@RedwolfPrograms I'm seeing a very distinct lack of specs

@cairdcoinheringaahing Werewolf programs as well

that doesn't rhyme tho

@lyxal Same :P
@lyxal So you're allowed to quote this out of context, but no one else...

@emanresuA the "don't quote out of context" part is mostly in jest
Like obviously it's fine if you're using it for comedic purposes
But it's not meant to be taken seriously / used as an argument against vyxal
The "context" is comedic

CMC: Given positive integer n, output the number of ways to fill in an n-by-n square with numbers from 1 to n such that there are no repeats in each row and column

3:13 AM
@lyxal I consent to this

(surely this is in OEIS somewhere)

@emanresuA Ooh, but we need new ones now because the names have been changed...
(I like Winsome Pants, tho)

@LeakyNun and surely the Wikipedia article on latin square mentions such sequence

sigh I just spent a few minutes trying to figure out why øT wasn't transposing my list in Vyxal
it's because ÞT transposes lists in vyxal

3:20 AM
== Area rectangulorum quadrorumque == Area A rectanguli computari potest per formulam A = a b , {\displaystyle A=ab,} ubi a est longitudo unius lateris et b longitudo alterius. hic non eam videre possum

@lyxal ಠ_ಠ

@lyxal It says on the left, but pretty vaguely
Intel i5, 8 GB RAM, and a 256 GB SSD

luckily it doesn't seem to have a formula there XD

> At-a-glance features

13.5" Display
Up to 11 hours of battery life.
That's about all I see spec wise

3:24 AM
Above the "where to buy"

I think it's something I'm too Australian to see

Oh, might be

but at least show me the specs then
even if it isn't avaliable
stoopid google

@lyxal I definitely read that as "Thank you for your internets!"

@RedwolfPrograms A Chromebook can make a lower tier Celeron pretty fast, so an i5 Chromebook would probably be cool to see

3:26 AM
@DLosc Same :P

@lyxal don’t worry, you’re not alone

anyway i generated that using this (195 bytes) which should be pretty unoptimal

@AaroneousMiller the fact I commented the correct element on that makes it worse

lol

3:29 AM
@LeakyNun Vyxal, 17 bytes: ɾṖ3↔'ÞTƛĊvtḢḢ;A;L: Try it Online!

i have to go to school in 30 mins :/

I left school an hour ago :P

I left school a year ago ;p

Dangit, lyxal, I was going to make that joke ;P

oh ;P

3:31 AM
@DLosc lol
how long ago?

My last school class of any kind was almost three years ago--Sept - Dec 2018. Graduated May 2019.

Ugh, for some reason Ctrl + A then Backspace in quick succession doesn't delete things for me
It just moves to the start of the selection
Wonder if it's Firefox or Windows

@DLosc school as in college or school as in high school?

@lyxal Graduate school
@RedwolfPrograms I think I've had this happen, and I don't think it was just Firefox. Might be Windows.

Hmm, Edge doesn't seem to do it...

3:35 AM
Experimentation in Notepad++ reveals a different problem: I haven't released Ctrl before I hit Backspace, so I'm hitting Ctrl-Backspace (which does nothing)

Ohh that might be it

firefox problem

Why doesn't Ctrl + Backspace delete stuff when you've highlighted something >:|

works in vivaldi
works in notepad
doesn't work on firefox

FF might do some sort of "hold ctrl for extra long" thing maybe?
I think it does
Ugh the ctrl+backspace thing just got me again

3:37 AM
Yep, it's Firefox.

@RedwolfPrograms FlipFlip? a new browser idea?

Might be FF implementing its own ctrl key behavior, which would make sense. It probably just handles it in a slightly more annoying way than other things.
I might have to redefine what Ctrl + Backspace does when something's highlighted, this adds like 200ms to my ctrl+a+ctrl+backspace'ing, which is unacceptable

I think it's just that it takes a little time to process the selection

Nope, I can have it selected already, then do a ctrl-release-backspace and it'll do the move to the left thing

just don't select anything and just hold ctrl+backspace anyway

3:41 AM
Whoa--and Ctrl + Del deletes the contents of the first line of the selection

No, the first word
Okay I never realized how often I ctrl+a+backspace until now
It's like every other message

looks like it's just for default textboxes

@RedwolfPrograms Curiouser and curiouser

Wait
Ctrl + Backspace doesn't move to the front of the selection

ctrl+a -> backspace works as expected in the "Code" box on lyxal.pythonanywhere.com on Firefox (because it's codemirror)

