@MartinBüttner That should be easy enough to implement. I just have to go through the languages to search for debugging features...
@ETHproductions thanks for spotting those spare brackets
@Dennis for my languages it's just a matter of using -d

Q: Calculate the day number of the year

DenkerAffeSeems like we do not have this one yet, so here we go: The Challenge Write a program or function that takes a date as input and outputs the day number of the year. You may not use any builtins for that! Rules As usual you may write a full program or a function. The format of the input is up ...

Today I rep capped and passed both grc and aditsu in rep. :O
@AlexA. whoa
22:13
Right?
It's crazy
@mınxomaτ Once everyone's confirmed. Still waiting for a few more people, I think.
One of whom is @AlexA. :P
Huh?
What?
@AlexA. ~2:00-2:30 UTC is okay for around when we should start the Discord thingies?
@Seadrus No? I don't know, which post are you talking about?
@Doorknob Sure
@Sherlock9 That's just the proposed start time. You can always join later if you want. :P
I think that's everyone, actually
22:18
o.c
I guess I can set up the event now then
0200 is awfully late. Let's see if I can make it. It's now 2200...
Anonymous
Given that I can't really hear or speak right now (yay being sick), I'll have to pass on Discord
I should probably modify Rotor to use @CompileStatic so it isn't so slow
@mınxomaτ 2 AM was in your range on the survey. Is that not ideal for you? Would it be better if we started earlier?
22:20
Normally though it isn't noticeable but I guess TIO isn't as beefy as my hydra :P
@Mego :( Hope you get better soon!
A shot in the blue: Anyone here ever needed to pass a byte array pointer to VB? I can read simple integer etc. values by ptr, but once I try to access an array, all hell breaks loose.
@Mego I myself caught a sinus infection a week or so ago
Anonymous
@Doorknob I just got back from a doctor. He shot me gave me a steroid shot and prescribed me drugs lovely medicine, so I should be feeling better soon.
@Doorknob Well it was the far end ('bearly awake') of my range. If it's possible to start earlier, that'd be better.
22:22
Luckily I have an IMMUNE SYSTEM OF STEEL
Hey check it out Blender SE got their design today.
@mınxomaτ I could probably set the event at 1, but it's just that there might not be very many people at the time (several people started their ranges at 3-4 AM). That sound good?
@quartata For a second I thought of kitchen blenders ...
Shiny. Almost too shiny
@Doorknob Sure.
22:25
@quartata It's a bit weird seeing "Stack Exchange" in the logo.
But I guess it has to be there.
Well, yesterday at 0030, there were around 3-5 people online shrug
"What is this, a bear for ants?!"
@Dennis I can bearly tolerate these bear puns
@mınxomaτ Oh, okay. 1 seems like a good compromise, then (there's nothing stopping people from joining earlier, anyway; the chat event is just so that more people join around the same time).
22:28
@Doorknob Why not just settle on a voice chat service and pin a msg saying something like "Join the voice chat here".
@mınxomaτ example.com is my favorite voice chat service
@mınxomaτ Because then nobody shows up at the same time, and it's usually just 2 people talking. :P
I think we've all agreed on Discord though
@Doorknob Like the event will be different. :D
@mınxomaτ Haha, hoping for the best...
22:29
Datcord, discord. All da cords.
I still have no idea what the chat event feature does, since I've never used it
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I think it pops up a banner thing for anyone who's in the chatroom or something
@Doorknob That works so well out of context...
I mean basically everyone resided to text chatting in Discord. I think my idea + a voice only service would lead to an optimal "causally join and leave the tab in the background" behavior.
@trichoplax haha true
@trichoplax The capitalization somewhat ruins it :P
22:30
yeah...
Skype > Discord
Teamspeak > Skype > Discord.
@mınxomaτ Or we could just kick anyone who talks in the chat. :P
@AlexA. Why?
Mumble > Teamspeak
@Doorknob That's a pretty ambiguous statement.
22:31
@quartata You broke the string ordering joke :(
@Doorknob Because everyone just text chats and the permissions are super weird.
@quartata I can't believe you've done this
@AlexA. First part can be fixed. Second part can be blamed on @Sherlock9 :D
The first part can't really be fixed though. But I definitely blame Sherlock for the second part. :P
@AlexA. can't really be fixed? Why not?
I think the way to remedy that is just to make more mouth noises
People will text chat. They just do. Like @quartata who joined but refused to speak.
22:33
@Doorknob Try joining here: app.vylo.org/rooms/put-room-name-here
@AlexA. Skype has text chat too...
That's voice only
Yeah but it sucks
@AlexA. Too lazy to get mic the first time, too lazy to join ever again
Discord has nice text chat
22:34
> put room name here
I was under the impression that Discord was dead anyways
@quartata :(
@Doorknob Yeah, I am pretty creative.
@quartata You mean the project itself or PPCG's participation in it?
PPCG's participation in it
22:34
Oh, okay. Idk.
With "join" I meant "join and speak words".
What was the reasoning for switching to Discord again? I remember everyone being really glad about it but not why...
@mınxomaτ Oh okay let me (try to) find my headphones
@Doorknob FWIW I didn't want to switch. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I like Vylo, cause the text chat sucks so much no one uses it and it eats up less RAM than Skype or Discord (ew) :)
It was probably something about how if whomever starts a Skype call needs to leave, the call has to be restarted by someone else.
(I think)
Anonymous
22:37
@Doorknob Because Skype was a steaming pile of shit when it came to large voice chats
@AlexA. Yeah and my phone ringing at ungodly times.
@mınxomaτ Okay I found my headphones are you on the Vylo thing
@mınxomaτ That's why you put your phone on silent ;)
Yeah.
@AlexA. It was.
That's the problem.
Oh
huh
22:38
@mınxomaτ I can't hear anything
My browser isn't supported by Vylo.
@Doorknob Say words. I'm muted atm
Anonymous
@mınxomaτ Faraday cage? Exorcism? Ghostbusters?
@mınxomaτ I said "words"
@Doorknob Shit. Doesn't work.
22:38
-_-
Words never work.
Violence is the answer.
Siolence.
@Doorknob OK, try this
@Calvin'sHobbies We should decide when we want to make the Time Capsule String challenge. Feb. 1? 2017? Something else?
@mınxomaτ Spaces in URLs? ಠ_ಠ
I said "more words"
God dammit
Anonymous
My favorite explanation for how a Faraday cage works came from my physics professor: "If you stick your phone in a microwave, it won't get any signal until you take it out. If you turn the microwave on, it will never get signal again."
22:43
._.
I said "words words words"
@Doorknob How about Jan 1, 2017? Easier to remember, and I don't think its a big deal if it isn't closed for exactly a year
I think your mic doesn't work tbh @Doorknob
@Calvin'sHobbies Sounds good
@mınxomaτ .-. Try Discord?
22:44
Link?
-.- ... it works.
Uhhhhh.
I have Discord open in Firefox
maybe that makes the difference
@mınxomaτ I heard someone make a noise on this
22:46
@AlexA. Probably me.
@AlexA. Safari?
TWO PEOPLE TALKING IN DISCORD. World premiere.
:O
I remember the first day when it was like five
@mınxomaτ Hai
I'll just pin the tab.
@Doorknob I was there and you guys made me use push to talk so I stopped talking
haha
Maybe this is one of those things where Discord is theoretically better but Skype is better in practice
22:49
That's the impression I get
@Doorknob You have a huge delay between you starting to talk and the mic actually going on air. Half of your first words are always cut ...
Get a better mic.
I blame Discord
I'm using the built-in one on my laptop :P
22:50
Sounds like you're living in a tin can :D
He's a metal knob, what do you expect
@Roujo Has the best mic yet.
At least, I think it's that one
It's a Modmic, but I can't remember if it's omni- or mono-directional
Enough with this experiment. I just opened an open-ended skype call. Join when you feel like it.

