@Shaggy I'm not the culprit :P
But if you're looking for a post to review, is this clear enough?

@shaggy sort by oldest and keep going to the end

@cairdcoinheringaahing Nah 'cause then you have to guess where the deleted ones end
There are a couple thousand deleted answers

I can't see deletd posts tho so...

@MDXF I bet you could CSS hack the pagination, to get them all on one giant page

@StephenS I tried

4:01 PM
s/td/ted

it didn't work too well
I'll show you what it does

@MDXF Seems to be. Only thing I'd suggest clarifying is whether input and output can be separate; e.g., could I take input via an HTML field and output to console?

@Shaggy Yes, that's fine
I think
as long as it's in realtime

@MDXF "That's subjective"

Q: Infinite Scrolling - [Never Click Another Page Number Again!]

Nathan Osman About Have you ever been reading through a post on a Stack Exchange site with a lot of answers and you had to keep clicking the next page link? Wouldn't it be nice if you didn't have to do that? Well now you don't! Introducing Infinite Scrolling. Just keep scrolling down the page and the a...

@StephenS Realtime is not subjective
Either it's updated constantly or it's not

@MDXF I'd suggest including that fact in the question, so :)

I was answering "I think"

@Shaggy Yep I'm doing that :-)
Does You may use any reasonable methods of input and output as long as all other rules are followed. sound good?
Hundreds of challenges use "reasonable methods of input and output"

hello @nmjcman101!

4:04 PM
@MDXF Isn't that the default? IMO you don't need to say it

@StephenS Ehh just for clarity

@MDXF I think, in this case, you need to be more explicit about the fact that you don't necessarily need to overwrite the input; you can output elsewhere.

@Shaggy I think the second-to-last rule makes it clear what's acceptable in this case; None of the characters of s may appear on the screen, c excepted (see previous rule).
so yes, you may output elsewhere as long as the input is still invisible
But I'm pretty sure that's standard
@Mayube What language is that?!?

@MDXF python

@Mayube You're kidding

4:07 PM
it was HyperNeutrino's hydrocarbon parser thingy

but if it didn't recognize the hydrocarbon it outputted methane
so you could give it random inputs and it'd return methane
@MDXF nope

@Mayube hahahahaha

how can I see my deleted answers in the sandbox>

@cairdcoinheringaahing add deleted:1

4:11 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing Go to your Meta user profile, to the answers tab, and click "deleted recent answers" at the bottom

in search

@programmer5000 Oh that's easier

and golfier
than deleted:yes

too bad it didn't work

ooh rekt

4:13 PM
neither did deleted:yes

@MDXF I take it my HTML "solution" wouldn't be valid?!

@cairdcoinheringaahing Thank just @MDXF's way

@Shaggy Can you see the password as it's typed?

@programmer5000 I meant yours

@MDXF no

4:14 PM
Btw, does anyone know if there are any triangular 2-dimensional esolangs?

@MDXF pyramids

@MDXF :o I should delete that comment, so, lest someone nick it! :D

@cairdcoinheringaahing link?

can't find a link

4:15 PM
@Shaggy Probably xD

Nobody saw that comment, right?!

@KritixiLithos That works for me

@Shaggy I did not >.>

@Mayube Correct answer!

@Shaggy I did :P
All right I'm posting it

4:16 PM
Is there a way to install Fedora without a dvd or usb?

@Phoenix telepathic bluetooth

@KritixiLithos that doesn't show me the ones I'm looking for

@Phoenix Netboot?

@MDXF I don't know what that is but I'll look into it

@MDXF still need a disc or USB to put the netboot on though

4:17 PM
@Phoenix Neither do I
@Mayube Oh :I

@KritixiLithos Works

@programmer5000 doing it that way

@Phoenix basically rather than putting all the install files on a disc or USB, you use an installer that fetches all the files from the web

@Mayube It's not really any easier
but useful if you don't have enough storage space

I still like the idea of using telepathic bluetooth to install linux distros

4:18 PM
WUbuntu used to install directly from windows IIRC

My friend lent me a DVD but it's an already full write-once.

@nmjcman101 but everyone knows Xubuntu is the best *buntu

@nmjcman101 They dropped that, doesn't exist anymore.