3:43 AM
@RedwolfPrograms It deletes the word to the left of it

Amazing

So that makes the ctrl+bksp and del ones consistent

@lyxal but it does the annoying thing inside the inputs box (because it's just a standard input)

Because it just does the normal behavior from the start of the selection

that's so weird

3:44 AM
@RedwolfPrograms Ahhh, makes sense now

@lyxal Well yeah, CM completely reimplements ctrl and the cursor and stuff

solution: userscript that makes everything CM

I hate you

ok i an going to school

o/

3:45 AM
Especially since I know how cursed CM is

It's not actually cursed at all
works good

Maybe just Text's usage of it then

i mean sure, it breaks after 10k characters
but it's mostly good

that or it's just a small subsection that we use lol

3:46 AM
@lyxal That sounds like a misconfiguration
Text is based off CM and I've (accidentally) edited hundreds of megabytes long files

@RedwolfPrograms by breaks, I mean it stops syntax highlighting

@lyxal If CodeMirror can't handle your code, that means you need to golf it more?

@lyxal Oh, but that's per-line, right?

@DLosc exactly.
@RedwolfPrograms for reference, I'm talking about the code mirror implementation on the vyxal interpreter online

@RedwolfPrograms (and all syntax highlighting I've seen breaks after some line length)

3:47 AM
@RedwolfPrograms no, the entire thing just stops being coloured after 10k

@RedwolfPrograms lame /s

AAAAAGGHHH
I can't handle FF's janky ctrl handling
I'm moving back to Chrome

good

@RedwolfPrograms I was gonna say: Did an alligator chew off your arm?

that was the plan all along
@RedwolfPrograms use vivaldi
it's chromium but not chrome
and it has privacy protection

3:48 AM
@lyxal Thanks, now I have The Four Seasons stuck in my head :D

@RedwolfPrograms huh so it is
TIL
(cc @emanresuA)

@lyxal Wait, so that means the solution is to ungolf your code?

@DLosc no the solution is to use newlines

(I don't know Vyxal--do newlines do something?)

they do nothing
the point is that codemirror syntax highlighting breaks after 10k characters on a single line

3:52 AM
Right, so I'm saying that if you add newlines, that fixes the highlighting but makes your code longer

so if you somehow have a 10k+ byte program (most likely a CnR), you'll want to have newlines to get the syntax highlighting on each char
@DLosc correct
but as I said, you pretty much only have 10k+ bytes if you're doing a CnR challenge

Or maybe restricted source, yeah

(source: the long chain of Print X Without X Aaron, Emanresu and I did)

4:07 AM
7 messages moved to Trashcan

Fun fact: JS's type system makes it so that if you run '0' == false, all your friends are cast to null

4:20 AM
@RedwolfPrograms That seems to have impacted this guy

4:56 AM
Why tf do my laptop speakers have noise cancellation

because why not?
why not make things a better experience?
noise cancellation isn't just limited to headphones y'know

How is noise cancelling supposed to work on a laptop though

> A noise-canceling system is an active noise control system that listens to the surrounding ambient sounds and plays opposite sound in sync with the problem noise.
that's just from a quick duckduckgoing

Well yeah, but ANC can't possibly be practical or effective for a speaker in the middle of a room instead of right next to your head, right?

honestly, I don't know, but if they say it has it, it probably has it in a different way than what we're thinking of

5:01 AM
Must be, yeah
Maybe it's meant for headphones that are plugged into the laptop?

what laptop is this for?

wait is it the speakers that have cancellation or your laptop software

(as in, model)

@hyper-neutrino Idk, it's really vague
@lyxal HP something or other

specific model?

5:04 AM
Envy 13 IIRC

idk then
maybe it is just software that does audio changing

It also does some really annoying thing where the volume subtly wobbles in volume, if that makes sense
Like every couple of beats it's just...quieter. I think it's trying to be """smart""" and optimize how much bass/mids there is based on what's playing, but it just ends up making it sound weird

what the fuck

what happens if you just play some whitenoise

5:16 AM
if it still wobbles something's just broken lmao

I'll try a pure sine wave
If I turn off whatever "audio preset" thing it has (it has options like "music", "movie", and "voice", whatever that's supposed to do), it seems to work fine, but it sounds all tinny and gross

Actually, I messed around with the equalizer stuff (it seems there two of them?) and now it sounds okay
So...it works now I'm just so confused lol

5:25 AM
weirdchamp
hey does your computer speaker have split left/right audio
idk if this is even possible but maybe the stereo→mono merge causes issues due to funny things happening?

there's no way it would be mono
probably

2 hours later…
7:40 AM
@lyxal If you care about that, Brave might be better
@RedwolfPrograms Why, what happened?
If it’s Ctrl+Tab switching to the last window, you can change it in the settings to cycle through windows

i think it's about ctrl-bksp/ctrl-del while having a selection

Oh wait nvm
Write an extension to do what you want
Frick iPhones

em dash conversion ftw

@hyper-neutrino You should go to sleep, it’s 2:45

Cheap challenge idea: given a list of usernames who are typing, output the Discord-like typing message, e.g. "Bubbler is typing...", "Bubbler and user are typing...", "Bubbler and 3 others are typing..."

7:49 AM
what's the spec on that
how many before it says "several users" (also, does it ever say "X and N others" ?)

Just assume I tried to mimic Discord badly

Does Bubbler have to be the first value in the list or was Bubbler randomly chosen to be the first whose name is listed?

The examples correspond to 1 user, 2 users, and 3+ users

would've been clearer if you said "and 2 others" lol

with input of ["Bubbler"], ["Bubbler", "user"], ["Bubbler", "randomguy1", "randomguy2", "randomguy3"]
Typing randomguy is so hard

7:52 AM
If the input is A, B, C then do you always say A and 2 others or is B and 2 others possible?

oh? huh, doesn't seem that bad to me lol. interesting

Always choose the first one (assume it's the one who started typing first)

“uy” is hard to type because same finger

Python, 91 bytes: lambda a,*b:a+(b and" and "+[b[0],f"{len(b)} others"][len(b)>1]+" are"or" is")+" typing..."
@user oh I forgot you guys actually use normal finger positioning
i type "guy" using left-index right-middle right-index

…What do you use?

7:55 AM
well I usually use my left hand for Y

@hyper-neutrino Do you have a right index?

what
yes my hands are normal

Then why not use your frocking index lol

for what

Typing uy

7:56 AM
i do???
left index for G, right middle for U, right index for Y

Whoops didn’t see that

or left index for G, right index for U, left index for Y
depends on the situation

Why middle for u? Seems more efficient in this case but probably annoying otherwise
Ah
Situation?

I don't typically use only one finger consistently on a given key
it depends on what i'm typing immediately before and after it
and it doesn't always make sense either
guess what finger i used to type the ' in doesn't

7:59 AM
Hmm
@SandboxPosts Not the most interesting challenge but yay I got mentioned in a challenge

Also CMegaC: Make the NP/SP bot to display a nonzero score :P

Bruh

alright i am back from school

I suppose if someone brings down Redwolf’s power somehow, this could be achieved

8:02 AM
yeah but then you just wouldn't get the bot message

Lol, HN just 11'd the chat message

yeah
i did that last time someone made that challenge too :P

@hyper-neutrino Oh do the bots not post stuff from when they were gone?

don't think so

wait how is user online

8:11 AM
I have a good internet connection

@user I used to use brave. Then I switched to Vivaldi

Yeah I mean Vivaldi has a bunch of cool features
Just that Brave might be a little better for privacy and is lighter

Brave also has a habit of not working after a while
Hence why I switched

I’d switch to Vivaldi but I installed it two different times and it was slightly laggy and didn’t have all that much that made me want to switch from FF

8:18 AM
in what way

I've always got the impression Brave is a bit of a scam

honest question my dad uses brave and has weird problems on occasion that neither of us understand

Also @user what are you doing here? I swear you don't pop in here until later lol

it does sort of seem that way

@lyxal Wait really? I used it for a few months last year, was pretty good

8:19 AM
the fucking
attention token thing

@lyxal It’s 3:19 here lol

@user it was probably because it was on a school controlled computer

i can see how that would happen

Some settings might have gotten mucked up
But it didn't happen with Vivaldi
Besides I like 3d scrolling

what now

8:20 AM
And if you’re blocking is too strict it might break sites

@user in the morning or in the afternoon?

Morning
Night, really

same here
what a wiiiiiiiiiild coincidence

oh
that sure is
a feature

8:21 AM
^

Yes, it is.

oh yeah what time zone even is 12 hours off from est

No, that sure is a bug :P

or is it edt
i can never remember which half of the year is daylight savings

I’ve seen a Chrome bookmarklet that can do that, is this built into Vivaldi?

