12:04 AM
TIO v2???
:0 :D

12:20 AM
I like the button that does nothing but make an animation run

@DestructibleWatermelon If you pick a language and enter some code, it should actually do something.

1:01 AM
@Dennis doesn't seem to

Works fine here. tio.run/#eGLop

@Dennis not for me. unless it actually takes a couple minutes
first bug?

@Dennis how do I run stuff?

Huh. What browser are you using?

ok
Maybe we should take into account the possibility I'm using the wrong button?

1:04 AM
@arda Pick a language, enter code, click the wheel.

I definitely clicked the wheel...

@Dennis just rotates...
And I pressed it like a minute ago

It's night, woke up, can't sleep, wheel doesn't work.

Browsers, please.

@Dennis ff49.0.2

1:09 AM
@Dennis Android 6.0, Chrome 54

@betseg I slept at 5pm and woke at 9pm, drunk a lot of coffee, and I can't sleep either.

Indeed, it doesn't seem to work with Firefox. Gah.

I'm stupid.
I forgot the last slash on sed
That's why there was no output

@betseg s/stupid/smart

If you expand Debug, you can see error messages.

1:12 AM
no errors

Interesting. Debug showed nothing before.

also slightly annoying that you can't move through the code with cursor keys

@DestructibleWatermelon No, I mean for sed. The Firefox problem is somethign else.

@DestructibleWatermelon You what?!? Another Firefox problem...

1:14 AM
@DestructibleWatermelon also can't select it with mouse

Is Firefox the next IE/Safari?

wumpus hunting is fun

@dennis feature request: bc for shells

Yeah. It's a more or less bare Fedora install. Didn't even have Perl or Ruby...

1:32 AM
Well, cursor keys and mouse are fixed.
Ah, the inability to run code is Firefox's fault, not mine. bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=312971
But it wouldn't work in IE anyway, so I'll have to do something else. sighs
@DestructibleWatermelon @arda I still have to iron out some bugs with language selection, but running code, cursor keys, and selecting with the mouse should work now.

@Dennis Why would you bother with IE?

At least the latest version of all major browsers should be supported. I'm not sure why, but that includes IE.

wtf
IE is discontinued

It also wouldn't work in Edge.
I think. I can't really try.

1:47 AM
agh
I was about to say I could but I'm in Ubuntu right now :p

I don't think I even want to know. :P

could as in try out Edge
and find teh bugz

I can try if you'd like

Um, sure.

Okey doke

1:54 AM
@Dennis sleek UI
@Dennis perhaps you are overloaded, but I'd love it if the current state of the screen was maintained on refresh. Aka, which tabs I have open, the language I have selected, and the input in each of the fields

That shouldn't be too hard.

the power of cookies

localStorage, but yeah.
Yee-haw, language selection works in FF.

alright, trying it in edge right now

@DrMcMoylex that's Edgy

2:03 AM
Ha. Ha, ha.

:D

@Dennis It seems fine to me. Anything in particular you'd like me to try?

Language selection (starting to type should filter through them) and running code (let's try tio.run/#eGLop).

Yup, seems fine to me

\o/ That's great news. Thanks!

2:07 AM
Edge worked for something?!
and it didn't hang?
@Downgoat hai gaot

Yeah, I was surprised to. :P

@Zacharee1 hai .o/
@Dennis :O is this TIO v2

It is.

:O cool!
though not sure what buttons do :|

Most do nothing. :P Gear is run, stack of servers is store.

2:09 AM
Hey @Downgoat! Do you have a few minutes to help me understand how to use babel for Crayon?

Tried IE 6 through 11 on netrenderer.com/index.php. Looks like TIO v2 could work in IE 11, but the rest...

also +1 for golfed domain :P

@Dennis On the TIO language list page can you add a note that says how many languages are supported? Then it's easier to tell people "this website can run X many languages!"

Sure.

also, is this logo still a thing?:
I'm fine with the current logo, just curious

2:16 AM
It's a bit too big, unfortunately. The current logo barely fits on a mobile screen.
It also doesn't really combine with the new site, which doesn't use that font anymore.

It's kind of hard to tell the current logo is initials unless you really look, imo

@Dennis if you'd like I could send you an svg with just the cloud

@Calvin'sHobbies Looks like TD Bank :p

Yes, the first thing I thought when I saw that logo was "What's TD stand for? Oh..."

@Downgoat Thanks, but you already sent me the SVG. Taking out the text should be straightforward.

