This is the first Stack Exchange offering I've committed to since its start and I've noticed it had a large amount of content initially, counting over 27 questions per day, but by taking a look in the respective Area 51 Page, we (as of now) have 6 questions per day. Is this a drawback or is it ty...
On Meta Stack Exchange, it is suggested that I can subscribe to a site's weekly newsletter from the User Edit Page. However, I couldn't find such an option on the new profile page that was rolled out recently. Furthermore, Mythology is missing from the newsletters page on stackexchange.com.
How...
@EroSɘnnin We won't be doing one for each graduate sites, only for the ones with topics somehow related to mythology. If we post one on Chemistry, for example, I'm pretty sure it will be removed by their mods or SE staff.
Here's a recent(ish) example of an ad removed from ProgSE's community ads thread: i.stack.imgur.com/RCpGj.png (even though it could be argued that programmers are machines that turn coffee to code)
@fredley The community-driven advertisements/bulletins have to be at least roughly aligned with the topic of the community. This advertisement is not appropriate for Programmers SE. — Robert Cartaino ♦Feb 17 at 14:57
@Yannis Sorry, that's me. I was feeling a bit irked after getting blocked from arXiv earlier while trying to get to a pre-print I really, really, really needed to see.
on the plus side, the images they're using seem much less ambiguous than the recaptchas I'm used to, so I still find it easier to get through these consistently than the old ones
@El'endiaStarman I didn't want to put this in the comments, but you're right. I was on the fence about the frost bird question because we took the OP at his word that he had done research, which was why I felt this a similar case. But neither should be acceptable., so vote to close and downvote for the demon one.
I was the second one to vote to close this question, for various reasons:
1. What does it mean to `consume` a life? 2. What type of demon? 3. What type of curse? 4. Are they looking for a specific demon? Or do they just want an example?
it does look like they made the classic mistake of commenting "actually there's this other site..." before pointing out the broadness problem that'd get it closed on any SE
I'll be watching Worldbuilding to see what happens. I'm not sure what the reaction will be. David's right on one bit, certainly - a lot more will be needed for it to be okay there.
Is there a demon in whatever culture/epoch/myth who can consume your life in some time through a curse?
With "consume your life" I intentionally leave it unclear, because it is not really important. You get the curse... some time... you die. No matter how.
the scifi comments recommended both us and WB, so unless people leave more ill-advised comments he should stop with this one
though getting closed on three separate sites because of a misguided comment on SciFi is kind of a dick move so we might want to invite him to chat to clean up the question or something
yeah, so it comes down to whether a mod thinks it's worth his time to help the guy clean up that mess and write a better question, still nothing I can do
Yeah. I personally don't really think he can be helped all that much. He copy-pasted his question to different sites without doing ANY investigation into the site itself.
