8:04 PM
BANISH IT

8:18 PM
they get bigger

Idea: ' is the only string delimiter, and " is the same as ''

@RadvylfPrograms so in other words you have a 1-byte builtin for the otherwise 2-byte empty string?

Yep
And then since '' is free, make ''. a character literal .

@RadvylfPrograms Continuing my trend of cursed language suggestions, make “” strings and have both " and ' left over

' is the empty string and " is the string ' :p

8:28 PM
Then what are ˵ and ˶?
compressed strings?

Of course. And the single quote versions of ^^^^, and , can be for character literals
Uncompressed and compressed, I guess

We also have ʽʼ though.
and ̓, the greek Koronis

> compressed character literals
i am looking forward to this

I would assume ̽ is a builtin for taking something to the power of the automatically-initialized variable x?

Ash had those
Well actually, they weren't really compressed characters, more like a single token from the string compression algo

8:31 PM
yeah i was about to say

This is the Mathematica of golflangs. Builtins for everything you never need!

the compressed string analogue of a character literal

Wait actually, it did have compressed characters. A weird sort of semi-UTF thing.
If the code point of the following byte was less than 0x80, it'd be a Unicode character determined by the following bytes, and otherwise it'd be a non-ASCII codepage character IIRC

Actually, we have small letters ᵃ so can we just get rid of the exponentiation operator?

Instead of Unicode, let's use a custom encoding that sorts characters by their size
No way should be bigger than a

8:35 PM
@RadvylfPrograms I interpreted this as byte size and was confused

(last one)

Actually, for golfing purposes, it could be interesting to have 64 half-byte characters, 256 1-byte, ...

Am I math wrong or you
3

I math wrong
But you get the idea. Actually have some 2-byte characters in the language for less common tasks so those things don't get too too long, but keep the common ones 1-byte.

I mean, languages already sort of do that. Diagraphs like Vyxal's k and Jelly's ø/Ø/æ/Æ/... are pretty common
You'd just need to map them to single chars
Which nobody does because codepage designing is pain

8:40 PM
Ok

@RadvylfPrograms Did that with halfwit

it's hard enough to have a good aesthetic across 256 characters

@UnrelatedString tiny pictures of a word which explains the function /s
Why does nobody use halfwit in competitions?

@emanresuA Am I being dumb or does halfwit not have any nilads from 0..9

shitty idea that i just thought of though
for a variable-size codepage, make most of it fullwidth characters
but then the half-size codepoints could be fuckin halfwidth kana

8:43 PM
@RadvylfPrograms Those are 1.5 bytes lol

Huh. I just had an answer to a code-golf challenge accepted. Been a while since that happened.

@emanresuA Where? kk seems to map 0 to 9 to other numbers, like 100

Compressed numbers

@DLosc especially on a 4 year old question with its most recent activity 6 days ago

Ah I see

8:46 PM
I need an excuse to use the ⅊ symbol.
Hypothetically, would Ⱶ (half-H) be the builtin for a quarter of something?

9:36 PM
maybe it divides by √2, so you're halfway to halving

@Ginger Aside from the hand out of the back, I want a cat with an elephant's trunk that can both toot and meow :P

2 hours later…
11:14 PM
A cat with a hand out of its back would be useful for lots of stuff, though
Train it with food, so it holds your phone and stuff

11:34 PM
MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU

@Seggan where did you read this?
Also, my money (or lack thereof, rather) is that it'd be free for students in the student pack

11:50 PM
@RadvylfPrograms okay so
how, exactly, will GKOTH work with RTO?
I can't just use the standard environment

Sounds like a Ginger problem

:/
it's your project

Tell me what functionality you need and it'll be there within 24h

the ability to import the rto.koth library
which I haven't written yet
your only hope is to get out your time machine, travel to the future. and get it from future Ginger

Whoa, a koth library on RTO? That could be a game changer

11:53 PM
Call it gkoth

okay okay
@user well, not on RTO exactly
it should only be available through GKOTH

@user RTO's going to have a ton of KotH tools, to make multi-language KotHs much much easier, Ginger's working on a sort of mockup of that right now

I was not informed that this was a "mockup"
>:(

Nice

I've been comparing your project to the 'official RTO KotH tools' this whole time
Like I've said multiple times before I am not interested in accepting other people's code as a part of RTO

11:56 PM
aaaaaaa
this is no mockup!

Apr 30 at 23:41, by Radvylf Programs
I don't want to discourage you if you want to make a mockup or something, but I prefer to work alone on this sort of thing

I am making a full-featured project
that just happens to integrate with RTO

Oh okay. Misunderstanding in wording.

nice

So GKotH is going to be a separate project with an overlapping feature set?

11:57 PM
yes

Okay good

a better project
subdued evil laughter

Well if I'm understanding it right your project aims to make making controllers easier, so it's distinct enough from the RTO KotH tools for both to exist together rather than compete

pretty much I guess
since I'm basing it off of my original specifications
but anyway
how do I get gkoth into RTO?
