@RikerW I think they can be #Fun, but I wouldn't want them used as part of a "business" or other serious application

@RikerW His religion is Judaism. :P

Okay, brb finding golfed python code.

But also he works for Dyalog, so the APL mindset is pretty much required. :P

@AlexA. Yes, and he puts APL at its level.
@AlexA. True.

> Simply ask yourself the following questions. To be on-topic the answer must be "yes" to all questions:

Is code included directly in my question? (See Make sure you include your code in your question below.)
Am I an owner or maintainer of the code?
Is it actual code from a project rather than pseudo-code or example code?
Do I want the code to be good code? (i.e. not code-golfing, obfuscation, or similar)
To the best of my knowledge, does the code work as intended?
Do I want feedback about any or all facets of the code?

1:01 AM
@Sp3000 Shortest (language) code that passes (some style guide for that language) might be interesting too.

Hmm well I thought about that, but style guide is only half the problem. It'd be amusing to see what people come up with for variable names, if they have to be unambiguous enough to make it to production yet as short as possible
(Do style guides cover things like that? Or just whitespace/etc?)

I'm sure I've seen something in a Google style guide saying "don't just call something x, that's meaningless"

Taking a look I see stuff like lowerCamelCase and "don't use one letter variable names"

@Mauris That could be particularly interesting with an objective automated style checker

Guessing most golfing languages are not supported by IDEs eh?
IDEA won't let me write (stylistically) ugly code, it keeps complaining if I do

1:12 AM
You'll have to make do with ugly algorithms...
2

lol

@trichoplax Right, that I can do exceedingly well.

@Phrancis A user here made an IDE that supports multiple esolangs but I can't recall offhand whether of any said esolangs are golfing languages.

One of our mods has made a legit IDE for Brainf*ck it's pretty damn cool

1:15 AM
Nice!

That is cool. :P

Oh gross, Windows
Really cool otherwise though

It's made in Java, it will run on your machine

\o/

1:17 AM
Hold on let me find the link

@AlexA. lol

Missed opportunity to call it Rubberfuck

LOL (literally)

I must know from the people who look at good code all day: Spaces or tabs for indentation?

1:21 AM
Spaces

Okay good, I don't have to chat suspend you. :P

@AlexA. ಠ_ಠ

@Dennis ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also, we look at mostly horrible code all day ;)

@AlexA. I prefer

There is no flawless code. In fact, most code is horrible.

Any code can be made flawless by golfing out the flaws.

This seems another argument for using an automated style checker rather than using Code Review as a golf adjudicator...

"Adjudicator." Good word choice.

@AlexA. Judicious use of words is important ;)

@AlexA. ಠ_ಠ

1:26 AM
No no, tabs are fine for golfing. We just wouldn't use them in real code

lol

-_-

1:35 AM
@Phrancis We think it is @AlexA.'s sock, but he refuses to admit it. :P

Huh-oh, flags abound

Whoever is flagging, stop

Ask @Seadrus to remove it first.

@seDRUS DONT SPAM

sorry

1:35 AM
You called @SirPython here.

I forgot I left that on

@Seadrus stop pls.
Oh, okay.

OMG lol

Enough with the flags. Your voice has been heard.

And @NathanOsman here.

1:36 AM
Can you seriously stop with the flags OMG

What's going on?

It could be @FlagAsSpam
STOP!!! FLAGGER STOP!!!!

Nothing to see, it was an honest accident

@RikerW It's really your fault :P

I don't see any more flags.

1:36 AM
@SirPython @Seadrus posted stuff and somebody kept flagging.

Note to everyone who is wondering what is going on... when you flag a chat message ALL chat moderators see the flag.
4

What was with all those messages?

...and quickly descend on this room.

We know, but nobody will admit they flagged it.

Certainly wasn't me.

1:37 AM
@SirPython You haven't heard of this place? It's... (dare I say) torturous.

I just manually deleted like half of them.

@Seadrus Left what on?

@Dennis A ಠ_ಠ bot.
Sorry Mods.

@NathanOsman Add any 10k users to that too

Seriously, who flagged them?
Hey @EBrown.
Sorry for the flags.

1:38 AM
I heard you guys crashed my chat.

Whoever the person is that is flagging all the messages today
seriously stop

(I can't answer flags)

@Zizouz212 Right - forgot about that.

We have no clue who posted it.

This is the fourth spam block today

1:39 AM
@EBrown Oh, never mind.

But my chat on my main room crashed when you guys did something.

@Quill Why are you here?

10k user

10k+ user?

Chat mod.

1:39 AM
Okay.

also because omnipresence and everything

@RikerW @Seadrus We have a dedicated chat room for playing with bots. Please use it.
3

lol

Please don't crash my chat anymore. :)

How did we crash your chat???

