@MetaEd yes
@betseg I got my first timeshare login that year.
Editors weren't even a gleam in my eye then. All I knew was the BASIC interpreter.
Finally, someone significantly older than me in here. Here, have my bag of "get off my lawn" jokes.
in English Language & Usage, Oct 26 at 20:37, by MetaEd
@Mitch Get on my lawn.
Thanks, I'll add them to my collection.
@MetaEd No, it's 6. VI :P
Ha ha ha
21:05
@mbomb007 Do I have to work out what that is in radix-50?
if you are defining a square with two points, one of them is called the "Origin", the other is called ____?
Steam! /badjk
@NathanMerrill The backdoorigin
@NathanMerrill The opposite corner? I've never heard of a specific name for it.
The catty corner.
21:06
I'm definitely calling it the "backdoorigin" from now on.
The anti-origin
The !origin
opposite sounds fine, I guess
@NathanMerrill I like hypotenoid
Yay, I'm the helpful one. :P
@MetaEd It'd be kitty corner. Catty is used for catty wompus, which is a separate term.
21:09
Catty cornered is definitely a thing
@mbomb007 My guess is it's regional. I grew up with catty corner.
It's also the first Google autosuggestion for catty for me.
I don't think I've ever heard either term.
@MetaEd Yeah, searching reveals that both come from the Middle English catre-corner
meaning, "four-cornered"
Idk how cats got into it
21:13
@mbomb007 Cats get into everything.
Looks more like it's related to "quatro". They're similar enough in sound to have a common ancestor.
@MetaEd According to Merriam-Webster, kitty is the normal one, and catty is a variant. merriam-webster.com/dictionary/catty%E2%80%93corner
hey, if you were defining "bounds" for a square to go from (0,0) to (4,4) should they both be inclusive?
Cat = quatro, cats have four legs, 4 - 1 = 3, a triangle has 3 sides, cats are illuminati confirmed mind = cat
aka, is (3,4) in bounds?
Hi Des!
I had an idea for a koth
melee spaceships
main issue right now is that I don't know how to physics engine
Do you have portal two?
21:29
physics engines are mostly geared towards graphics. Simple collision isn't really that tough
Iff the ship is a rectangle
I mean, they did it in Asteroids
Otherwise collision handling get harder
true, but do you really want a KoTH where shapes matter?
I can't believe it's been more than 13 years since I worked Project Euler problems. Is that even possible?
21:30
then submissions have to do the calculations as well if they want to perform well
seriously, I would like it if someone who had portal two played my level
I only have Portal one ;_;
@Sp3000 It is I, the king of Animated Esports Sign
@undergroundmonorail What is this sorcery
How do you have done this
I mean it's three different solutions :P
21:32
Ah
@undergroundmonorail that looks like a zachtronics game
@NathanMerrill shenzhen i/o, by zachtronics
Y5 production cost I'm actually really proud of, it took a lot of thinking. 92 power isn't too hard but getting it to 91 power requires a clever trick that I didn't come up with by myself, so I can't take too much credit for that. The 2 lines of code solution is just silly.
My best is ¥10, 159 power and 6 LoC :/
Getting from ¥10 to ¥6 was the part that I thought was really clever, getting from ¥6 to ¥5 is just good old fashioned golfing
Most of my solutions are pretty bad, but I have mastered Animated Esports Sign :P
i need more steam friends with shenzhen i/o so i can know if i'm really bad or sp3000 is just really good
or both
I sent (goddammit preterit) you a friend invite (TheKsp25)
TODO: get shenzhen i/o
;_;
@undergroundmonorail What puzzle?
deep sea sensor grid
Ahk
I don't have unlocked it yet
Yay I did fake camera in 128K power
new goal: MAXIMUM POWER
21:46
I can't ping martin
can the rest of you?
