@LeakyNun Maybe it's from pronouncing "sh-bang" as "shuh-bahng", so the uh became an e.
@gcampbell my current theory is that "hashbang" sounded similar to "shebang" so it got replaced
@NewSandboxedPosts [YANI] make challenges called "Server Fault" and "Super User".
ohai @RenderSettings
You weren't there for, like! 9 days!
i was busy :(
"Super Fault" and "Server User"
5:10 PM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ superfault.com: for the best faults on the Internet. serveruser.com: for users of servers.
^^ c'mon, starships, do it
> We’re about to sell Urbit address space to the public for the first time.
@Bálint This is basically a subset of Programmers SE

@RenderSettings so where is that aura reference? >_>
Wow, XX document is so... descriptive.
lambda x,y:x**y**x
@RenderSettings That only lists the auras.
I need their descriptions.
Yeah? What was your question
it has the descriptions; they aren't strictly enforced, either
It's only for typechecking and pretty-printing

@LeakyNun Jelly?
@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 nope.
I'd say labyrinth if not for the ^n
5:26 PM
Jelly doesn't have ? >_>

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ nope

They addressed /docs/urbit.org instead of urbit.org XD
@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 Hm, where? The repo is at github.com/urbit/docs if you want to pull request

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 I think he understands that.
@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 he's fluent in J
I looked at an answer on stackoverflow, and on the right side, this question popped up:
Q: Why have a legal/ justice system? Let karma take care of things?

Donald EdwardsWe all know people who are living immoral lives committing crimes but getting away by bending the law towards their side due to wealth and influence. When ever I see or hear something like this I keep telling my self that karma will get them even though the legal system cannot. But then again I k...

that's the hot questions, from across SE
Before I say anything, are there any buddhists here?
5:34 PM
I'm not going to say anything against buddhism, but I'd make sure
@RenderSettings Yes.
If you have to ask...
@Bálint Chinese but not buddhist
But I don't know where the footer is.
Then I guess, no
5:34 PM
@Bálint If it's offensive, don't say anything.
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ It's not going to be, it will be an opinion-based thing
@LeakyNun Is it used monadically or dyadically?
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ dyad
@Bálint but I don't care anyway
@Bálint Then you can say it.
As an atheist, I obviously find this kind of dumb, but if I would be a buddhist, I don't think I would let karma take care of things like that.
5:36 PM
Look, I speak against christianity even if christians are here
gee, thanks
Damn, assembler is annoying af. It doesn't seem to comprehend that I could possibly want to send an 8-bit value to a 16-bit port address
@Bálint why not?
Warning: 980 shortened to 212 gee thanks
@LeakyNun ....
5:37 PM
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ good morning
I don't mind anything said here as long as state it as an opinion.
@LeakyNun ?
@LeakyNun We don't put people in jail, to punish them (mainly), we put them in jail to separate them from "normal" people
>_> I say ? a lot.
@quartata Which program?
5:39 PM
>_> try googling first.
An assembly (or assembler) language, often abbreviated asm, is a low-level programming language for a computer, or other programmable device, in which there is a very strong (generally one-to-one) correspondence between the language and the architecture's machine code instructions. Each assembly language is specific to a particular computer architecture, in contrast to most high-level programming languages, which are generally portable across multiple architectures, but require interpreting or compiling. Assembly language may also be called symbolic machine code. Assembly language is converted...
Under normal, I mean non-murderer and non-thief ones
Random question of the day: Anybody here know how to cook a good casserole?
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ The internet
@Zizouz212 Do you still have space in your house? :P
@Bálint gthx

