I made that language I was talking about 1/2 days ago, but something horrifying happened. When making a function, the function name is at the bottom DX

@Midnightas what's the language?

@charredgrass Are you asking the name? Or the link?

Either, just curious about what you're doing, always like hearing about people making new languages

Here you go: https://github.com/lvivtotoro/hashmap/
I plan on changing the name, since I stole it from a Java class name.

> null == undefined
true
:(

10:06 AM
Ooh cool

thanks
@TùxCräftîñg Aww, that's gotta be annoying

@TùxCräftîñg if you are comparing null and undefined I think you might have a bigger issue
also try typeof a === "undefined"

oh wow, and typeof a === "null" is false!

And instead of using == in this case, use ===
null === undefined
is false

Question. What is "==="?

10:09 AM
It also checks the type of the things to compare.

It's a JS thing. == casts then compares
=== checks to see if they are EXACTLY the same

for instance 3 == "3" is true but 3 === "3" is false

In the programming language I'm going to make, there are going to be multiple layers:
Program => Registers => Stack => Tape
what is another layer I can use?

:30927568

10:12 AM
That language sounds pretty neat

oh wait

do you have it on git or anythign?

Operative word being going
also, going is a bit misleading

2 hours ago, by Destructible Watermelon
I am making a programming language, where the commands manipulate registers, which in turn manipulate a stack, which in turn manipulate a tape.

Making, meaning it isn't made yet

10:13 AM
> ({}) != {}
true

I apologise for being unclear

because JS.

It's still in the idea development stage
What should the name be?

@TùxCräftîñg And (![]) is "false"
@DestructibleWatermelon You should make a poll and ask people

also there will be unicode commands
because unicode -_(ツ)_-

10:15 AM
-(ツ)-

Like ģ, ኄ, ္, 𣠷

this smiley is ugly without monospace

no more like ☃
the snowman

10:16 AM
OR... a
That's unicode, too

what about U+202e?

why is he wearing a fez

NON BREAKING SPACES
Oh wait, no thats a right-to-left override
ey, Guys
‮Hey, Guys

actually, I was thinking the dice

Technically, you could put diacritics in. but why?

a thing like a accent to put under a expression to print
of increment/decrement

@DestructibleWatermelon what are you writing it in?

⚀______________________________⚀

10:20 AM
I only know python. It's still in the making the spec stage though
all the program will consist of is dice

ኻ WTF

or perhaps something else, because it might be cool to be "usuable" for golf

Cool. I'm writing a new language too, it's a JS based emoji spam languae

how will the syntax work?

10:21 AM
i am creating a apl dialect
in JS

@charredgrass howdoesthesyntaxworkineedtoknowtellme
maybe i'll use extended ascii
hmm, I'm not sure whether to use pretty unicode, or compact ascii
<(-_- )
hmmm

there is a way to have tuples in JS ?

@DestructibleWatermelon My language is just going to be a JS interpreter, so it will translate the code from EmoJiS (that's what I'm calling it) to normal JS and run that
My dream is to one day be in the esolang wiki

You know you just make a page there for your language?
that's how it works
most of the pages are made by the creators
Don't let your dreams be dreams

10:30 AM
oh
duh, it's a wiki :P

just make a page

ok, my goal is for it to one day be used in golf

Beware, you may get brickbrained if you post a brainfuck derivative

1 + 2 + 3 4 is interpreted like 1 + 2 + 4 .____________________________.

10:34 AM
yup

What is up with javascript?

it seems as idiosyncratic as a golfing lang, yet still being general purpose

hey dont hate on JS

@TùxCräftîñg How much memory do you have?

10:43 AM
@LegionMammal978 8GB
i have a average of 4GB of memory usage

@TùxCräftîñg What are you running on that box!?
I have 16GB and average 1GB used

@LegionMammal978 N++, firefox, file explorer, steam, origin, bluestacks, bullgard, etc...

@TùxCräftîñg Windows?

I have decided on using the large unicode characters.

10:46 AM
you mean >U+FFFF ?

I mean ones that are larger than ascii

as opposed to one byte per char

so >U+FF

Yeah, I set my computer up so it'd run Ubuntu then got Mathematica for Linux so I'd stop using Win7 (this was still ~2014) all the time.