this isn't me but
@NathanMerrill Nope
@undergroundmonorail HOW
i don't know
you can only fit a single MC4000 on either side of the divide
huh, his profile says his last message was 4 days ago
he must be busy
i guess just huge busy loops
21:48
  mov 999 acc
a:teq acc -999
- sub 1
- nop
- nop
- nop
- nop
- jmp a
  gen p0 6 6
^ code of my top MC4000
I don't see how to max powah more
my first thought is to try and nest a loop in there but i don't know how you would make that work
because the value you're testing against would still affect the outer loop
Yeah we only have 1 accumulator
(And not enough place to hack a second with the pins)
oh oh i have an idea, give me a second
oh yeah this is sucking up a lot of power, these test runs are taking forever
do you want to know the trick
Yes, I'm totally stuck to maximize the power :/
replace every nop with gen p0 0 0
it costs the same power as mov 100 p0; slp 0; mov 0 p0; slp 0
Woah
That's neat
And evil
> A political group is deploying puppies to polling stations in five states to drive voter turnout
genius
the problem is getting people to leave the puppies to actually vote
off-by-one on remote kill switch
._.
i'm saving power on this one solution by
22:06
bot arena 3 has the grooviest music ever
taking this one slp instruction, increasing the argument by one, and then running it again to see if it still completes the verification
it started as slp 1 and it's up to slp 8
slp 9 is the best i can do
On what?
pocket i ching oracle
Ahk
My solution bork at slp 2 :/
when the button gets pressed, you can assume it won't be pressed again for up to 9 time units and still pass verification
22:09
You're gong to enjoy this=)
@HelkaHomba Yeah, cats are historically oppressive of birds
@AlexA. ;_; @EasterlyIrk y u do dis
EasterlyIrk is cat
Oh right
22:25
Hello @AlexA.!
How do you do?
I do swiftly and mercilessly. How do you do?
@El'endiaStarman Can you check if the benchmark still works? I've added some sanity checks.
@AlexA. Sorry for your partner.
@AlexA. I do sweet and chocolatey.
@flawr Envy yours.
22:27
@AlexA. Still a lot to do?
@AlexA. You are alive?
Hey @Downgoat, do you know about Crayon?
@flawr Always :/
No we are talking to a ghost.
@TuxCopter Nope
22:28
Ah ok
@AlexA. Omg, we are soon at message 33333333!
If I'm not mistaken, it's not contiguous over a single chat room, it's over the entire chat.se network
Yes I know
Oh okay
22:29
That means it is going to happen even sooner=)
Approximately 10158 messages to go
That makes it even more arbitrary...
@ETHproductions Please nobody take this as a challenge.
Hey @trichoplax, how do you pronounce "trichoplax"? I say it like TRIKE-oh-placks.
@flawr Yeah, no. Don't go posting messages just for the sake of increasing the counter :P
22:30
@ETHproductions it's your esolang, right?
@Downgoat Yeah
@AlexA. I've always said "trick oh placks" but I haven't known the word for much longer than it's been my username, and I've never checked. Will find out now...
Another speaker of British English that I know also pronounces it that way
i didn't know it was a word
22:32
@Downgoat I'm having trouble uploading the new docs (powered by HTML and StrapdownJS), do you think you could take a look?
@AlexA. /ˈt͜ʃɹaɪ.koʊ.plæks/
t͜ʃ really?
Trichoplax adhaerens is the only extant representative of phylum Placozoa, which is a basal group of multicellular animals (metazoa). Trichoplax are very flat organisms around a millimetre in diameter, lacking any organs or internal structures. They have two cellular layers: the top epitheloid layer is made of ciliated "cover cells" flattened toward the outside of the organism, and the bottom layer is made up of cylinder cells that possess cilia used in locomotion, and gland cells that lack cilia. Between these layers is the fibre syncytium, a liquid-filled cavity strutted open by star-like fibres...
Like the "ch" in "cheese"?
@Doorknob I don't speak IPA; I only drink IPAs.
22:33
@ETHproductions sure, link?
@LuisMendo English <tr> is usually pronounced /t͜ʃɹ/.
@AlexA. You speak IPA by definition. You don't read it :-P
#alcoholism #drinkingaloneonafridaynight
(also joking ^)
@LuisMendo Good point :P
Nothing shows up on Firefox or Chrome for me
Even though it works locally
Questoin: what is best way to run various applciation depending on where request is made? e.g. example.com/goat runs foo.js but example.com/sheep runs bar.js. I know i could reroute example.com/goat to like localhost:3001 and example.com/sheep to localhost:3002 but surely there is better way
22:36
That reminds me: @Doorknob, you may be pleased to know that I've finally switched to a "better" browser. I now use Firefox as my primary browser.