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ <_<
@LeakyNun What do you mean?
5:41 PM
nah, what about pink??? hmmm
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ If I needed a concrete example that J is a write-only language...
spray paint it carefully
@Bálint well, then which ones satisfy your statement?
@RenderSettings ? I'm just destructuring it carefully. It's a fun exericse I take.
5:42 PM
@Bálint "We don't put people in jail to punish them" ... you must not be from the U.S.
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ can be simplified further...
I know
I'm working on it
@TimmyD mainly, yes, one of the reason is to punish them, but the main one is to separate them from other people
@LeakyNun murderers, thiefs, etc.
5:42 PM
@TimmyD he was trying to imply that we just simply put it for no reason at all
@Bálint I mean, which one are put in jail not for punishment?
Quick random poll: any anarchist here?
@Bálint That reasoning makes very little sense for many crimes. How does separating a tax cheat from other people make any difference?
location is "Why do you even bother?" Well, darn.
@LeakyNun s/t /ts /
5:44 PM
Q: "Any" followed by singular or plural countable nouns?

Andy ChengThis question has troubled me for ages despite my several attempts of looking it up in dictionaries or usage books. Do we say, "Do you have any ideas" or "Do you have any idea"? I do see an example where "any" means "it doesn't matter who/which/what", therefore "You can borrow any book you like."...

Your phrasing made me think it was short for "Are there any anarchists here?", not "Choose any anarchist here".
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ So ... perl.
@Geobits well, i was wrong lol
Any anarchists here?
Okay, so I'm left with */ (*/ (x # y)) # x
5:47 PM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ nice, continue
@Geobits He did something bad against the community->separate him from the community, if we don't jail tax cheaters, they do it again.
@TimmyD yes
@LeakyNun not afair
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ nice
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ ikr.
@Bálint So you're saying it's preventative, or rehabilitative, but neither of those is dependent on separation. You could have any number of other "incentives".
5:49 PM
dyadic # is "take"; letting each member K of x being the amount of elements to take from y. We're getting the reduced multiplication over this list, and selecting each element of x that many times, again reducing over multiplication
But why did you want to say not a fair? :P
@Bálint I believe both explanation are right. Jail is both used for punishment and separation
in particular, punishment by separation
@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 Do you have to reply with mostly nonsensical comments to messages?
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ ...
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ ... which is equivalent to?
5:50 PM
@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 No seriously, it's really annoying.
Let's take this for example: In some scandinavian countries, the jails are literal hotel rooms, with a computer and a nice bed
Especially when I reply with "..." to mean disapproval, and you just reply with "..." back for no reason.
@Bálint brb getting arrested in finland
@LeakyNun I don't know of any further reduction, or, at least, none comes to mind.
Why doesn't it onebox?
5:51 PM
@Bálint are you sure that isn't a college dorm
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ reduced multiplication... is equivalent to... what?
product, yeah
@Bálint either use the upload -> from url or append ! to the beginning
i.e. https://qph.is.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-e833496f39944403cb6f9199532773cc
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ 2*2*2*2*2 = ?
also, remove the extra ?....
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ wait, seriously, you can just use !url?
@LeakyNun ................................................................... oh
@RenderSettings only for some images
5:52 PM
I was thinking with lists, not numbers :P
+1 for obfuscation
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ not original xd

5:55 PM
Fun fact: A local mass-murderer (who killed 60 people, and hurt 10 more) was imprisoned in a scandinavian jail. Months later, he said, that his living conditions are terrible, because he must drink his coffe from a plastic glass.
|*((pair) :(pow p q p))
@RenderSettings brachylog?
5:57 PM
@LeakyNun Hoon.
Nope, Hoon
@RenderSettings ninja'd
5:58 PM
@Bálint To be fair, forcing someone to drink coffee should be considered "cruel and unusual" punishment ...
... and a waste of coffee
@TimmyD Are you on the tea side?
Hoon is neat; it searches for symbols in the subject. But the arguments of the function are also in the subject, so you can have the sample be (pair) which is {p/* q/*} and then have p or q resolve in your body without actually defining them anywhere :p
@Bálint I'm on the "neither" side ... I strongly dislike hot beverages.
Wow that page has terribly annoying ads/crap.
5:59 PM
@TimmyD .-.
I don't even really like soup or most chili
@LeakyNun Nooo, that's an old old fork of the repo from like two years ago. github.com/urbit/docs or urbit.org pls