10:47 AM
and it would also be really funny to see legitimate code golf with like, 1000 bytes

@LegionMammal978 I'm finally releasing my search github.com/schas002/cgol-search

for an answer where java gets 300, as comparison

@LegionMammal978 i must use windows because games ._.

^, have to reboot all the time to swap :(

I must use Windows because modem ._.

10:48 AM
why modem ?

you know, I had the idea of calling it codeception, but that seems to obvious and stupid in general

My only mean of home Internet is an USB modem which only has drivers/controllers for Windows.

you have a modem that only work on windows .__.

10:50 AM
WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF‌FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF‌FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF‌FFF

@TùxCräftîñg Yeah.

for me it's even worst. i have a D-Link modem

@TùxCräftîñg What's that?

what's what ?

10:51 AM
A D-Link modem

a modem manufactured by d-link

but d-link modems are sh*t

But yeah, I have literally no idea which modem I'm using, just that it's connected to a router that's connected to another router which sends signals trough the power lines which I then use an adapter to pick up and convert to Ethernet on my end and the Ethernet cable is just plugged into the back of my box
Keyword: Ethernet

10:55 AM
Hey, at least it works on things other than Windows

._________________________________.

(And it's wired)

Used to have this adapter (which connected to a router which connected to a router which connected to my modem):
Was much slower than Ethernet over Power Lines (EoPL?) ;p

here, have an inside joke

10:58 AM
i have a DLink DWR-921. the connection is very unstable, but at least it's not a security hole

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 what is your github account ? schas002 or zyabinVI ?

@DestructibleWatermelon In your language, you have registers which manipulate a stack which manipulates a tape, but for a 2-register Minsky machine to be Turing-Complete, the proof requires 2 registers to manipulate 4 (virtual) registers to manipulate 2 stacks to manipulate a tape.

@TùxCräftîñg My personal account is schas002.

11:05 AM
ok

zyabinVI is my experimenting organization.

@LegionMammal978 shhhhh

@DestructibleWatermelon Don't worry, Minsky machines have only 2 commands and are a real pain to use

anyway, that is only used in the proof
correct?

11:06 AM
Yeah, but it's pretty much the only way to represent a tape

there is only the two registers, where as in mine, there is no emulation of the stack, it is actually a part of the language
I could make it more layered with more stacks etc
but that wouldn't really be adding anything, only extending the idea until it's worn out

A WILD @DOORKNOB HAS APPEARED

@DestructibleWatermelon With enough abstraction, a Minsky machine could emulate any Turing-computable data structure

Graham's number is an unimaginably large number that is an upper bound on the solution to a certain problem in Ramsey theory. It is named after mathematician Ronald Graham who used the number as a simplified explanation of the upper bounds of the problem he was working on in conversations with popular science writer Martin Gardner. Gardner later described the number in Scientific American in 1977, introducing it to the general public. The number was published in the 1980 Guinness Book of World Records which added to the popular interest in the number. Graham's number, although smaller than TREE...

@El'endiaStarman Thats an interesting idea=)

11:47 AM
@El'endiaStarman What we are doing is we consider the orthogonal projection of a point on the plane to the curve. If there are multiple orthogonal projections, we consdier the one that is closest.
And orthogonal ir referring in this case is just the standard scalar product.

Error: OverflowException: The number you are trying to reach is too large for the datatype BigInteger

@aditsu Ohh, I'd like a nice game of Go.

wanna play? KGS?

I don't have a KGS.
Maybe in the chat Sandbox?

you can't have "a KGS"
KGS is a server where we can play

11:52 AM
Just an idea: Instead of looking at the ellipse, consider the ellipse as the image of a circle under a linear transformation. In this case we can diagonal linear transformations of the form [[1,0],[0,s]] where s is some scaling factor. So if we consider the scalar product under this transformation (which is again a scalar product). That might be easier to consider.

you can download and run the jar file

@aditsu I don't have Java.

oh ><
you can install java.. or we can play elsewhere

@aditsu In the chat Sandbox?

how would we play in chat?!
just type the move coordinates?