@AlexA. trichoplax have no mouths, so you can't ask them how to pronounce their name, but they also have no ears, so they won't know if you say it wrong
4
And that's why they communicate through the Internet
@ETHproductions btw you can name the branch master and set master as your gh-pages branch
also, do have build-script?
@Downgoat O_O wut
@AlexA. WHAT
22:38
@Downgoat No, I do everything manually
I suck at git
@ETHproductions Don't believe everything you read on the internet. I'm not actually a trichoplax :P
@AlexA. Yay
@ETHproductions do you use windows or linux or mac?
@trichoplax Why should we believe that then? ;P
@Downgoat windows 7
22:39
ah ok
@quartata Yeah. Idk, the newest Safari release just wasn't doing it for me.
@Downgoat Is that a problem?
@AlexA. But Firefox?
Really?
I use Firefox too. Can I still chat?
@ETHproductions kinda, windows doesn't have make utility. Do you have Cygwin installed?
hm, I guess you could setup travis to do the builds
22:40
@AlexA. You should get Pentadactyl! (take this message about 15% seriously)
Firefox is the only good browser
@TuxCopter ಠ_ಠ
Jan 17 at 5:27, by phase
@GamrCorps I use firefox when I want to listen to music and actually want RAM left.
Safari browser is best browser
Konqueror or riot
22:40
Why I don't use Chrome ^^
@Downgoat Wait what? Why do I need builds?
@Downgoat wtf
@Downgoat That's just wrong.
@AlexA. oh Hai! O/
22:40
Yo
safari dev tools > * dev tools
firefox is slow and clunky
gtg, sorry
Long time no see
firebug > *
@Downgoat wtf
22:41
At this rate, I'm gonna pass you in rep soon. :P
@quartata Once there was a website broken in both Firefox and Chromium, so I was forced to use qutebrowser cause it was the only other one I had and I didn't want to download another browser over mobile data. It actually worked :D
@Downgoat wat
@Doorknob I actually haven't heard of that one
firefox is kinda like IE
@Downgoat ಠ_ಠ
22:42
And the last time I used Konqueror was KDE 3
At least, FF supports CSS3 and HTML5
I still find myself typing gg:<search> sometimes though
@IE huh?
I do not need "Firefoxbug Friends Debugger Extensions++™"
@Downgoat You have officially lost your mind
22:42
@quartata It's a browser with built-in vim-like keybinds, kinda like Pentadactyl. I'd heard about it from somewhere and installed it to try it out, but never uninstalled it. :P
@Downgoat wat
Firebug is lightweight and it works
hahahahaha
@Downgoat Except that Firefox actually supports modern web technologies. IE always has to be special-cased in browser code.
firebug is slow
22:43
ಠ_ಠ
@AlexA. yeah but i can't use -webkit- features
Downgoat, what was in the tin can you ate most recently? D:
i tried using firefox for a week and i didn't like it
@Downgoat Yeah. That's because you're not supposed to use them; they won't work in anything that isn't webkit
@TuxCopter You just posted the 33323333rd message
22:43
only button i need is back button
When I'm using a web browser, I'm not giving a great deal of thought to which browser it is.
REALLY
The good news is that they all exist as -moz
22:44
@Downgoat Just use backspace
@quartata uhh no?
http://chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/33323333#33323333
@Downgoat This is what's to the right
@Downgoat left of the URL bar
LIke 99% of websites these days use prefixed properties
22:44
@Downgoat You can quite easily configure the panel to remove all of those icons you don't want
@TuxCopter I know back button exist but i dont need all weird firefox stuff
Firefox is good, Chrome is okay, IE is a joke
i just need to view TNB and SO
@Downgoat It's not weird stuff
> Click the Hello button to browse Web pages with a friend.
