10:01 PM
What's the shortest equivalent of [1] [0 0] in CJam?
The shortest I have is 1][TT]
(assuming there's nothing else on stack)
but I was wondering if there's a shorter way using base conversion or something

@EriktheOutgolfer assuming you meant me as the fish, I'm a wolf now :3 (and mostly have been for a long time)

you're "not quite a fish, not quite a beast", which kind of implies both :P

Does it still say that?

> Not quite a fish. Not quite a beast. Definitely muddy.

I forget to change things apparently

10:08 PM
yes, on chat
(which is independent from your parent site)
@EsolangingFruit there's also 1a[TT], where you don't need to "assume stuff"

Been 100% canine for 1.5 years at least now

hm, something smells fishy...

I got my first proper art about a year ago?
Maybe a bit more recent

can't exactly remember, sorry

@EriktheOutgolfer It's at the start of the program, so it doesn't really matter for me.

10:12 PM
That was more talking to myself :P
I don't really post that stuff here

yeah, I was talking to myself too, and I too didn't post my username changes when they happened
and I can assume you took a shower too, right?

I took a shower?

@EsolangingFruit 4Yb(a\ is also the same size >_>

@EriktheOutgolfer Yep, that's one of the things I tried

i.e. "are you still muddy?"

10:16 PM
What do you mean by that?
Ah
Blue is rather good at not being muddy

On multiple occasions I've wished for a "split" operator (let's say |) that takes a number n and an array a and pushes a[:n], a[n:], which would give us the 5 byte 4Yb1|

0T1]2/\ is sadly longer

(I'm more active over on Discord now which I've pretty much moved on to now. If you're on it as well as well, we could say hi there?)

what's your handle?

Blue#3287

10:20 PM
gah, updates

Lol

> Discord will now crash at random to keep you on your toes at all times. Your calves will thank us later.

I had fun with that

I sincerely hope it's just an April Fools joke

@user56656 I have an answer now. You flagged that as NAA which means it got put into the review queues. Mego saw it (in the review queues, not the mod flag queue) and marked Looks OK which automatically marked the flag as disputed.

10:22 PM
It is

@DJMcMayhem Ok.

It was marked looks OK because it contains code, therefore is is an answer, even if it's invalid. In the future, you should flag it as needs moderator attention to avoid putting it in the review queues. codegolf.meta.stackexchange.com/a/7990/31716

friendly reminder that NAA means "does not attempt to answer the question"
also that mod reviews are binding
(although disputing the flag was the correct thing to do)

Yeah, the confusion came because it seemed like the flag was manually disputed (which isn't even an option as far as I know)

To clear up what happened (since the relevant info to piece together the puzzle is public anyway): The NAA flag was cast. I saw the post in the LQ queue, and marked it as "Looks OK" (which automatically disputed the flag). It should have been declined (because NAA flags aren't for answers that attempt to solve the challenge but are invalid in some way), but disputed is close enough.

10:35 PM
And I just read DJ's posts. Oh well, now the info is all in one message.

Well, I like to think of disputed as being "the post needs moderator attention, but not this kind"

Anonymous
That's a decent way of looking at it

10:55 PM
@EriktheOutgolfer As of right now, a sheep actually rather than a goat

that's just his username...

It seems like its just a bunch of bureaucratic nonsense. As far as I'm concerned invalid answers should be deleted, regardless of whether or not they contain code.

shit like this happens and yet people still spend millions of dollars sponsoring these technologies i will never understand

11:18 PM
downsheep
what happened

Tell us Down---goat---sheep, don't be SHEEPISH. We've GOAT your back. (Now's when I stop)

@EriktheOutgolfer Do I still count as a dog, or has it been too long since that profile picture?

11:34 PM
@user56656 it's a huge distinction. NAA means that the person never had any intent to answer.
This is obviously an attempt at an answer
the code just didn't work right

Why does it matter though? Sure I might have not selected the flag that I was supposed to (it is still "not an answer though"), but the answer certainly doesn't "look OK" it is invalid and there is a comment explaining why.

Now, we are unique among the network in that we always delete answers that don't work rather than just using voting. So that's why it kinda sucks the only option to flag is a custom one
@user56656 marking it as helpful means it was in fact not an answer. marking it as disputed means "it needs to be deleted, but not for this reason." you'll notice both are distinct from a flag actually being declined and count differently towards stats

@user56656 Fwiw, no one said it shouldn't have been deleted (I deleted it recently)

"looks OK" implies it shouldn't be deleted to me.

