@Pavel C requires that too. It's inconsistent doesn't mean that you have to use the inconsistent way. ( a; b; ) doesn't throw an error.

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

DJMcMayhemOutput a sudoku board code-golf kolmogorov-complexity, sudoku Today's challenge is simple: Without taking any input, output any valid sudoku board. In case you are unfamiliar with sudoku, Wikipedia describes what a valid board should look like The objective is to fill a 9×9 grid with dig...

Thankyou!

Can anyone tell me what these characters are, by any chance? = () They don't render on my computer and are part of my homework.

\xef\xbf\xbd = \xef\xbf\xbd\xef\xbf\xbd\xef\xbf\xbd(\xef\xbf\xbd\xef\xbf\xbd)

Well, that's not quite what I was hoping for

Looks like it's messed up Unicode - that's U+FFFD, which is the replacement character

Dangit
Now I'm trying to math it out

r=cos(kθ)

Looks like fancy lettering that didn't render right

Thanks

Welcome - I knew precalc knowledge would come in handy some day!

I breezed through precalc faster than I could remember anything
I crammed the entire year into one month over the summer a couple years back

Precalc is basically remedial algebra for advanced students, isn't it?

Q: Would this be considered 'cheating'?

Eduardo HoefelSorry for the bad title, but I couldn't describe my problem in a few words. I'm creating a programming language aimed at code golf puzzles. The language has an internal set of tapes, where the computations are saved and then retrieved to the user. At the end of the program, the interpreter prin...

CMC: Given a positive integer n as input, output n as a sum of 3 palindromes. E.g.:15649 → 15051 + 595 +3; 1748963 → 1000001 + 679976 + 68986; 6158516 → 6158516 + 0 + 0; 6158515 → 5211125 + 932239 + 15151

@J.Sallé I saw the numberphile video, and taking from that this seems like an extremely tedious golfing challenge. Considering there are 40 special cases, and some guesswork involved.

@maxb oor just brute-force.

@LuisfelipeDejesusMunoz You don't need a fancy title, just post! There are too few challenges to tackle right now.
@dzaima That's probably a lot smarter... Though it depends on the maximum input size.

@maxb the number of special cases is precisely why I think this is a great challenge.

2:58 PM
@maxb it's code-golf, your code can take longer than the universes lifetime to run :p

@dzaima Fair point, though I think you could brute force numbers below \$10^9\$ quite easily, since the algorithm should be \$O(\sqrt{n}^3)\$ approximately
Dang it, no latex support. O(n^(3/2)) is what it says.

@J.Sallé Here is a 10 byte brute force solution in Husk: ḟo=⁰Σπ3Θİ↔

@maxb actually, Im posting it to the sandbox first. I feel it will need some fixing first

chat latex support is weird

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

Luis felipe De jesus MunozAs always, I don't know how to name this in this challenge you are going to place letters from the alphabet in a Cartesian plane and output the result as a text. Your input will consist in a list of list with 3 parameters X coordinate Y coordinate Letter How are we going to do that? using ...

Q: Semirhombic snake

int6hYou're given a triangular grid: It has 4 ports. You're also given four different pieces from A to D: Each piece has a little segment of path inside it. Your basic goal is to build paths between ports (1..4). Path is a collection of pieces put onto the grid. You may rotate the pieces in m...

@Mego Ah, pdf format
@feersum At least at our school: 1st half is review of Algebra II, then trig, trig, and more trig.

@Zacharý I just bought a trig textbook please don't mention trig again :P
I'm <cliché...> sick of it </cliché...>

So you're ...
TRIGGERED?
Sorry about the pun, that seemed to good of an opportunity to miss.

always love it when somebody deletes their question while i'm trying to clear some issues up

@notnottotallyhuman Long time no see! >_> was just trying to figure out what the challenge was asking as well

yeah
next question would've been "so what you're saying is, only the characters "345679" are banned"

9:36 PM
I'm probably going to post soon

@DJMcMayhem Great idea! My only comment is: not sure if applies here, because the output need not be constant
Also, three 3x3 matrices should be nine 3x3 matrices

Oh good point, thanks!
@LuisMendo I think it fits similar to this challenge:

Q: 5 Favorite Letters

Magic Octopus UrnThe challenge is actually extremely simple. Pick 5 distinct letters (you can just pick the 5 that allow you the shortest code if you like) and output them to the console. However, the twist is that they must be from the following list: AAA BBBB CCCC DDDD EEEEE FFFFF ...

@DJMcMayhem Well, in that challenge you get to choose the output, but once you do, the output is constant. In yours it's not constant even at runtime. Anyway, I think the tag can be applied, as the challenge is essentially Kolmogorov complexity

9:52 PM
@DJMcMayhem I actually think that a better argument is the Mandlebrot set, which is a classic example for kolmogorov-complexity
The Mandlebrot is totally different based on how where you decide to show the image