WLS installs directly from windows :D

@Phoenix Ah, haven't tried in a while

4:19 PM
I'm on Ubuntu rn but I think it's time I switch to a better Distro

@Phoenix so Debian Sid?

@Mayube Fedora

@Phoenix but you said better distro

@Phoenix Apparently you can unetbootin the livecd to your hdd

@Mayube ಠ_ಠ

4:20 PM
Just use Slackware, everyone knows it's the best distro

@cairdcoinheringaahing I don't see your posts, have you undeleted them yet?

At least fedora has up to date software

Both my cow farts image, and the link explaining my cow farts image are on the starboard
@Phoenix so does Debian Sid???

@Mayube Naw Debian Sid typically has some outdated stuff

Ok the most random question: When you say something like one plus two times three is it usually (1+2)*3 or 1+(2*3)

4:23 PM
depends on the pacing

IDK if I should install Fedora 25 or 26

@ASCII-only I think it's usually (1+2)*3

@DigitalTrauma are you planing on deleting / posting this?

On the one hand 26 prolly has more cool features but on the other hand I don't want my computer to bork.

@ASCII-only typically 1 + (2*3), BIDMAS. Exception being if you add a slight pause after the 2

4:24 PM
@DJMcMayhem can you move the last comments about ubuntu to ubuntu.SE?

@programmer5000 I claim posting it if he doesn't :P
@programmer5000 Actually look at the comments
Yeah I removed the post as it was horrible and not well recived

@programmer5000 not yet
doing it now
my computer is slow

@cairdcoinheringaahing Was an f-bomb really necessary?

@MDXF should it be deleted? Edited to a non-existent "POSTED" link?

mine's probably slower - the one here at work is really slow :P
also probably wasn't needed, that swearing, but meh.

4:26 PM
@programmer5000 Probably deleted IMO

@MDXF you saw nothing

that message had just been flagged

that wasn't an invitation to flag either :P

@cairdcoinheringaahing ಠ_ಠ

[little edit]

4:27 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing could you undelete the answers now?

[swooshes cape dramatically, up up and awayyyy!]

@doppelgreener was just gonna remove that portion either way but meh

@ThomasWard oh fair :D

@ThomasWard Uhhhh...

@MDXF problem? (I only showed up because I saw that f-bomb drop)

4:29 PM
@ThomasWard Of course not :P

us moderators command the mystic arts of the Diamonds of Power - we can appear and disappear at will :P

oh wow I go to the toilet and when I come back there are two chat mods I've never seen before

@Mayube i'm actually here pretty frequently. I just lurk silently most of the time :p

@NewMainPosts Woot :D

4:31 PM
@ThomasWard creep :P

@Mayube I don't think calling a mod a creep is the best way to go :P

@MDXF I mean if his ability to read humour is that bad I imagine half the TNB regulars would be banned by now

some of us just don't care :P

@Mayube some of us diamonds also have a "Keep our hands mostly off the chat room" rule agreement with the PPCG mods.

4:32 PM
@programmer5000 I've done 2 and getting the other 2

which i believe is mostly true here :)
returns to lurking

@ThomasWard haha fair enough

@quartata do you have an alt source of the beginner's guide to the nethack source?
the webpage is down, the robots.txt means archive.org/similar didn't save it
I can't find one

@programmer5000 all undeleted. Do you want to add them to the chat room or should i?

4:35 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing for some reason, I don't see them. Go add them to the chat room (be sure to onebox)

@Riker mm nope

Challenge idea: Given a list of unique colour names as input, sort them in the order that they appear in Josepeh's Dreamcoat. Thoughts before I Sandbox it?

@quartata :/

You can ask me or @ais523 questions though

4:36 PM
@quartata where are the item probabilities stored?
for generating each type of item
I found it, lost it, and cna't find again

@Shaggy Could you provide a list the colors as they appear?

@programmer5000 Yes, that would obviously be included in the question.

@Riker it's part of objects.c

thanks
@Shaggy can you provide one here?

@Dennis @Doorknob comment nuke here please

4:40 PM
@Riker I'm just looking for feedback on the challenge idea first, before I put the work into writing it up for Sandbox. Off the top of my head, though, the first 8 are: red, yellow, green, brown, scarlet, black, ochre, peach. I think there are 29 altogether.

hm, then it's probably good
I didn't know if was more than the rainbow +white, black, brown

Just need to pick a song from Joseph now to work as a title - "Joseph's Coat" wouldn't be long enough. This gimmick I decided on of using song titles for all my challenges is gonna come back to bite me on the ass!

