it, I can't really find any faults except for the possible one Peter mentioned
Guys?
it looks ok. the rule about commands altering eachother's "base numbers" is interesting
it might help if you write a simple interpreter thing so people can test their solutions (to see if they've interpreted the challenge correctly)
is a double factorial x!! or (2x)! or 2(x!)?
Double the factorial operation itself, not the result of the factorial
13:36
I think 1 hour per number should be a difficult task to get a perfect score for all 100 numbers
Should I up the range?
That's my main worry
@Qwerp-Derp from your description, it comes across that the triple factorial of 9 would be 9x6x3
@Flp.Tkc That's what it's meant to be
9!!! = 9 * 6 * 3
oh, i get it
I was confused, I thought x!! was literally (x!)!
I think I should up the range a bit, and reduce the time
I've posted the challenge!
The factorials behave weirdly IMO
Just to clarify, 4! = 4*3*2 and 4!! is 4*2, right?
13:45
@KritixiLithos Yup
That's how higher factorials are meant to work
I thought it was weird too, but that's how they are

@redstarcoder No. I've removed the tag.

KC is for shortest code to output a string. People argue over whether or not the string has to be constant, and whether or not input can be involved, but having pauses in the output is definitely not KC.
Oh okay, I was gonna ask: does the Christmas Bug in my question make it KC?
Anyone know why my polandball-style panels are deleted?
Anonymous
Probably not
Alright :)

I'm in the strict KC camp - only constant output, no input

@redstarcoder Good luck.
@zyabin101 thanks I'm gonna try wearing hats upside down
It's Christmas Eve, why are you guys wasting your time here on hats?
@TuxCopter you're going to have to put some restriction on the sequences allowed
14:33
Sorry, I had to say it. Hats are great and all but this concerns me
@quartata Not for me.
no constant sequences, unless you want a dupe of "versatile integer printer"
Eastern Orthodox Christmas is January 7th.
@TuxCopter Could you give some examples?
you should say sequences have to transform the input in some way
14:34
@zyabin101 Interesting.
@quartata don't worry I'll be careful with my hats, no explosions or anything ... probably
Can't say the same for others though
also, @TuxCopter, maybe you should put more strength on languages used than code length. The current scoring system doesn't really encourage you to use many languages, just to do it shortly
i meant "emphasis", not strength :P
So what scoring formula should I use?
Anonymous
@quartata Because it's morning and I don't have anything to do for a few hours
Take a look at some other polyglot challenges. Integer printer puts the emphasis on language using length / langs^3, and some such as "What are you bringing for thanksgiving" are exclusively down to number of languages
14:55
Yay, I got blue in the face!
No clue how though
Anonymous
@DJMcMayhem Check the post on MSE if you want to know how. It's been figured out.
@DJMcMayhem You can't get a clue.
You don't need a clue.