10/10
... so, are we going to go with Skype or Discord?
0/10 would not discord again

Just fixed a bug I've been working on for 10 minutes: June has 30 days

Oh I hate COM. If you return a Byte array, it will magically be converted to a hexadecimal String(!!!) along the way...
Return from server: [255, 43, 44, 45], client receives: 0xFF2B2C2D...
One goal for PyAcidic: operations on types make sense.
23:13
"operations on types" ?
is this operating on something's type, or operating on the types themselves?
I.e., adding or multiplying strings, lists, numbers, etc...
What it PyAcidic?
The next language I'll eventually make.
Esolang or actual language?
23:15
^
I'd like to actually use it, but it'll probably start out as an esolang...
I have a coder friend who apparently doesn't know what esolangs are
Me: "So I'm making an esoteric language"
Him: "What's that? Do you mean scripting language?"
Me: ಠ_ಠ
lel
The time between rep capping and UTC midnight is oddly unsettling.
23:21
@Cyoce "You mean like JavaScript?"
23:32
Its awfully hard writing a programming language tokenizer/interpreter without taking a compiler theory class...
@GamrCorps if you're making a tokenizer, are you using lex or some other such tool?
those make it pretty easy
@GamrCorps Not really (from my experience).
@GamrCorps Tell me about it.
Holy crap when did all of you show up
23:34
But there's a good chance it'll end up like
So I am making a "Begginer's programming language" for my engineering class and I am almost done with the tokenizer. I am going to start on the lex tonight. Its gonna have python-like (python 2.7-like) syntax and the goal is to make it as simple and easy to understand as possible to new programmers
@GamrCorps I made this from scratch. It's not that pretty, but it works shrug :)
@mınxomaτ thats really cool
Actually, now that I think about it, the syntax is moreso like LUA than Python
@GamrCorps I watched a conference talk some time ago about research into what sort of wording works best in programming languages.
the only interpreter I made outside of a compilers class was for a funge-like language, so a tokenizer is just exploding the strings
23:39
@El'endiaStarman I linked you to that I think. "Evidence driven programming" afaik.
@mınxomaτ yep
I think it'd be good to watch.
@El'endiaStarman On 1.5x speed :D
23:53
GOD SAVE US
XD
I have 3395 lines in my file :P
FUCK
3
I missed when my code hit 360 lines
and 420 lines
I can still make 1337 though
Or 2038.
Surely you could golf 666 down to 420.
Take the metal back to reggae.
23:57
420 golf it
haha
There's an Area 51 proposal for a marijuana-themed Stack Exchange site. Last I saw, it had one follower: the guy who proposed it.
luckily I was able to capture this one:
