Q: Pre-order + post-order to in-order

LynnTask Given the pre-order and post-order traversals of a full binary tree, return its in-order traversal. The traversals will be represented as two lists, both containing n distinct positive integers, each uniquely identifying a node. Your program may take these lists, and output the resulting i...

Q: Simplest Tiling of the Floor

randomraYou should write a program or function which receives a string describing the floor as input and outputs or returns the area of the simplest meta-tiling which could create the given pattern of the floor. The floor is a part of a square grid. Every square tile is colored either azure or black (re...

Q: Greedy stunt man!

Rahul VermaInspired by this challenge, I got the idea of this one. Challenge A set of vertical columns is provided as a multiline non-emtpy string. Each column have some glass-walls \$(w)\$ = and may have some coins \$(c)\$ $. You have to determine which column will give you the maximum efficiency \$(\eta)\...

@user202729 I think the "part of the quine must encode the rest of the quine" is also rather arbitrary and very ill-defined (define "encode".)
It's like banning golfing languages... does quines like 1\n stop you from posting interesting answers or make the competition les interesting?

Q: Never trust a mastermind

Zsolt SzilagyYou probably know the game mastermind: The player tries to guess a code of 4 slots, with 8 possible colors - no duplicates this time. Let's call those colors A through H, so possible solutions could be ABCD or BCHD. Each time he places a guess, the game master will respond with two information: h...

Q: How many prime numbers are in a range?

yossicoWrite a function or program that accepts two integers as an input (a,b) that defines a range, and outputs the number prime numbers in that range. Examples: input: a=1,b=10 output: 4 (the primes are 2,3,5,7) input: a=2, b=7 output: 4 (the primes are 2,3,5,7)

Regarding this, I got no reply from @xnor and I think we need some default rules, so I posted a new question on Meta

Q: Default policy for ouput in decision problems

Luis MendoChallenges tagged as decision-problem involve "deciding whether the input meets certain criteria". Although some challenges with this tag involve more than two categories, most involve only two categories, which seems to be the main purpose of the tag. This meta question refers to two-category de...

could anyone tell me what color the vertical line is in imgur.com/a/ZA0EW6G ? That is the exact rgb value

@Anush #009980; surely you could've loaded the image in an editor and color-picked yourself (though i used a program i had made to zoom in & get hex color of a certain pixel)

@dzaima Thanks! I tried grabc which is meant to do it but it seems broken. Which editor could I se?

@Anush i used to just use gimp

5:46 PM
@Anush Your browser's devtools should have a color picker:

I use ColorPic

6:09 PM
Thanks. I am scared of gimp

Why?
If it's just the name, try Glimpse, AKA the rename fork

I am on Linux

Gimp is Linux-friendly

Q: Print a Ternary Value

Daniel H.Let's suppose the laws of physics are different, and transistors have three states instead of two. This would allow us to use a ternary system instead of the usual binary, which means that in eight bits, we would have 38 = 6561 possible values instead of 28 = 256 possible values. Of course, we're...

@JohnDvorak true
@JohnDvorak because normally all I want to do is crop and image or draw something on an image

What do you use instead?

gthumb for cropping
I just need a simple 2 minutes lesson on how to load an image and crop using gimp
I think it is the layers that scare me

@user202729 I just tried it for a size of 100 and my best score for 2-way branches was slightly less than my best score for 3-way branches
@user202729 The point of a quine is that it's supposed to be indirect self-reference. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quine%27s_paradox for why there is a difference. Reading your own source file is direct self-reference. Personally I think JavaScript function source stringification also counts as direct self-reference.

@JoKing My strategy took less than a week. I didn't have any more luck with the self-erasing varieties.