@NewSandboxedPosts that seems like a lot of fun to me
Endless Screaming is also interesting
I haven't gotten that yet
Twitter account of Endless Screaming: twitter.com/…
How quaint
I'll check back in a few years, see if it's truely endless
15:16
@KritixiLithos CMC: Scream, saying 1 to m A's and 1 to n H's, both real amounts being randomly chosen.
With a program, of course.
Question: If you have f(x) = P(x)/Q(x) where P and Q are polynomials, how would you find the recurrence relation for the series it generates?
15:41
All I can find is how to get a generating function for a linear recurrence relation
@KritixiLithos I really hope "Endless Screaming" is a bot...
2
@LegionMammal978 I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, can you give an example?
@PhiNotPi For instance, for the generating function F(x) = 1/(-x^2 - x + 1), one should get a_n = a_(n-1) + a_(n-2) (Fibonacci numbers)
Of course, it's trivial if P(x) = 1
What happens when P(x) = x^2 or something?
In mathematics, a constant-recursive sequence or C-finite sequence is a sequence satisfying a linear recurrence with constant coefficients. == Definition == An order-d homogeneous linear recurrence with constant coefficients is an equation of the form s ( n ) = c 1 s ( n − 1 ) + c 2 s ( n − 2 ) + ⋯ ...
16:00
I have a feeling that the PPCG community has lately been less active...
Well, it is that time of the year.
@LegionMammal978 From what I can tell, the numerator only deals with the initial values of the sequence, with the denominator determining the actual recurrence relation.
@Dennis Yeah, maybe that's why I haven't got >50 hats yet... my tip of advice to everyone is please ask questions. Those questions, if they are of good quality, bring more activity to the site.
We had 8 well-received question in the past 24 hours. I think we're fine.
16:08
What defines a well-received question?
Hmm... 8 seems like a really small (can't stress that enough) number, at least to me. Of course, for a mod, that's already too much, because of the workload of being a mod.
@KritixiLithos Positively received, i.e. not closed/locked/deleted/downvoted/negatively commented, etc.
I think there's a hat for something like that
If I get one more hat I get a hat for having 11 hats
You can never have 11 hats!
@KritixiLithos I've only found Polymath, which is for posting a well-received answer on 3 different non-SO sites.
Try meta.
16:16
Meta what?
Wait, it doesn't depend whether the question is positively received.
@EriktheOutgolfer 8 well-received questions in a day is great for PPCG. Especially during the holiday season, when fewer people are on.
Yeah, but I'm into a very specific subset of questions, you probably can't feel my pain...
It's XMas-eve / XMas rn :p. People are busy
or other holidays too
@redstarcoder Not for me.
Eastern Orthodox Christmas is January 7th.
16:26
@zyabin101 then you should post some awesome questions!
Ooh
I didn't know that
converts to Eastern Orthodox just to have a second Christmas
I think you basically just have to argue that you now follow the Julian calendar for holidays
@PhiNotPi I feel like the Orthodox and Catholics might excommunicate you for flipping back and forth every year just to have double the Christmases. :P
@El'endiaStarman My next challenge will be getting double the Hanukkahs.
@PhiNotPi I await your shattering breakthrough in cloning.
16:38
Well, I think there is a Hanukkah menorah challenge already though, so Hanukkah is out. Xmas has been overly done, but there remains a challenge for E. Orthodox Xmas. For Catholics I dunno :D
@El'endiaStarman my solution: a corpus callosotomy
Nah, one Christmas is enough
War ensues over: WHICH?
@PhiNotPi ......I'm not sure if that counts or not.

@mınxomaτ honestly I think this is crazier en.wikipedia.org/wiki/…

@DJMcMayhem congrats!

16:52
I am me, Erik the Outgolfer!!! Please do not misunderstand me for someone else...
@DJMcMayhem The cat has eaten the bird
@KritixiLithos lol
It's a strange feeling cause Alex was the first person I ever met on this site
Do you mean in chat or in main?
I'm chat, but interacting with people on main isn't as casual so it doesn't feel like meeting people per se
iirc I met conor in chat first and zgarb, xnor, and nicael all about the same time on main but ^ not sure that counts
17:02
For me it was Alex and our resident downvoter
@DJMcMayhem Geobits?
iirc I also met the knob and alex around the same time
the knob used to be a lot more active in chat
I met knob with my Sock, and my sock got kicked several times from stealth-pinging
And I met lots of other people while spamming carets/carrots
You can see a list of some of the people here: i.sstatic.net/QV5vM.png
Notice all of the starred messages are within 9 minutes. In those days, I used to run out of stars frequently
@DJMcMayhem nice
@DJMcMayhem mobile chatting from the beginning lol
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ ? I don't think so
How would you tell?
I normally tell when people capitalize only the first letter of the message, regardless of other sentencees
17:15
I didn't do that though
yeah, just noticed that, was wrong
I didn't chat very often until I realized how great mobile chatting is
Know I chat all the time regardless of where I am or if I'm busy or not
You're always watching .. just like Santa ...
Exactly. :)
I KNEW IT
17:20
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ I actually deliberately capitalize the first letter when replying to a message from mobile because that annoys me so much.
Your keyboard doesn't auto-capitalize? Mine does
Well, it does, but only at the very beginning of a message or after a period. Thing is, when you reply to a message, it inserts a number and then a space...
@El'endiaStarman test
Oh shoot, you're right
capitalization is a terrible way to tell if I'm on mobile
I never would have noticed, but now that'll drive me crazy
17:22
just look for typos
@DJMcMayhem Heh heh sorry? :P
I think for me, a good rule of thumb is that if I'm on chat, I'm probably on mobile.
Probably around %90 of the time
You can tell I'm on mo ile if Inconfuse the bottom row keys with thevspace ar.
@El'endiaStarman yeah, I sometimes do
