7:01 PM
how many mods does it take to graduate PPCG?

@Optimizer It takes a village

a group of mods is called a village?

@Optimizer Mods don't graduate PPCG. You do.
(well, the community in general anyway)

mods are part of community
and it was not like "just mods"
Also, thanks for ruining the joke doing your job.

What's the difference? :P

7:09 PM
the smiley
ಠ_ಠ
^ this one

I don't think that's a smile

the mouth part is actually not visible in there ... _ is the nose

Hahaha wth

he's shining tooo
just like doorknob!

7:13 PM
@AlexA. that movie is an absolute must-watch

@MartinBüttner What movie is it?

black dynamite

its totally obvious from the last scene of that video

I didn't know if that was his name

7:15 PM
its okay. Birds are not that smart anyways..
yಠuಠ are doing really great

Thank yಠ_ಠu

haha, yes

Oh jeez

not enough violence/profanity/sexual content..

7:17 PM
What's your preferred level of violence, profanity, and sexual content, @Optimizer?

oh my, you seem really interested :P

Violence like Kill Bill, profanity like The Boondock Saints, and sexual content like an adult film?
@Optimizer ಠ_ಠ

kill bill is comedy, didn't watch boondock whatever .. and if it has same level as an adult film, its an adult film

All fair points.
But you should watch Boondock Saints.

@Optimizer I saw Kill Bill 2 by mistake (went with a friend to see Troy. We were both rather surprised when a trailer for Troy came up. Then very surprised by the violent opening scene of Kill Bill 2. We figured out later that our tickets were for a showing the next month).
So when I saw Kill Bill, I was expecting a comedy and was surprised again.

7:26 PM
Can we make rep-bets on the new mod? (via bounties)

@PeterTaylor you can book tickets for movie 1 month in advance ???
@Calvin'sHobbies I bet on Myself!

@Optimizer Are you going to nominate yourself?

I'd take that bet ;)

@AlexA. no

I'm refraining from posting a nomination on meta because a nomination from an existing moderator could hold additional weight, but come on, there's way more people that deserve one :)

7:27 PM
@Doorknob that post is not a voting post, so feel free.

@Calvin'sHobbies Sounds like an abuse of the bounty system if I'm understanding you correctly.

votes are on a different post
anyone in for a match-fixing ?

@Doorknob You could make the questions/answers CW so the nominators are a bit less conspicuous

@Optimizer No, I meant that as in if an existing moderator nominated a user, it might give said user an unfair advantage.

@Optimizer more importantly, you can enter the cinema with a ticket booked for a different date and movie?

7:29 PM
@AlexA. Practicing your "mod voice" already ;)

@MartinBüttner that's a bug, the other one is a really awesome feature

it's also a pretty awesome bug if you know about it :P

Does moderating involve doing real world stuff like going to conventions? Because I'm way too lazy for that stuff :P

@BetaDecay No.

real world? mind explaining what that is?

7:30 PM
@BetaDecay I wish. The only real world thing is that you can get a mod hat sent to you and then relentlessly question anyone else wearing the hat in the extraordinarily rare case that you meet someone who is. :P

Are there Stack Exchange conventions?

A mod hat? :D

@Doorknob are you planning on nominating me .. ??? ≧◔◡◔≦ ༼ つ ͡◕ Ѿ ͡◕ ༽つ

@Calvin'sHobbies Not official ones.
Mods and SE staff do like to meet each other when they happen to be in the same place though. ;)

7:32 PM
@Optimizer Nope, like I said, I'm refraining from nominating anybody, at least for now.

@Doorknob they took you to an ice cream truck, didn't they?

@Optimizer I feel that if I nominated you, would actually become a thing

@Optimizer Please nominate yourself if you want to be a mod.

@BetaDecay Scary.

@ChrisJester-Young I think you don't understand the smileys . .

7:33 PM
Can I nominate @ChrisJester-Young to reinstate his mod status? :P

He'd have to be fired from the company first. :P

@Doorknob That.
And it's not the first thing on my priority list.

It's #2.
#1: Eat a sandwich.
#2: Get fired.

‛¯¯٭٭¯¯(▫▫)¯¯٭٭¯¯’
Just a 747 passing by...

Hahahhaha

7:34 PM
(It is pretty awesome though that even as a SE dev, he still helps out a ton with the site. So in a sort of roundabout way, I suppose you could say he effectively is, since he still has a diamond here :P)

^^

v
hmm, too much line spacing to see a diamond forming

♦_♦

7:37 PM
ಠ_♦

Haha eyepatch?

Nah, just a user named "ಠ_" who happens to be a mod. :P

ಠ♦ಠ

grumpy owl

@Optimizer You should run as the Civilian Party nominee. "giving a llama to every child living in poverty" is one of their primary goals

7:39 PM
More like "give a child to every llama" as a sacrificial offering

What about the privileged children? Why don't they get llamas?