pls look me in the eye and tell me how this is not weird
Yeah, this is weird
Usually browsers share experimental CSS properties though. That's why you use -webkit and -moz
If you use only -webkit you are literally cutting out about half of the Internet
also. it seems to have seperated URL and search bar
TFW you realize you're the one that reignited the browser holy war
22:45
@Downgoat Yep
@AlexA. At least we know who to blame :P
So today my company's parent company (who we still do work for) got hit with some nasty ransom-ware. They basically lost all of their data and have to pay a bunch of bit coins to get it back. 0_0
@TuxCopter Yeah let's not start that again...
my web browser is wget and a text editor
22:46
@DrMcMoylex O_O
@TuxCopter this is primarially deal breaker
@DrMcMoylex ;________; that sucks big time
@DrMcMoylex Notify the FBI cybercrime people?
maybe ask sec.se people if alternative
22:47
@Downgoat You can type searches straight into the URL bar if you prefer - both work
@Downgoat doesn't affect us at all
@Downgoat No that's a very bad idea
@trichoplax huh really?
@DrMcMoylex oh
I thhought you said "your parent's company" >_____________>
@Downgoat Yep
but if you write hello.world it will try to go to the site hello.world, not search for hello.world
22:48
@DrMcMoylex nomoreransom.org
@Downgoat Oh, no no, that would be awful
@Downgoat Yes. You can also remove the search bar to give a much longer URL bar
It's very customisable
@DrMcMoylex I heard about companies which calculated that it's cheaper to pay in case of a ransom-ware infection instead of investing in a decent back-up strategy.
I also dont like firefox UI in general
ಠ_ಠ
22:49
@Laikoni Those people are very dumb
There is almost 0 guarantee that you'll get an decryption key
@Downgoat I'd actually be less concerned if someone's parents' company didn't have adequate backups, than a company big enough to be a parent company...
@Downgoat It's pretty much the same as every other web browser UI?
Maybe there's something I'm missing
And if you get the encryption key it's most of the time useless because it's probably encrypted with assymetric cipher :P
can I insert spacer into toolbar?
so like search bar isn't like the entire window length
@Downgoat Probably
22:50
@TuxCopter stop picking on my typo capabilities
One time I saw a defcon talk where they tore apart ransomware to see how it worked, and one of them had a bug that makes it throw away the encryption key
or something like that
so not even the person who wrote it can give you back access to your files
From what I heard they're not going to pay it, they're just gonna re install windows and roll with it
@DrMcMoylex Some of the ransomware is already cracked, so it's worth them searching for solutions online before paying a ransom
Also Firefoxes animations aren't very smooth. (e.g. loading circle, tab open, etc.)
22:52
i.e. FF is bloat and slow
at least fror me
idk
This is true
safari is very fast
This is not true
What kind of 20-years old computer do you have
Honestly though who cares what browser someone uses as long as it's Chrome
2
22:53
@quartata You typo'd Firefox
@TuxCopter this one:
Why do you have a Macbook ಠ_ಠ
because unlike windows, I can run make :P
@quartata I actually have had no issues with speed on Safari. It's always been quite fast for me.
I've been toying around with opera for a while, but I think I'm going back to chrome
22:54
@Downgoat make work fine with Win
i think 99% of people who shit on safari have never use safari in last 5 years
@DrMcMoylex I thought Opera died 20 years ago
@TuxCopter yeah with kuldge on top of kludge on top of kludge
and then sometime still bork
@Downgoat Probably true. It's actually fairly nice.
I actually still use Opera on certain machines.
Chrome has no PowerPC version
22:54
@AlexA. Apparently not
I'm talking the old school Opera not this new shit that's basically just Chromium
Midori?
JS support is bad.
At least last I checked
Who needs browsers anyway. Just curl everything.
My friends swears Opera is the greatest browser ever, so I tried it out to humor him. Overall it's not that bad, but there are some minor annoyances
22:55
Don't tell him it's just Chrome nowadays
@AlexA. Just call the server admin and let them fax you the website content
6
The next generation of browser technology
@mınxomaτ A good solution, but the js support is terrible
Who needs JS anyway
Yeah, HTML + CSS is already TC