2:19 AM
oh :| >_>

@Dennis it looks kinda clustred
cluttered

How could I unclutter it?

I think you should separate the I and O
I know it kind of breaks the design, but then it won't look like a D

you could make each letter a different shade of grey
and I was actually referring to the website

@ConorO'Brien that'd be interesting
oh lol

2:23 AM
^^^^ that would look cool i think
@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC O___O

@Zacharee1 I tried separating the letters, but it requires too much horizontal space, and I can't shake the feeling that it looks like just three letters, not a logo.

also, tooltips would be great

@ConorO'Brien I got that. What would you change?

@Dennis hmm. Well try the shades of gray (heheh) for it

textarea, input[type=text], .language-list {
  margin: 15px;
}
that makes it look a little bit better
maybe 10px instead of 15px tho
also, do you have some sort of JS running on the textareas? it makes typing fast in them quite slow to update
@ConorO'Brien of course, you'd need to fix the width as well

2:27 AM
@ConorO'Brien hm :/ not for me

self-replies always crack me up

@ConorO'Brien Yeah, the textareas resize automatically with their content. That's not a problem over here though. What browser?

@Dennis firefox. also, make sure to do the resize check onpageload

@Dennis You could nest the O in the I in the T

scratch taht last suggestion, it works now?

2:28 AM
^^ not a great depiction but something like that

okay scratch my complaints about the textboxes. It must have had something to do with me editting the CSS

@DrMcMoylex Do they?
@Zacharee1 He says they do

It would be nice if the messages panel didn't cover over the GUI. I don't think there's any good way to do that though

@Zacharee1 That cracks me up

2:32 AM
When I press the gear, it says "Something bad happened...check console for details" (and it has copying disabled ಠ_ಠ), and there's nothing in the console

Same for me.

there also doesn't seem to be a way to dismiss a single message?

The message thing was hastily implemented today. I'll add that.

alright, cool
how does one run a program?

@Dennis Or use the fact that I O can look like 1 and 0 and make it T + <on off switch thingy>

2:35 AM
oh, that sounds cool

That sounds interesting.
@ConorO'Brien In theory, you pick a language, enter some code, and click the gear. If that doesn't work, please share a permalink or a screenshot.

@Dennis ah.

Or like 1 and 0 on a Turing machine tape

@Calvin'sHobbies Do that for sure @Dennis

some words might be nice
(on the gear, say. or, at least a tooltip)

2:37 AM
It always bothers me when TVs use I/O, but the O is the I/O symbol

stack snippets can communicate with other websites, right?

@Dennis some feedback: I think the "store" icon should just be a floppy disk, because right now it's not completely clear.

@NathanMerrill You can do GET requests, sure

like

Also, you should probably compile your JS to ES5 because my browser borks on the ES6

2:38 AM
come on, that's not right

@Calvin'sHobbies not POST?
(not that that is a huge issue)

@Downgoat ES6?

@Dennis yeah that doesn't work, as per:
6 mins ago, by Conor O'Brien
When I press the gear, it says "Something bad happened...check console for details" (and it has copying disabled ಠ_ಠ), and there's nothing in the console

Well, I need to see what you entered.

@ConorO'Brien I get that message too, but only when there's no language entered.

2:40 AM

@Dennis The gear is run? I assumed it was settings

I don't seem to be able to use any mouse controls on any of the input boxes. Is this intentional? (Using Firefox 49)
(other than clicking on a box to focus it)

and I can't ctrl+backspace
same browser

isn't it alt+bksp?
oh wait, that's left arrow :p

@Calvin'sHobbies That's what I thought too, actually.

2:43 AM
@NathanMerrill You can do whatever JS will normally let you do (just be aware of cross site scripting limits)

cool
considering I'll own the server I'll be communicating with, I shouldn't have any problems

@ConorO'Brien Well, you deleted the I/O part. tio.run/#CrdPS

who needs that?

oh
well no wonder

@ETHproductions I really should have tested this in Firefox first... Gah!

2:48 AM
What on earth would prevent mouse controls though?

.preventDefault()?

My superb CSS abilities.

Oh
Would that be the -moz-user-select: auto; part, or something else?

In Android, iOS, and Windows 10, a gear symbol always means settings afaik. I'd really suggest a play-button shape like most IDE's have @Dennis
Well, maybe not always, but usually .-.

@Dennis default function params

2:53 AM
^^^

@ETHproductions Yeah, that. It somehow doesn't get applied to the textareas.