ಠ_ಠ

It would translate to "giving a llama to every user with less than 1k rep"

stop it. llamas are also human

Luckily we all get ice cream

7:41 PM

Llama ice cream? I don't know if that's cool or sick
Like goat's cheese is sick

goat's cheese is amazing. especially warm with figs and honey.

cheese with honey?

Well that is my idea of a nightmare...

What about bird cheese?

7:43 PM
birds don't milk.
keep trying though.

one day...

:23389717 didn't know you were into such stuff :P
@user4067565 oohhh .. shots fired!

Wtf? The Wagamama chicken donburi says: this dish contains cereals, crustacean, fish, sesame seed, soya and sulphur dioxide

@BetaDecay Wtaf

actual ?
acidic ?

7:50 PM
Actual

What the acidic f***?

@BetaDecay Sulphites are actually pretty commonly used in food.
In small quantities, of course. But some people are sensitive to sulphites, which is why they disclose it.

@ChrisJester-Young Ohh I didn't know it was actually in the form of SO2

"in the form" ?
what else is sulphur dioxide ?

Cereals, crustacean, fish, sesame seed, and soy, and was cast in fire and brimstone.

7:51 PM
@Optimizer Sulphites, not Sulphur Dioxide.

@ChrisJester-Young but the ingredient clearly say so2

Pretty sure SO2 == Stack Overflow Careers 2.0

@Optimizer I presume that Beta Decay has heard of sulphite sensitivities before, but didn't know that SO₂ is one manifestation of such.

oh
I have always wondered, are the deadly allergies to food items genetic ?

Celiac's Disease is.

7:53 PM
I hear about them a lot more in US than other places ... though that can be due to other reasons too

My sister and I are both lactose intolerant, though that's not an allergy.
Milk allergy is an allergy to the protein, lactose intolerance is an inability to digest the sugar (an insufficient amount of the lactase enzyme)
@Optimizer Americans like to complain.

@AlexA. haha
Can't complain about that ;)

@Calvin'sHobbies Crab?

8:00 PM
It's really adorable.

birds like crabs?

@Calvin'sHobbies CRAB?

I nominate crab.

@Optimizer Large predatory seabirds probably do.

@Optimizer

8:02 PM
No Alex!! NOOO!!

You should spend more time at the coast ;)

But at what cost?

and so it begins...

Getting your chips stolen by a bloody seagull

@Optimizer The Gold Coast is expensive.

8:03 PM
For the record, I don't love birds

@Calvin'sHobbies D:
But birds love you

The poop everywhere

You love everyone :P

you can totally tell by all the cheese they drop towards you

@Calvin'sHobbies What poop?

8:04 PM
Pfft do you see me taking a dump on your car?
No!
*Not always

Just when no one's looking
Also, gross.

@BetaDecay You probably do leave electrons and junk

@Calvin'sHobbies Yeah but the big collections of atoms don't really seem to care
It just annoys the single atoms

All the single atoms. All the single atoms.

Beyoncé's Theorem for Singleton Sets: If you like it then you should have defined a ring on it.

Oxygen-Hydrogen Oxygen-Hydrogen Oxygen-Hydrogen Oxygen-Hydrogen Oxygen-Hydrogen Oxygen-Hydrogen Oxygen-Hydrogen

8:15 PM
you can golf that to hydroxide hydroxide hydroxide hydroxide hydroxide hydroxide hydroxide

haha

@user4067565 Golf that even more to 7hydroxide
Or 7OH

has science gone too far?!

Science is built upon going too far
Why stop now? ;)

^ Line he says every single moment while decaying
Don't stop.. decaying ...

Q: Giving Directions

Basset HoundChallenge You've given a map to a friend that looks a bit like this: | / | / | \ | \ | A simple map that starts at the top and ends at the bottom. Sadly, your friend doesn't get it. Can you decode the map so that he can read it? Input The input ...

@MartinBüttner I don't think the guy on the gate looked at anything except the screen number (which was the largest text on the ticket).

@Optimizer Sounds like a quote from a book/film

Incidentally, those with mod experience on PPCG, how much time does it take on average?

@PeterTaylor FWIW I think you would make an excellent mod. I'm glad you're going to consider the nomination. :)

Thanks, Alex.

8:28 PM
what would you guys think about a popcon to draw a shaded rotated cube using ASCII?

you just ruined it ^

:(

@PeterTaylor So far you and I are the only two people nominated, and I think you're the more natural choice. You've been an extremely valuable member of the community. If you choose to accept the nomination, you'll get a vote from me.
(No pressure to accept though, just voicing support)

I nominate myself as sole dictator for life

whose life ?

