I always say yes to this:
Eggplant (Solanum melongena) or aubergine is a species of nightshade grown for its edible fruit. It is known in South Asia, Southeast Asia and South Africa as brinjal. "Eggplant" is the common name in North American and Australian English but British English uses "aubergine". Other common names are melongene, garden egg, or guinea squash. The fruit is widely used in cooking. As a member of the genus Solanum, it is related to both the tomato and the potato. It was originally domesticated from the wild nightshade species, the thorn or bitter apple, S. incanum, probably with two independent do...

I like eggplant

That is correct.

Eggplant always sounds like a word a three year old would invent.

@minxomat The Americans probably adopted the name "eggplant" as a further sign of rebellion from their former British rulers, who call it "aubergine."

@minxomat The white variants look like an egg. You got a better name?
Personally I think eggplant is very catchy

> aubergine

@quartata Yeah, aubergine.

Woo I can beat El'endia if I cheat (woo cheating)

12:03 AM
@AlexA. Like banana, huh?
@Sp3000 o_O
How?

Sp woos El'endia!

@AlexA. Well, usually the british words sound sillier.

It's not very effective!

So you know how ><> pushes -1 on EOF? I was pushing -1 on EOF for int input as well

12:04 AM
Aw.

That kinda breaks things when the input has -1

@Sp3000 Minkolang does that too.

@minxomat As an American, I can agree with you on that. :P

Yeah, but you actually have a loop that runs until EOF right?

Right. (...$I$).
Which pushes the length of input onto the stack and then breaks the loop if it's 0.

12:06 AM
@minxomat Ok that's pretty good

I have this idiom precisely for cases where it would be a problem. :P

It doesn't really describe it

Yeah, I only have SI which moves down on EOF instead of pushing -1, and new line are expensive :/
Hence the cheating - interpreter now has a flag which is set to true on EOF, and the E instruction now checks that instead of whether the stack top is -1

@minxomat ah the glory days of le 4chan

12:07 AM
@Sp3000 And even with that you still tied me? Dang.

Yeah... (expensive newline is expensive)

@minxomat According to this, @Doorknob should really be called "Twisting Plankhandle."

@AlexA. I see no downside.
@DoorHandle Seriously?

@DoorHandle change your name to Twisting Plankhandle pls

DoorHandle has insufficient rep to talk in chat, though they can enter the chatroom.

12:12 AM
@AlexA. Sock confirmed.

Also why their avatar doesn't display.

@AlexA. rip
I don't think Doorhandle is actually Doorknob.
I thought NotDoorknob was Doorknob.

DoorHandle is Doorknobs evil twin.

oic

As if Doorknob wasn't evil enough.

12:13 AM
Hey @DoorHandle, go make 5 meaningful edits at +2 rep each then come back to chat.

No no don't listen to him

@quartata No, NotDoorknob is not Doorknob. Obviously.

Post a Ruby answer get your master to upvote it
No one.

Oh sorry, misunderstood.

I suspect he's @El'endiaStarman's sock actually

12:15 AM
ಠ_ಠ

@El'endiaStarman Thatha

I have no socks!

Only shoes

@El'endiaStarman You should do some laundry.

Well, in real life, I do. It's a bit chilly in this basement.

12:15 AM
Alex is probably pulling out all the mod tools by now

Shoe confirmed?

@Sp3000 For what?

(wow no one paid any attention to my sick burn)

I already know all about DoorHandle, if that's what you mean.

Ah, right :P I thought you mods had fancy tools like IP tracking or what not

12:16 AM
@Sp3000 Nuclear missiles too
They got lots of things

@quartata It was neither ill nor sufficiently warm.

@quartata Am mod, can confirm.

@AlexA. dammit

I calls them like I sees them.

12:18 AM
@Sp3000 We have utility belts, not unlike Batman.

@minxomat lmao what

@minxomat Where did you find this?
Was that on Gems from SE?
It looks quite familiar.

Indeed. @AlexA.

I read this out loud.
Big mistake
My screen started spewing HTML ichor all over
And then a pony showed up and burst into flames for some reason

12:20 AM
@Sp3000 They tend to be even more expensive in Minkolang because I can fit so much onto one line...