Awkward moment when your phone supports more ES6 than your computer

@Downgoat OK, I'll get rid of those. What browser doesn't support them though?

@Dennis According to kangax.github.io/compat-table/es6, Edge 13, all versions of IE, and Safari 9.

3:02 AM
@ETHproductions That should finally be fixed. FF thinks auto is inherit. >_>

Yep, works for me :)

Question: If I call f(x, y) as f("foo"), is y undefined in ES5 as well or is that still an ES6 thing?

Yes, it's undefined in all versions.

OK, those are gone then.
@Calvin'sHobbies I had a play button initially, but the gear looked much nicer on my low-res display.
I hoped nobody would expect a settings button on the left.

:O you made web app in 2016 without react!

3:09 AM
Without what?

Personally, I think the icon itself says a lot more than its position on the page.

@Dennis react.js

Ugh, libraries.

it's very good
@Dennis it's cool part, JSX is transpiled so no libraries

3:10 AM
I don't write much js but even I heard of it.

@Downgoat Are you still interested in helping me with Crayon?

The current draft has been made with nothing but a text editor. I even did the SVGs by hand.

@ETHproductions sure
perhaps hide "messages" on smaller screens?

@Downgoat I try to go library-less as often as possiblr

3:12 AM
react isn't library

@Downgoat Great :) I'm just checking because you haven't responded to any of my pings in the Crayon room over the last few days (and you seemed to miss one in TNB a little while ago)

i mean depends on your defintion
@ETHproductions oh >_>
im not good with pings
as in i probably see them but forget them in around 15 seconds

That's fine, I understand forgetting about things :P

@Downgoat The messages won't show up by default when alpha is over. I wanted to make sure everyone knew not to use v2 for permalinks. After that, they'll only pop up when something went wrong.

ah ok

3:14 AM
I'll probably set a localStorage thingie though so every user is only notified once.
They're already getting on my nerves.

I need help

@Dennis btw, are you planning on changing the design of TIO v2? I'm planning on creating userscript for lighter color scheme.

With something specific or in general?
@Downgoat Define design.

for my koth, the game ends when both artifacts get destroyed

@Downgoat ew, lighter color scheme?

3:15 AM
@Dennis i.e. DOM structure

@Zacharee1 white color scheme > black color scheme :P

@Downgoat if you like being blind'

;_;

3:16 AM
@Downgoat That will definitely change when I add support for polyglots, graphical output, etc.

I could do while artifacts != 0 or something, and change the thing within the class of the artifacts, but global variables are evil or something

@Zacharee1 your monitor is way too bright if that's a risk

@ArtOfCode when it's dark or you just want to avoid eye strain

@ConorO'Brien O_O

The solution to that isn't dark colour schemes... It's get better lighting

3:17 AM
I'm very sensitive to light, so that may explain my preference for dark color schemes.

@ArtOfCode yes, on my laptop, which I bring around to other locations
lemme just get my portable bias lighting
seriously though, darker backgrounds mean less eye strain and fatigue

@Zacharee1 solution: lower laptop brighness
(or display)

@Zacharee1 LED strip on the back of the monitor. Or just sit in front of a window.

@Downgoat then I can't read anything

wat
guys
i made a modded minecraft server

3:19 AM
@ArtOfCode it's a laptop o_O
@wat wat

wat
It's running FTB Infinity Lite and the address is mc.dkudriavtsev.xyz

Seriously, better lighting is better for your eyes than darker schemes

@wat wat is ftb infinity lite

@Downgoat I tried that, but my laptop's screen doesn't get very dark. I have it on full darkness all the time, and I can see it perfectly fine except in sunlight

@Zacharee1 it is bigger problem tbh if you have trouble reading black text on white background

3:19 AM
I can't stand light color schemes. I've written 7 custom dark styles and counting for various websites and applications, and I have at least a dozen other dark themes for websites where I found ones already written by other people.

wat
@DestructibleWatermelon modpack

@wat to be pedantic, that ain't an IP ;P

@wat wat is in mod pack?

It's definitely a personal thing, though. Several of my friends saw my dark theme for the school website and immediately say "what, that's so much worse!"

3:20 AM
how install mods on minecraft to play?

get the FTB launcher

New idea: I'll add a dark scheme option to my byte counter

wat
@DestructibleWatermelon what OS?

3:21 AM
@ArtOfCode Every person is different. I can't drive without sunglasses, even if it's cloudy. I can't look at a computer screen for too long, unless the color scheme is dark. With a light background, I have to dim the brightness to a point where it becomes difficult to read.

wat
warning: zip download
@Dennis Do you use a Kindle?