8:30 PM
I would be surprised if there are no more nominations by the end of the week.

shit
don't think whomever I'd name would live very long :P

test cases seem inconsistent in Giving Directions ^

@PeterTaylor I would also be surprised, but I think regardless of who else is nominated, you would still be the natural choice.

made it worse by self quoting

I don't like the idea, personally. Seems like too much of an art contest. You'd have to specify something very specific about the programming requirements.
@Geobits, @Dennis, @Calvin'sHobbies :: Any interest in being nominated?

@PeterTaylor It's hard to tell for me, because my activity was already very high, so the moderator activity accounts for a small part of my active time. I'd say everyday work load is comparable to the review queues. It would be nice to have another moderator for those times, where it's not that simple and you want feedback from another mod before taking action.

that's not how nominations work
lol

@AlexA. I'd say Geobits would be a good nominee

@orlp Well if they have no interest in being a moderator, there's no sense in nominating them.

Plus it's his b-day today, so give him a present :)

8:34 PM
@AlexA. input would be the location of the light source, the pitch, yaw and roll of the unit cube, and the resolution of the outputted image

It's his birthday today?!?!
@Geobits HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Someone should make him a cake shaped like a downvote.
2

@MartinBüttner The review queues on this site are always empty, so that sounds like virtually no work at all ;)

@PeterTaylor right, maybe it looks emptier for everyone else... :D
I didn't consider that ^^

The first page of the close review history goes back almost two weeks.

@MartinBüttner I only see two reopen votes
also, can we nominate mr. Buettner to be 'double-moderator', or hypermoderator?

8:38 PM
@PeterTaylor well First Posts and LQ are the busiest ones, I think.

@AlexA. No

@Calvin'sHobbies Okay, thanks for letting me know. I will not nominate you then. :)

and close vote and reopen vote queues are often cleared "by accident" (when people cast their votes on the question page)

Interesting. From my perspective, Close and Reopen are probably the busiest. First Post and LQ are one or two a week.
If that.
First Post's history goes back to the same day as Close. LQ's goes back a lot further.
But you seem to handle a lot more of them, so it's probably your binding votes pulling them out of the queue.

yeah that's what I meant with "maybe it looks emptier for everyone else". ;)
and I don't review CV and RV much because of the binding vote, and questions that enter these queues are often (about to be) closed based on not entirely objective things like "unclear" or "too broad".

8:44 PM
180 degrees is fine in convex, but 181 is too much, right?

Worth a shot :)

A: We're getting a new moderator - Call for Nominations

Beta DecayI'm gonna have a go at nominating myself. Being a high school student and all, I have a lot more time on my hands than someone with a job might do, so I'll be able to patrol PPCG more than most people. I also have a large interest in the way PPCG works, so I probably won't be bored by the jobs ...

already -15
give up

haha aw

Hahah that'll never get old

why not remove the green 0, it would feel more realistic ...

8:56 PM
Good idea

@BetaDecay "Now I'll see how much I'm appreciated by the site" I wouldn't judge how valued you are by the community based on how many nomination votes you get. Many folks here are very, very valued by the community. You are, regardless of whether you get votes.

(mostly down votes though)
(exactly 15 .. somehow)
this is hilarious .. imgur.com/gallery/3JLYm

@AlexA. Good point, I've taken that out

@Optimizer Yes it is

9:26 PM
Pretty funny that aside from further examples and ruling out brute force, my entire challenge is one sentence

9:48 PM
maybe 100 vertices in a minute is too much to ask for - all I want to do is rule out bruteforce

10:05 PM
I got an interesting question that seemed pretty obvious to me at first but then I was not so sure how to answer.
Why do we need moderators? Why can't we just, as users, flag the posts that need to be flagged and have them closed automatically? Why are the moderators there?

also, do not forget that the moderators are democratically chosen, and are also part of 'us', the users

@orlp .oO(Moderators on beta sites are appointed by the community team, not elected per se. Yes, the community team listens to the people in making these decisions, but formal elections are only done for graduated sites.)

@ChrisJester-Young oh

11:05 PM
@AlexA. I've been asking myself that question all day.

11:45 PM
@Dennis I was very much considering writing you a nomination. Today has been hectic and I haven't had much time, though...
@AlexA. My geometry student is taking the Algebra II placement test and I'm nervous as hell.

@BrainSteel I'd certainly appreciate a nomination, but I'm still debating with myself. Being a mod might mean that I'd spend even more time on this site...
@BassetHound Why did you delete your submission? Wouldn't swapping the outputs have been enough?
Never mind. I just saw you posted the other code in the permalink.

Yep.
I've been making a bunch of screw ups today.

It happens. I almost did the same thing with my 13 byte submission.

The one with the base 2 conversion stuff?
