hi
i thought it's not good to talk my stuff in a general chatroom
it's too personal; i think that's against the chatroom policies
Understood!
@DamkerngT. isn't that so?
Hmm... it depends.
There's nobody else in the room right now anyway.
ok..
so, what should i start with ?
designation or salary ?
first let me tell you about the situation
in English Language Learners, 2 mins ago, by Damkerng T.
Then I think she would understand if you said something like I'm sorry about my English. My English could be too direct at times. I hope you will understand.
06:47
Before i join this current workplace, i worked in another workplace for about 10 months
Or I'm sorry that my English is very limited. ...
So, i saw that a advertise for (Associate Software Engineer)

first let me tell you about the situation
Then you can express your problems right away.
I'm listening.
are you listening ?
great
so, i applied to this workplace and i got selected
so, when i join here, my initial designation was 'Software Developer'
software Developer < Associate Software Engineer
but i didn't bother to ask about this from the HR at that moment
Uh-huh
06:49
i thought when i get confirmed they might change my designation into 'ASE' (associate software engineer)
My probation period was 9 months
now it has almost 10 months
i received my confirmation letter through the post last week
@CrazyNinja Did you ask anyone about the change?
it says, i got confirmed in my workplace as a 'Software Developer'
I mean 10 months ago, whether they would promote you to ASE automatically.
yes. i asked from few colleagues here, and they said to talk with HR or PM
And did you talk to anyone in HR or the PM?
06:51
no. That's what i'm going to do today
!!!
I see. Hmm...
and the other thing is
i'm getting only about 300 USD as my monthly salary
which is damn lower one compared to others working here
:(
I guess it's not easy to negotiate that.
what do you mean?
it's not good to talk about the salary ?
with the PM ?
Not that. I think you should. But I don't know that chance that you will get raised immediately is very high.
@CrazyNinja Yes.
Okay, I think I'd recommend you to discuss this with the PM straightforwardly.
And hope that she will understand your situation and all misunderstanding.
06:55
yes. so that is my situation
And listen to anything she may recommend.
by the way; in order to make my conversation a good one, what would i talk with her?
Just tell her like you were telling me.
how should i start off my conversation ??? VERY IMPORTANT ONE!
(i'll go her room, and sits on the chair. afterthat?)
You can being with something like, I believe that there must be a big misunderstanding about my salary and my designation (job title). I could have wrongly assumed since the beginning, but I hope you can help me out.
06:58
wow! so professional ^_^
And then you can tell her about things that happened 10 months ago.
What you read in the ad, what your assumptions was, etc.
yes. worth to memorize those two sentences !

It's still not very perfect. But it should work.
yeah mn.. definetely it sounds like it's gonna work !!!
plus
Don't worry too much about the language. I think your ability to communicate is just fine.
07:01
but i'm now afraid if i something has went wrong
that will be a black mark on me
Like what?
Hmm... for that kind of tactic, I think people at Workplace SE would know more tricks than me.
if they said 'If you are not satisfied with your position there are many places you can look fo'
for
in case; if i got a reply like that, how should i handle this ?
That's possible. So you should know your answer first. What if she told you that? How would you answer?
i mean in language wise ?
Language comes later. What do you really think?
07:03
I'm don't have words to say... in such a scenario
totally lost
That's why I think it's not easy to negotiate.
if you were in a situation like this; how would you handle it ?
Hmm... I think I would do what I usually do. I would read the situation first.
I mean, I would check how bad I really need this job.
Is it acceptable if the negotiation turned out badly? How much loss can I accept?
Then I would check out a bit about the PM, assuming that the PM is the right person to talk to.
I think you would do the same if the PM and you spoke the same language.
Typically, in a conversation, we always read the other, and judge from the response to see how far we could take the matter with the other.
When we're unsure how much the other is willing to help, we usually "test the waters", right?
..., but I hope you can help me out. is a kind of such a "test the waters" question.
She can say no at once. Or she can tell you right away that she might not be able to help but she's willing to try to help. Or she can tell you that she can help and will help.
So, it depends.
Does that make sense?
yes
so, your (which i'm going to say) first sentence, have a big impact on the PM's impressions
to my meeting with her
I hope so. Telling her that there is a misunderstanding implies that it's no one's fault. Not yours. Not the company.
And of course, not hers.
07:15
great bro
thanks million times for this help!
I can help only a bit.
I think you'll need to improvise during the conversion with her.
i have asked this even in workplace
Though I hope for the best.