Then I woke up in my bed with my left kidney missing

I'm beginning to think this recollection is diverging from reality.

Why did "also" get starred?

Alex, I presume.

@El'endiaStarman ಠ_ಠ
Why would you assume that?

12:21 AM
I didn't assume...I presumed...

@El'endiaStarman Golfwise, one-line tends to be better yeah :P I tried making "Teleporting Flatfish" at one point, but then I realised "Hmm this is basically CJam"

@El'endiaStarman Why would you presume that?

> Was that on Gems from SE?
I read that as Germans from SE

@AlexA. 'cause you're the resident troll. :P

@El'endiaStarman ಠ_ಠ ಠ_ಠ ಠ_ಠ ಠ_ಠ

12:22 AM
@Sp3000 You probably would've ended up with something more like Minkolang than CJam.

@El'endiaStarman That's Geobits.

@minxomat Much like yourself!

I had arrays at one point - took them out again because they weren't "><>y" (read: Pythonic for ><>)

Subwoofers are cool

@Sp3000 Minkolang has an array. I haven't actually used it yet though.

As a data type?

12:25 AM
@AlexA. awwww

My votes reset :D :D :D :D

@Sp3000 Actually, no. Not one you can have on a stack, anyway. It's a global array.

My subwoofers are rectangular and black and very loud

I will count how many votes I am allocated.

@TheDoctor

12:26 AM
Is that a dog with hydraulics?

@El'endiaStarman Ah right, yeah I meant on stack :P Global array sounds interesting though (but it sounds like you could use the codebox for that?)

@Sp3000 If you use the codebox, you can have issues with characters already there.

You could use a row that doesn't contain your code?

Hey @CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ did you ever push my changes to the chat bot

12:27 AM
@AlexA. Those look like dual-cone or coaxial fullranges, not subs

I'd make a pull request but lazy

@Sp3000 At that point, it'd probably be easier and less expensive to use the global array. :P

@quartata where?

I think it's n-dimensional, in fact. Only two dimensional. I considered making it n-dimensional.

@quartata erm Idk

12:28 AM
@TheDoctor github

@TheDoctor Idk they look more like headless dogs to me

@El'endiaStarman Well, I guess? :P one byte shorter per g/p I suppose

@quartata very specific

@Sp3000 Let's say you have a For loop. i gets you the loop counter, but your code is on the first line, so you do i1+ to shift it down. +2 bytes.

12:30 AM
You could do i9p assume you have no code on line 9

@Sp3000 Maybe there is code there.
Maybe you've filled up a 9x9 square and have to do math.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ you need more repositories

Well that's just going into specific cases :P (in ><> at least, you can go up to f for one thing)

@TheDoctor Idk what a repository is. :P JK

12:31 AM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ on github?

@Sp3000 Yeah. It actually kinda annoys me that 10 requires 3 bytes in Minkolang, but I've already used abcd...
I don't yet know what I'll use e and f for.

I think even if you don't have 11-15, you should at least have something for 10

@TheDoctor Is your GitHub username intended to be a reference to that Canadian comedy show from the 90s?

@AlexA. Indeed it is!

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ I found an issue with your code.

That's truly a reckless oversight on your part, Conor.

Oh, @CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ, I'm reading your Simplex readme, and if your parenthetical is 2 whole paragraphs, it shouldn't be a parenthetical.

@VTCAKAVSMoACE Lol, crap :D

@VTCAKAVSMoACE hahahahahahahaha

@El'endiaStarman Actually, a parenthetical can span multiple paragraphs. (And thanks for reading it :D)

What are parentheticals? (Perhaps they're something like this (or this instead), with parentheses [what about square brackets (or even nested (can we nest these things?

No - I think that would brake the "stubborn" aspect of the sackoverflow users.

@quartata If you hate jQuery, come, and join arms with me!

I have no opinion.

I don't use JavaScript. :D

I, however, don't think it's capable of doing all things like some seem to think...

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Yay

It can add numbers tho rite?

12:48 AM
Only you can add numbers!

Wow I wasn't immediately slaughtered for expressing my dislike of jQuery.

If this was Stack Overflow I'd be so dead

@quartata ... that you know of.

Poison can take a while to absorb into the bloodstream.