Here's the thing. Light themes are just annoying. It's a really bright screen, with darker text to read, and after a while, that causes pain. I spend a lot of time on my computer: dark with light text is much easier on the eyes.

@Dennis same. Except the drive bit. I don't drive.

@Dennis sure, but in medical optometric terms, better light is better than darker colours

Tell that to the sun.

3:23 AM
The sun is awesome light :)

I used to have issues with reading books on my phone so I bought a kobo aura and it made reading ebooks much much easier.

wat
Is there a way to "splice" stdin/stdout to a running process?

@wat No.

wat
:(

I'd happily add a few color schemes though. I want lots of things to be customizable. Maybe dark, light, and hotdog.

3:24 AM
If you could do everything in pure natural sunlight, your eyes would love you

@Dennis Hotdog is definitely a must.

@ArtOfCode If I'm exposed to pure natural sunlight, I need sunglasses or my eyes start to hurt, then my head.

@ArtOfCode strain can be caused by a large difference in light from the screen and from what's behind the screen. One way to fix that is to light everywhere I go a lot. Another way is just to use darker colors, which is way more portable. Also, white backgrounds just straight up hurt my eyes.
@Dennis are you a ginger? (hair)

No.

huh

3:25 AM
@Zacharee1 he has perfectly yellow hair, duh.

hur hur

@Dennis you may be an edge case :)

I lived with terrible headaches for years (every since I was a child), until I finally realized the light was the problem.
Not saying I'm not an edge case. I also can't have sugar or ibuprofen.

wat
@Dennis The new TIO logo looks like "TD"

3:27 AM
@wat we've been through this :p

wat
have you?

scroll up

@Zacharee1 yeah, darker backgrounds decrease strain, I'm not disputing that - but lighting your surroundings correctly decreases strain more.

@ArtOfCode but that's almost never a possibility in practical situations
sure, I could set up my desktop with super bright LED strips
but I can't exactly do that everywhere I am

There are USB LED strips intended for the backs of laptop screens. But yeah, I take the point.

3:29 AM
@ArtOfCode then I need a wall :p
are there also walls to stick to the back of my laptop? :p :P

wat
@Zacharee1 Donald Trump can supply one

lol

Depends. Sometimes you do, sometimes you don't

Question: How do they all manage to hire the exact same person to write the preceding instructions on 99.97% of standardized tests?

Of course, the best artificial method would be to light everything up dark red, and have your computer do everything on a dark red variations colour scheme.
also slightly impractical.

3:31 AM
@ΛεγίωνΜάμμαλϠΟΗʹ why should they be the same?

@ΛεγίωνΜάμμαλϠΟΗʹ They hired him back in 1977 and now they're just copying those same instructions for all tests

@ConorO'Brien Exact same instructions, down to the wording
@ETHproductions ...that explains everything!
ima go

hmm... are ansi escape codes turing complete?

3:34 AM
what a shame
let's find a way to make them TC :P

At most, they can emulate a FSM

ginger dennis

...

lol

@Dennis yeah, I only have the mac equivalent of paint

3:37 AM
The quality of the picture really wasn't what triggered the ellipses.

wat
@Dennis ellipses

Yes?

Q: Introducing KoTHComm: A framework for your King of the Hill challenges

Nathan MerrillI'd like to introduce KoTHComm. I've been working on this for many months now, and I feel like its at a (somewhat) stable point. @Calvin'sHobbies Something like this? tryitonline.net

3:43 AM
@Dennis Yeah :) (or at the bottom if it looks in the way)

I'll leave it there for now. The front page needs an overhaul anyway. But first things first.
I seem to be missing something.

> Do you plan on porting this to other languages?

Short and sweet. :P

@Dennis I thought you didn't want/like vim

Just checked if it was there. Fedora Cloud comes with a very limited set of tools.

YpnypnGiven a polynomial, determine whether it's prime. A polynomial is ax^n + bx^(n-1) + ... + dx^3 + ex^2 + fx + g, where each term is a constant number (the coefficient) multiplied by a nonnegative integer power of x. @Dennis Liking the new TIO look although it doesn't really seem to work on mobile
I feel like some tooltips would help a lot
Also I feel like the Header and Footer "drawers" should be moved to separate lines; feels a bit cluttered where it is

The SVGs look particularly amazing

Can anyone review my thing?

@Qwerp-Derp maybe help with the koth?
