Wait, I shouldn't celebrate that; I have an account there.
The Language Learning proposal is about to go into private beta too
woot
What I'm wondering is why it hasn't been closed yet
@Downgoat screw that, why hasn't lifehacks been closed yet
02:01
Speaking of A51 proposals... continues plugging la jbobauti'i
Speaking of A51 proposals, my Tatar language proposal got deleted because there were too few example questions. ;-;
@Quill 2.1 isn't that bad
0 is just... wow...
I don't think he meant because of qpd...
yeah, there's more to screw up than qpd
everything else is excelent ...
(except my spelling of course)
02:03
Not stat-wise. Generally-terrible-site-wise.
what's so bad about lifehacks?
I tried participating on lifehacks when it first came up. It has a lot of problems that I don't think can really be solved.
it has 100% answered...
@Downgoat I have always thought and always will think that Lifehacks is a terrible idea as a SE Q&A site
7
There's not even a good definition of life hacks imo.

Arbitrary Area 51 comment of the day: I highly doubt Lifehacks will succeed. They're going to have to basically nuke the Too Broad close option, and it'd probably just devolve into a forum-like collection of "tips and tricks."
26 secs ago, by Downgoat
ok
@Geobits I had a question closed and I tried to trace back the reason, there wasn't a close reason that was valid, turns out they closed my question because it attracted low quality answers
hahaha
Punctuation matters
02:11
@ZachGates well it'sreally a "For " that is missing.
@Downgoat Or "Rachael Ray finds inspiration in cooking, her family, and her dog"
Yeah, cooking for her family and her dog would be a little creepy
02:15
^
I just found a friend of mine from community college on Stack Overflow.
Or "Rachael Ray finds inspiration in cooking (her family and) her dog."
Or maybe the sentence is exactly how it's meant to be and people are just assuming it's wrong.
Has anyone looked for Rachael Ray's family and dog recently?
02:16
._.
Technically she is part of her family >_>

@AlexA. nice!
@tac Do you use Vim at all?
02:22
@Downgoat Unfortunately, that isn't a real magazine cover :(
@AlexA. yes
@EasterlyIrk Nice! I'm still getting used to it but I like it.
@Downgoat uses it I know.
I had been using Atom but I've found that I actually prefer Vim.
He was editing avocadOS with it.
I still kinda like textwrangler better.
02:23
I haven't used TextWrangler but I've heard good things.
^^^^
vim is the best
except that I can't figure out how to go to the beginning of a line...
tac
tac
@AlexA. I almost tried to learn it once, but I sorta gave up because I like Atom too much. If I had to switch to a text-mode line editor, it'd probably be Emacs just because of Elisp.
Atom is like VSC. Made to look "nice" but the performance is absolute garbage.
02:24
@mınxomaτ What's VSC?
@AlexA. An Atom clone from MS.
tac
tac
@mınxomaτ :c
Oh gross, why would they do that?
Let me guess: Atom runs basically on pared down Chromium, so VSC runs on IE. Yeah?
@AlexA. I installed your vim plugin but it errors for me:
Error detected while processing function InsertLicense:
line   21:
No matching license found for `abbr`
Press ENTER or type command to continue
@AlexA. What, no. VSC is not made for Windows.
02:26
@Downgoat Probably because there's no license called abbr?
@Downgoat The docs say something along the lines of "where abbr refers to the license abbreviation"
oh :|
:D it workes
\o/
(s/e//)
> Do What The Fuck You Want To Public License
._.
02:27
Are you not familiar with that license? It's pretty popular. That's what the NERDTree plugin is licensed under.
tac
tac
@AlexA. Actually, Atom uses electron.atom.io
@tac Yeah, Electron uses Chromium
@Downgoat It's a rude version of the unlicense.

@tac overwriting undefined is bad as it can lead to undefined beahvior
@AlexA. typeof JavaScript //=> "garbage" :P
> typeof JavaScript
< "undefined"
tac
tac
@Downgoat :P
@Doorknob I wondered for a while what kind of operator "//=>" could be. I should go to sleep ._.
02:35
@mınxomaτ int i = 10; while (i --> 0) { printf("%d\n", i); }

wtf JavaScript
@Doorknob the arrow operator! :P
@Doorknob Actually, the "goes to" operator ;-)
tac
tac
typeof null // -> "object"
typeof undefined // -> undefined
Which, btw., is valid JS, but Atom's JS highlighting breaks when you type x --> instead of x-- > ಠ_ಠ
02:36
@Downgoat That's...just sad. Last activity was yesterday and the last activity before that was 12 days ago.
tac
tac
@mınxomaτ it's that package's highlighting. Atom itself can't highlight junk
@tac Install atom, open JS file in atom, basic highlighting breaks at -->, uninstall atom.
Install atom, realize you should be using vim, uninstall atom, use vim

Great, can't we just call for a vote if anyone is against keeping the current set of mods?
I like the concept of Atom, which feels very similar to the concept of Arch. However, they both deal with the same problems of package bugs and cross package incompatibility

@Downgoat well, I'd vote for you, but the current mods are pretty great

@tac that is true, I'd be voting for the current mods
Four slots, but three picks per person.
I'll be voting for anybody that didn't change their name