12:49 AM
@quartata I'm not slaughtering you because I'd prefer to let your non-use of jQuery be a problem. :P

@AlexA. That is actually not a bad idea for April 1 next year

@MartinBüttner are you allowing brute forcing all the combinations?
not sure it's better than some combinatorial counting, but it might come up

@Doorknob :D
Why wait until April?

Why put off until tomorrow what you could put off until the day after?
Words to live by.

@Depends on pixel aspect ratio.

(I can't scroll continuously. Not a touchscreen.)

@El'endiaStarman That doesnt make sense.

Oh wait, yes I can. I have a touchpad.
@minxomat My mouse can't scroll continuously, so I don't see that "vibration".

Q: The jQuery showdown

Cᴏɴᴏʀ O'BʀɪᴇɴSome time after this incident… There are some of us who are against this defiling order of jQuery. It is an unholy presence, of which must be exterminated. I therefore call on you, the loyal to The New Kingdom of Reformation, to create a program that will eliminate such resistance. All code must...

@El'endiaStarman :3
@VTCAKAVSMoACE Maybe I shoullllld....

@NewMainPosts This is officially impossible in AppleScript.

@El'endiaStarman o____o the oOs stay XD

@El'endiaStarman Gah! Now the parentheses can never be balanced!

What's up everyone? (New here)

Quick, edit a post!
Hello @AlienG ! Glad you could be here!

Ah! An Alien!

Yeah, I'm known as an Alien for being weird :S

Wait - they only ever attack the USA, so I'm save.

1:36 AM
@minxomat I thought the name was Allen. o-o

Wait, you're not in the USA?!? Oh no, my plans...
3

muahaha

They're ruined!

@NewMainPosts I'm going to try to make a Groovy one using the Java UTF 16 code trick
@AlienG Very mysterious
> Apparently, this user prefers to keep an air of mystery about them.

1:37 AM
@NewMainPosts I would love to see a jQuery answer written solely with the characters forbidden.

@VTCAKAVSMoACE hue hue

Any of you know GamrCorps?

@AlienG He's in here often.
@GamrCorps!

Yeah, close friend of mine.

Oh, cool!

1:39 AM
^-^

Did you join because of him?

Yeah.

He always quotes cool topics from here and I found them quite interesting.
So naturally, you know.

1:42 AM
Are all of you commonly here in this chat?

@AlienG Yes.

Then hello C:

(Quick question: I have a regex and I need to match it's opposite. How???)
\d+\.\d*\d*\$

@AlienG I think you mean "!dlroW ,olleH"l\O;. ;)

What do you mean, "opposite"? Everything which that doesn't match?

1:44 AM
@Doorknob I mean I don't want to replace a $ if it is preceded by regex \d+\.\d*\d* in a replace expression

@VTCAKAVSMoACE Yeah, that. XD

I think that the links in the typical scoring Javascript thingydooda is broken for Safari 9.
Maybe opening it in a new tab would fix it?

Quick question, are you guys (and possibly girls?) pro coders?

@AlienG Hellnah.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Hmm, that's tricky. Does it have to be a single regex?
@AlienG nope, although one day maybe :)

1:48 AM
@Doorknob No, I don't think it is possible with a singular regex
@AlienG Haha, we are all pro relative to the majority.

Alright, cool.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ yeah, that's what I was going to say

Also @VTCAKAVSMoACE try incognito? Might sound weird but it sometimes helps...

@Doorknob Yeah. I was thinking of replacing all instance of the matched characters with a special control sequence then replacing all $ not in that control sequence, but what the control sequence might be escapes me.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ there's a much easier way

1:49 AM
@Doorknob Enlighten me?

@AlienG Who uses a private window for code golf?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ match on \d+\.\d*\d\$|(\$)
then if the capture group is non-null, you know it's something you want
it's a neat trick I learned a few months ago, actually

@Doorknob Mind. Blown. Thank you for passing on your wisdom to me :D

glad to help :D

@VTCAKAVSMoACE I do because then I can't mix tabs.
Well not always but quite often.
<--- That's why I have the nickname of "Alien" (I am weird)

1:56 AM
@El'endiaStarman I'm here!

hi!

@AlienG I'm trying to become a pro programmer. :P