1:40 AM
I don't know, but I was told you guys did it.
For some reason my chat went to an ASPX Error page about 2 minutes ago.

Link to chatroom?
@EBrown I doubt it.

Chat doesn't crash, it's JavaScript, it's flawless

@Dennis I meant it as a short joke. I a) set the interval too short and b) meant to stop it with an increment loop which didn't work.

My entire chat crashed for about 5 seconds.
I think it was the automagic flags maybe?

shrugs

1:41 AM
@EBrown No such thing

Well somebody did something.

@Quill said it has been happening all day.

Ah, that's even more odd then.

Flagger, reveal thyself!
Pls?????

Do you guys really have a spam-detecting script that flags stuff? Or was that a joke?

1:42 AM
@Seadrus I realize that, but it's because of events like this one that I don't like to see bots in TNB.

Look... Enough with this flagger, enough with all the flags. It's not fun to notice it, and moreso, having to handle it.
Besides, why am I here? I have a final project to be working on... :/

Can the mods see who cast these flags?

@SirPython Yes

@Dennis gfy

gfy?

1:44 AM
I'm assuming "Go ____ yourself".

o_O

I missed the chance to see who flagged them since the flag icon broke.
2

@Seadrus I hope that means good for you.
Which is still rude, if you ask me.

I almost always read FTFY as ___ that ___ you.
It is really annoying.
Who flagged them then???

@NathanOsman not just moderators but people with enough rep

1:47 AM
Sorry guys (mods/10k+ users) for the flags.

Quite honestly, you're in a public room, which is accessible to anyone. I don't think it's necessarily wise for anyone to use such language

Didn't mean to call you here.

@Memor-X Already noted.

Note, we don't have bot issues on CR, but that's because we don't golf our code :P
also the rule there is that bots have to be stress tested elsewhere first
I would recommend that ^

Maybe a meta would do, if one does not exist already.

1:49 AM
Yes, we have a room for that.

@SirPython ?

@Zizouz212 A meta regarding what Quill recommended.

  Beep Boop Bingus Bin

VITRIFICATION ORDER (1947) CONDEMNED DO NOT ENTER

That's kinda un-necessary, but that's up to users of the site

@Quill @SirPython ^^

1:50 AM
for some reason, I'm imagining a bot in there called Sgt Hartman

lol
Seriously, who flagged the messages?
@Flagger ಠ_ಠ

That's not necessarily information someone would want shared

@RikerW Probably a good idea to give the matter a rest now.

@El'endiaStarman Yeah.

That's like asking who stole the cookie from the cookie jar; no one's going to admit it and the parents are going to handle it.

1:53 AM
@RikerW Why do you care? An account was flooding TNB in disapproval faces. That warrants a flag.

@Dennis It does

@RikerW why would the person own up to it? people would just yell at them

I just wanted to know.

Not I
@Quill You're no longer a hat maniac? :(

@RikerW Then become a mod. Oh wait, mods don't just become a mod so they can spy on people.

1:54 AM
I just re-entered this chat room, and I feel like I missed something important/dramatic.

Oh did a thing happen
Yeah what Phi said :P

@Doorknob lol

Oh, hi, @PhiNotPi.

@PhiNot@Door

1:54 AM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ not anymore... until Winterbash 2016, I'm just Quill

I remember you and @Doorknob doing Checkers/Chess.

I remember that too \o/

@Quill Oh. Okai.

That was fun.
Maybe someday we can write a Python IDE together in C# or something.

I like neither IDEs nor C#, so...

1:55 AM
ouch...

Boom goes the dynamite.

(I've never even used C#, and I can't remember the last time I used any kind of IDE)

straight up just uses MS word

Does Notepad count as an IDE?

no shame

1:56 AM
@PhiNotPi For plaintext, yeah
:P

But Seriously, what happened in here?

Flags

@RikerW posted a bot code, @Seadrus modified and made an error and ended up spamming. @Flagger raised some flags, and in came some mods

A ಠ_ಠ bot got a bit out of control...

1:58 AM
It's a good summary. :P

This is why you shouldn't be running 'toy bots' in chat

I scrolled up approximately five pages, glanced at the transcript, and decided the flags were justified. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
2

What happened?

@Quill s/toy //
@quartata o_O

Flags?

1:58 AM
if the bot doesn't have a worthwhile function, don't take it to your site's major room

Why is everything coming in now?

I SMELL FLAGS

raises a red flag ALL-cAPS VIOLATION

@quartata ...look about seven messages up.

@orlp Wait, AGDQ is on?
Holy shit I totally forgot
Everytime the GDQs start I always forget

1:59 AM
"AGDQ"?