8:23 AM
Built in

how the hell can a bookmarklet do that

@UnrelatedString Just say ET

@UnrelatedString CSS transform

does js just have functions somewhere that let you rotate parts of the page in 3d space

@UnrelatedString It just can. It could even put space between lauers, pretty cool

8:23 AM
that is actually built into css???
wow

@UnrelatedString well it is under the css transformation menu on Vivaldi

The C stands for “Crap this is something you can do in a non-TC pos language?”

It's funny because most people say they switched from Vivaldi to brave while I'm just over here going in the opposite direction
But once DDG drops their desktop browser imma definitely switch to that because brand loyalty

Wait why would you go the other way?
Just because of BAT and Brave’s “Tor” mode that isn’t even Tor?

8:28 AM
I told you brave stopped working on my school computer because idk why so I had to find an alternative
Vivaldi was that alternative and now I'm used to it

Ello

okay so eastern standard time is 12 hours off from some parts of indonesia and one of those big not so populated chunks of russia
and eastern daylight time is 12 hours off from the entirety of china and i think i remember that one because there's one guy i occasionally talk to from the philippines
and it's currently standard time

@lyxal nono b->v makes sense, why would anyone go v->b?

@user why the fuck would they have fake tor and how the fuck is this the first time i've heard someone mention it

@user Because I didn't know the browser meta
Besides I actually like Vivaldi better

8:32 AM
@UnrelatedString I dont think it’s fake, but it’s not that secure according to random people online. Addmitedly, I don’t have proof or even remember what was wrong

@user also, easier screenshots lol

@lyxal No I get that, I’m asking why the majority of people switch from Vivaldi to Brave

@user oh idk why

8:34 AM
i remember EDT is 12h off of china cuz it's relevant for when i used to call my grandparents every now and then and just swapping the AM/PM was easy :P

@user It's just on things like esolangs discord and code golf discord people have mentioned they went from v to b

I remember NZDT is UTC+12
(NZST, which we're in right now, is UTC+13)

Pretty sure the acronyms should go the other way around

I hate browsing reddit on mobile, if I click on a post and then go to the previous page, it reloads it

Use the app

8:36 AM
@lyxal Wait really? Oops

I don’t want another app

or one of the third party apps which i hear are better from not having ever used them

Besides, don’t you have to sign in to use the app?

@emanresuA yeah lol the D stands for daylight and the S stands for Standard
@user no
You don't

i'm not actually sure

8:36 AM
Iirc you don't

@UnrelatedString Maybe I’ll try those
Oh ok then
Time to become an honorary Redditor

🗿

My health teacher would be so proud
3

8:39 AM
@user prepare to have your irony levels boosted like crazy

Reddit taught me how to sh*tpost and I'm fine with that
3

reminds me i saw a comment a few days ago about how they couldn't help reading 々 as ノマ and i must now share this cursed knowledge

That just sounds like vyxal modifier parsing with extra steps
@emanresuA ^

True :P

8:41 AM
Got the gosh dang fricking wrong reply

@UnrelatedString Why, what’s that in English?

Well, time to write Vyxal in Chinese

the first one is the kanji repetition mark and the second one is the katakana syllables "no" and "ma"

@lyxal Yay, my doctor did say I needed more
Oh irony nvm
2
@UnrelatedString What do the repetition mark and no and ma mean?

the repetition mark just looks like no and ma smashed together
which i had never really thought of before

8:43 AM
Sorry, I assumed it was chinese for some reason. I'm still learning hiragana, haven't got to katakana yet.

What does no mean in English though?

i don't think it really means anything in isolation since katakana are mostly used to spell loanwords

Ah

although they can also be used as direct substitutes for the various functions of hiragana for emphasis or other stylistic effect in which case it's a possessive particle that also means like three other things that i'm not actually familiar with
and i think there are several homophones as well

like i'm fairly sure there's a word for field that's a relatively common component in names
that's a nice looking challenge

Bs gen found on reddit

CMC: Longest sentence on ^
I have 49 (continually deliver economically sound leadership)
Ok nvm I got 58 (progressively conceptualize intermandated customer service)
Now 63

@UnrelatedString wanikani lists the reading of that as のま
and you have to fucking answer it to pass the review

lmao what

8:59 AM
i don't even know why it needs a reading, i guess maybe they just didn't want to modify the software to support having a kanji with no reading lol
