Nah, I'm still trying to sort out the test cases when the fraction in negative or >= 1. May try a different algorithm altogether.

At least I can contribute to the SO docs for Processing (since nobody else really bothers to complete Processing's docs)

About suspensions for hat abuse: how wll Dennis confiscate the abused hat(s)?

Also, my, I woke up and you are already some hours (and 9 hats) in? 'o'

Hello all, I have a couple of posts in sandbox meta, I don't know if I should delete them or post, can you give me your opinion? This is one: meta.codegolf.stackexchange.com/a/10800/59718

9:31 AM
@Mario Will the image also be given as input?

Can we take the matrix as input or does it have to be created in the function? If the latter, that would be the bulk of the challenge

Yes, the user have to get the image as input and output what is asked in the challenge

specifically that image or would a matrix containing the same numbers work?

I mean, one can not hardcode the matrix, but have to OCR it

9:34 AM
We need one more player for Fourtune

@JarkoDubbeldam yes the image is always the same

Also, "5 positive integer comma separated numbers", I think requiring comma separated input is somewhat restrictive to some languages.
I meant if we have to read an image file, or if numerical input is allowed?

@JarkoDubbeldam the input is the jpg file, no numerical input (or hardcoding the matrix as well)
@jar
@JarkoDubbeldam how can I improve the input?

Well, I am not sure if all languages support comma separated input (say brainfuck for example), so I would suggest saying "Your goal is to write a full program or function that takes from standard input 5 positive integers as 16,11,20,22,3 where:"

Maybe something like "takes 5 positive integers as input in any reasonable format"
[X1,Y1], [X2,Y2], N is probably more logical than a comma separated string in most languages
and the challenge is about parsing the image afaik, so putting a limitation on the numerical input seems overly restrictive

9:44 AM
Also, I kinda agree with this comment: "It's still going to be easier to "pre-OCR" the image and just store the individual numbers."
There are two parts of this challenge
reading the image and interpreting the numbers, and then figuring the correct count
the second is not that hard in most languages, so I guess the challenge is indeed mostly reading the image
(and honestly, I have no idea how I would tackle that, but that's not really relevant)

Thanks, I edited the input part. I also added as rules " - You must take as input this [JPG file]. - You are not allowed to hardcode the matrix of numbers represented in the JPG."

But as to your question of adding more complexity, it depends on what exactly you want to be hard in this challenge.
Also, I would suggest the image-processing tag :P

@JarkoDubbeldam my question in adding more complexity, was as answer to ais523, I don't think it needs to be more complicated than it is...
Yes I added the image-processing tags, but only at the top of the post, forgot to replicated at the bottom :)

Sorry, im blind :P

it's ok, me too :)

I'm bored

@betseg Come and join Fourtune

@Emigna I changed the input. Do you think it is enough good to post it?

Wait how do chatbots even work

@Qwerp-Derp How do you work? It's the same principle.
Erm... That came out wrong...

@wizzwizz4 :O the secrets have been unravelled

9:56 AM
The bots just send the same traffic that your web browser does.

How does the questions chatbot post newly posted questions onto the chat

@Qwerp-Derp It reads the feed.
I'll get a screenshot of the page.

I'm thinking of incorporating that into one of my chat rooms for a game

@Qwerp-Derp Room Owners can create feeds, if I'm not mistaken.

9:58 AM
I don't have much (read: any) experience of being a room owner from before I automatically had those powers everywhere, so I'm not sure which things are RO and which are Mod.

@Mario In the first section where the input is specified I feel like it should be mentioned that the image is part of the input (I know it's specified in the rule section in the bottom). Otherwise I feel as if the challenge is clearly defined. Might be a good idea to get input from more people though.

@El'endiaStarman wtf

@trichoplax I too had that difficulty when I first started work. I quickly learned that the Command key plus the arrow keys work similarly (Fn + arrow keys also does useful stuff).

Now awaiting for the new "20!" hat. :3

macOS really is the best for programming
@El'endiaStarman sometimes a big click hitbox is nice

12:54 PM
@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC Uh no

Let's not get into that battle

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC Eh, I wouldn't say that just yet (and I'm using a Mac for work).

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC You can avoid getting into battles by avoiding making conflict inducing claims...
@El'endiaStarman Oh that's alright then. Buttons with different names doesn't bother me, as long as there's still a way...

On Windows, each separate window instance of the same program can be Alt+Tab'd to separately, but on Macs, you have to do Cmd+Tab to the program and then Cmd+~ to switch windows.

There's a single command that installs coreutils, gcc, git and all of the devtools.
I like the swipe left/right functionality.

One thing's for sure: Macs are not as user-friendly as I expected. Especially as a long-time user of Windows, I was surprised to find that there were a few one-step commands in Windows that just weren't there on Macs.

Also, can we stop posting carrots, please?

> It's hearing, Jim. But not as we know it.

@ErikGolferエリックゴルファー Yes, I'm actually deaf.
Though I do have cochlear implants, which enable me to hear well enough that sometimes people don't realize at all.