@NathanMerrill The active ones

@Downgoat you changed your name
I'd hardly call @HelkaHomba inactive
Helka isn't a mod.
@NathanMerrill He also isn't a mod...
Oh ninja
He has a blue face, not a blue name.
02:49
Who changed their name? Besides Manna Thriller of course.
oh, I totally thought he was a mod
well, you aren't getting my vote anyways
Wait, really?
yeah, I did
Huh. Okay ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
02:50
@NathanMerrill Not the first time that's happened
well, you are a pillar of the community
Wait, so Doorknob won't be getting a vote? He used to be something else a long time ago.
@AlexA. A few low-quality contributors on C.SE have thought that basically all high-rep users were mods. :P
And has changed it a couple times for winter.
@quartata well for like a day...
02:51
@El'endiaStarman haha well, they at least have some mod privileges...

> Display name may only be changed once every 30 days; you may change again in 8 days
Huh. Weird :P
@HelkaHomba I do like poking fun at you and your name change, but I hope you don't take it seriously
@tac ask a mod to change your name, they can do it whenever they want
@Geobits If your parent site was still PPCG, you'd be stuck as "I Go Best." :P
02:52
@AlexA. That they do, but it was still amusing to see them say "A mod closed my question!" when it was 5 normal users... :P
tac
tac
@Downgoat I can wait 8 days :P
From Vihan to Downgoat to several anagrams of Downgoat to Vihan then back to Downgoat
@quartata don't forget the small caps
Ah, right. And the two avatar changes.
02:53
avatar change?
@Downgoat Caveat: mod must be a mod on the desired parent site. Though I probably could change your name in chat...
I don't remember changing my avatar
^, but s/my/his/
@El'endiaStarman no, if he has a Christianity account you can change it there and make it apply network-wide
@Doorknob the powers

@Downgoat Were you not originally Vihan with some purplish avatar?
I don't have Christianity account yet
@Doorknob Yeah, just found that out myself.
@Downgoat You used to have as a downvote-form of Digital Trauma's
@quartata I became a ghost for haloween
I think I had a different avatar before that
02:55
next up: Mods can create accounts for SE users
@NinjaBearMonkey -> Okra yen Benjamin
@AlexA. Parent site? I'm not sure what you mean.
now, all of those mods on the inactive Beer site can change everybody's name :)
@NathanMerrill Now that would be pretty open to abuse... :P

@Doorknob I really enjoy that
03:00
@AlexA. actually, if you consider chat cross-site, then you have flagging powers
just thought of that
Chat diamond is based upon chat network. We're blue on chat.SE, but not chat.meta.SE nor chat.SO.
(Exception: SO diamond applies for both chat.SO and chat.SE, because TL.)
right, but you all get notifications of flags (and I assume, you can all resolve the flags)
how do you can a diamong on chat,emta.se
Be a SE employee
how do yo be an se empolee
03:02
@NathanMerrill Yes. And all the other mod powers (freezing/deleting a room, chat suspensions, etc. etc.)
@Downgoat Type better
@AlexA. blame hooves >_>
so, chat room powers are cross site, name changing is cross site

...anything else?
Yes.
Mods get spiffy blueness and diamonds after their names.
I WANT THEM

03:03
@NathanMerrill Mods get a mod hat which they can wear on which ever SE site they visit
They do get an RL mod hat.
But I don't think hats should be your motivator for running
Unless the hat was made of gold or something.
Can confirm, wearing hat made of gold
well, I can sell a hat on ebay. I can't sell my fake internet points
actually, I could sell a guaranteed bounty
that's probably against the TOS

maybe? I doubt they really considered it to be a problem

Actually I think that's semi-official
Quasi-official...?
how do I make it go to a certain question
@MamaFunRoll Didn't you say that yesterday?
@Downgoat you can't

meta.codegolf.stackexchange.com/q/8474/9498 is too long to fit into my nomination post
I did this in my Stack Overflow nomination for space purposes :P
@Downgoat Did I? Whelp I forgot :P
> Could you change the link to just be something like meta.codegolf.stackexchange.com/q/8474/9498? I feel uncomfortable clicking links on url shorteners.
people think I'm going to be rickrolling them with goo.gl links I guess
Dangit someone delete the DUP onebox I just posted!

@ZachGates The challenge is set :p

@MyHamDJ The default config file is meant to be changed
I could never get the hang of those
@Doorknob True, but my linux installs don't last super long, so I'm constantly redoing it.
I tend to break my installs really often.
03:45
Reward: 5USD for the best Ceci n'est pas une page
@MyHamDJ That's why you should have a dotfiles repo :P
When you say "dotfiles" you mean /.i3/config, .vimrc, .bashrc etc.?
Why do you have nnoreamp gj j?
Because j is mapped to gj :P
03:49
But what's the point?
gj respects line wrapping. I find it annoying that the default behavior of j is to go down to the next line disregarding soft line wraps
@Doorknob THIS BOTHERS ME SO MUCH HOW DOES FIX

That's always bugged me too, but I didn't realize you could fix it!