And it was most certainly not NAA. NAA would be "pls help the codes don't work how do I hack the Gibson"

11:38 PM
Frequently I'll mark things in the review looks ok so that it can be correctly handled outside of the reviews

@user56656 "looks OK" is a judgment on the review queue item, not on the post

(especially for VLQ which is horribly broken all around)

that's more a problem with the queues though

@DJMcMayhem but nothing was done until nearly a week later when I started complaining. It seems like all of these distinctions just gets in the way of anything actually happening.

I'd say that's because you raised an NAA flag and not a mod flag. NAA flags aren't escalated to mods until they've stuck around in the regular queue for a while

11:41 PM
it was a mod that reviewed it.

now if you really want it gone fast, just post it here

I think NAA flags contribute towards answer bans (not sure though), so we should avoid flagging things as NAA when it's inappropriate to do so

This is part of the reason that I don't do much moderation. None of the reasons seem precise enough, there are too many rules that don't seem to be written anywhere, and I don't feel like writing an essay for a custom close vote/flag

Anonymous
@user56656 I reviewed it because I happened to see it in the LQ queue.

@Mego that too. like I said, there's a reason to be careful about your flags
@H.PWiz they are written in places

11:46 PM
I understand that I made a mistake in flagging it as NAA. But what has happened here is certainly evidence of how unbelievably broken and innagivable the system is.

(I also don't like looking for rules, or reading rules over multiple pages)

A: When to use NAA and when to flag Mod --> Other?

Shog9NAA and Other both go before the diamond moderators. NAA flags are also shown to reviewers, who usually handle a large portion of them. NAA flags are intended for answers which make no effort to answer the question - that is to say, the sorts of things that are commonly posted by folks used to ...

Anonymous
@user56656 Nothing was done because we weren't aware that anything needed to be done, until the flag was raised. In the future, if something requires mod intervention (like dealing with invalid answers), raise a custom mod flag, and specifically say what the problem is.

literally first result for searching NAA

@Mego Exactly that's the problem.

11:49 PM
@quartata I'm not really surprised, I guess my apprehension comes mainly down to a lack of effort

Anonymous
@user56656 What exactly is the problem?

I dont mean to vent but as a community we seem to be particularly insular to how to handle these things just because "SE system isn't a perfect fit for us." it's a legitimate hindrance when people are casting delete votes on spam and what not

Anonymous
VLQ/NAA flags are meant for things that are not answers, and could never be answers. The review button is "Looks OK", not "This Answer Has No Flaws". It means "this answer is an answer, and is not very low quality", not "I have inspected this answer throroughly and found no problems with it". An answer looking OK and being invalid are not mutually exclusive.

Anonymous
Also, since the queue only shows the answer, and not the challenge, it's hard to judge whether or not it is valid - only whether or not it is an answer.

It shows the challenge

11:54 PM
@Mego The system actively works to make it as difficult to be helpful as possible. If I flag something that was not an answer as "not an answer" no one will ever see the answer except the completely apathetic review queue miners, meaning nothing would be done. In order to be helpful one has to have a complete working knowledge of the opaque bureaucratic mechanisms that work behind the scenes.

...you know 6 recommend delete reviews will delete something even if you don't have DV privileges right
review works

@Downsheep :| your avatar is still goat

you cannot expect mods to handle all NAAs, the review queues are there for a good reason
and these aren't "opaque." as pointed out above, a five second search would have yielded a great answer from Shog himself

@Unicode-only I can't go full evil :P

The review queues don't work everyone is just clicking through them as fast as they can so they can get more internet points

11:56 PM
you know about audits right
now granted they're more common on SO but still
(especially in Triage lol)

I've never seen an audit on this site and I've done nearly 2000 reviews.

that's probably because you actually take your time with your reviews
audits are triggered when you go quickly

And in my experience the audits on othersites are painfully obvious.

Anonymous
@user56656 That's blatantly, provably false.

Failing review audits is actually kind of commonplace
They can be very difficult if you get unlucky and miss some context
(on big sites that is, where there's more audit material)