Sorry that you have to experience such a problem.

1:03 PM
Huh. The GOL Tetris question receive a lot of spam

@TuxCopter Two spam answers in three years is a lot?
(Well, relative to other questions, I suppose so.)

Wait, this question is that old?
o_O

And still unanswered

"I am deaf" -> "I have bionic ears."

Actually, they're just a little over a year, not 3 years. 3 years is when the question was asked.

1:05 PM
@ErikGolferエリックゴルファー Yeah, that's what I'm saying. In the three years it's been around, it's gotten two spam answers.

@KritixiLithos Pretty normal seeing the difficulty of the thing :P

That's how Community got the Abominable, by deleting those answers

@El'endiaStarman It's isn't normal for a question to have spam answers at all though, is it?

Also a bit rude.

1:11 PM
@ErikGolferエリックゴルファー: Please don't delete legitimate messages like that one. Especially if it's been responded to.

"We wish you a merry... uh ... collecting hats."

@El'endiaStarman I don't think that was "legitimate" anyways though.

3
Q: Output integers in negative order, increase the maximum integer everytime

devRicherMain task Your task is to print out integers in descending order, starting from 1, and increasing as you keep hitting 1 again, up until the given input is reached, then, print out the rest until you hit 1 again. Example with input 6: 1 21 321 4321 54321 654321 Without newlines: 12132143215432165...

@ErikGolferエリックゴルファー Sure it was. It wasn't spam or noise.

Oh that is what you mean, I have a bit different definition of "legitimate" though. I naturally tend to delete messages that attract too much negative replies, so that they stop increasing in number, but I will stop if that's considered wrong. I just wanted to make the room more positive, no big deal I guess?

1:18 PM
@ErikGolferエリックゴルファー Stop. Wait. Breathe. No big deal. Getting rude now.

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC Huh? There was nothing rude in the message he just posted.
@ErikGolferエリックゴルファー The issue with deleting messages, especially those with replies, is that other people can't follow the conversation anymore. Most people actually can't even see the fact that there was a message deleted (unless they were in the room at the time) and they certainly can't see what was said. So you (meaning "people in this room") end up seeing fragmented parts of a conversation, which is very irritating for many.

I'll second that. Lots of us are wrong in chat every so often. Further discussion shows us why. There's no need to delete the initial message.

@El'endiaStarman I will then start editing the message to (removed), removing any pings, but not actually removing it I guess. I still want to hide the content of the message at first glance. Is that optimal?

@ErikGolferエリックゴルファー Editing it to (removed) isn't all that much better.

Yeah, but people can still see the history of the message to learn what exactly happened.

1:24 PM
Having the initial message present is useful, as it makes the subsequent discussion meaningful.

I hate to be on the other side of the scale, but can we stop putting so much emphasis on deleted comments? I feel like it's getting to the point where people are going to be afraid to delete them even if they had a perfectly good reason.

@Sp3000 I think I have an idea of what you mean by "perfectly good reason", but could you clarify on that? Stuff like pointing out typos?

Well I guess the "perfectly good reason" part is subjective, but sometimes I post something and realise it was wrong immediately after I post it, or feel embarassed/ashamed about something I said that could be taken the wrong way
I would agree that a user who consistently deletes comments making conversation hard to follow would be a problem, but I don't think we need to point it out in every isolated incident

@Sp3000 For the former, that's why I say stuff like "especially if it's been replied to". If there's an isolated deleted message with no replies, it's hard to know that there ever was a message. As for the latter, I suppose that's a fairly good/valid reason to delete messages. That said, a better course of action would be to think a little more before posting.

Yeah, I have to admit I actually agree with ^.

1:32 PM
@ErikGolferエリックゴルファー Hey, how come I get banned for using carrots but you don't?
lol

@veryRandomMe A carrot is a message which is basically only comprised of ^.

true
but it's the same as typing"I agree"

@Sp3000 I think you're right that we don't need to point it out every single time. On the other hand, a couple times, I've noticed myself wishing in hindsight that I had waited 2 minutes before responding just so the person I'm responding to can't delete their message.

The same works for starring messages that look funny out of context :P

@ErikGolferエリックゴルファー Technically, the ^ symbol is called a caret, so "carrot" became a synonym for them in TNB.

1:34 PM
@veryRandomMe But it's spammy. You don't downvote without commenting, and you certainly don't leave comments consisting entirely of "+1". So why do you leave carrot-only messages?

@trichoplax Depends where you hail from . . .
@wizzwizz4 To show agreement, this is not a string of comments about a specific post, rather a long continued discussion that people may want to agree with one thing or another without re-stating it

(I have something to show, so as always, ping me when the discourse finishes, okay?)

@veryRandomMe TNB had a bad rash of caret chains and caret overuse a while back, so we've cracked down on them considerably. In your case, you immediately responded to Erik's request that not so many carets be posted with a message composed solely of a bunch of carets.

ok
well, it was sorta snarky
sry

That's alright. So long as you learned the lesson.