@programmer5000 Ehhh, I think it's fine.

> It is worth mentioning that the default configuration is SysV/Sun/Solaris2.x (simply because the code was housed on such a system)
why tho
lol

@programmer5000 posts added

4:43 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing thanks
@Doorknob Do you have any plans for this or can it be deleted?

@cairdcoinheringaahing also, the first 2 bits of the highest voted answer, I completely agree with, but not really the last one
I still upvted it for that tho
@programmer5000 probably best not to ping people regarding that
gonna get annoying fast

CMC: Given a /path/to/file f and int b, Append 0s to f until it has size b bytes. Assume f is initially smaller than b.
You must preserve the original content of the file at the start of the file.

Got that written up fr the Sanbox:

And that's me done for the day - have a good weekend, all :)

@programmer5000 IIRC I think someone already tried posting it and it failed. It's not a good challenge in its current state. I don't plan to do anything more with it.

@Shaggy Posted two suggestions on your latest post, just now. Have a look.

@Riker It was the 1980s bro
no Linux

How can I earn money with my programming skills without working full time?

Question: is reference counting or tracing GC better. Reference counting seem like obvious good idea but everyone use java and java use clunky tracing GC

There's no real answer to that

Java use 4 different GCs
Depends on context

@Riker Although I do still laugh when I see Linux referred to as "another UNIX clone" in source

is it just me or are you not supposed to have 2 noun phrase together

@Phoenix Nice challenge. Main it!

Sure thing

@Phoenix ._. I shouldn't be surprised but .______.

The name "Expand a file" is too short
Would "Enlargify a file" be acceptable

5:20 PM
@programmer5000 Instead of pinging multiple mods wrt something that could easily wait a few hours, please consider using the flag system. Note that Community will automatically flag the post if it gathers more than 20 comments in 3 days, so it isn't even necessary here.

Oh yay

@Phoenix cheddar: (f,b,l=IO.read('f').len)->{while(l--)IO.open(f,'w').write(0)}

Ah

Think this'll hit HNQ?

@MDXF Yes
I haven't looked at it yet but yes

... good? :P

5:24 PM
@MDXF i'll tell you why it'll hit hnq
because everybody will think you're trying to hack

@totallyhuman Oh because of the title?

yes that's what attracts people on the hnq

@totallyhuman no it's trivial questions that get 20 answers the moment it is posted

Then I'll leave it, I was thinking of clarifying it lol

(very rarely like 0.1% of the time it is an actual decent challenge imo)

5:26 PM
@Phoenix Should I still answer the CMC?

@Downgoat Sorta like this?

@programmer5000 Whoa that's impressive

I am being attacked by a wave of zombies! What to do?

Why is this not protected?
There are/were so many invalid answers

CMC : Given a CMC, solve it. (What will happen if this CMC is given to the solution of this CMC?)

@Arjun Stack overflow exception

@MDXF I would be happy to do so, but I think we need at least some consensus.

@programmer5000 I can protect too
I'd like to
but yeah, I don't want to just do it and then get my privileges revoked

Star if you think this should be protected. @MDXF wants to protect it, it has alot of invalid answers, but consensus is wanted.

@programmer5000 could you include in that message that I'll protect it maybe?

Sorry for starbait

@programmer5000 I could protect but the mods and all keep unprotecting it so sem like bad idea

@Downgoat Oh really?

@MDXF @Downgoat meta post worthy

Oh yeah it does keep getting unprotected

@MDXF APL: ⎕CLEAR

I have no idea why

@Arjun Chrome, 60 bytes: https://chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/240/the-nineteenth-byte

@MDXF -1 has extranous output which is not allow

@Downgoat Yeah, it was only valid for a couple seconds. :(

@Downgoat That's what I was going to say.
@MDXF -1

@ATaco can you make userscript that allows us to downvote chat message

@DJMcMayhem No it was never valid because as soon as you sent it it was invalid

5:52 PM
@MDXF It was valid when he pressed Enter

@MDXF Maybe it was valid while packet's were travelling from DJ's computer to SE server
