Q: Why is my question 'How would the main clause be corrected' is On-hold?

OnyxMy question was kept on hold due to off-topic as it was a proof reading question. Being my first question, I did not know as to what kind of questions to be posted. After going through the rule of off-topic, I have edited my post to a specific topic but still the question is kept on hold.

Q: Night rain vs Night train, gemination?

Nihilist_FrostThe Wikipedia article on gemination claims that gemination of /t/ is the distinguishing factor between the pronunciation of the two phrases night train and night rain. In my whole life, I've almost never heard the final /t/ in night and the initial /t/ in train articulated the same way. The init...

Can we reopen this question?
@snailboat Yeah.
Anonymous
I actually flagged it for migration.
Anonymous
I voted to reopen first, though :-)
Aww... to Linguistics.SE, perhaps?
Anonymous
07:54
Yeah, 'cause we've got to discussion what gemination is to answer it.
Anonymous
Well, I'd be happy if it stayed on ELL and got reopened.
I don't quite understand the question that you're asking here - could you rephrase it a little? Or add a sentence with a different wording of the same question? — Alex K 2 hours ago
Of course you don't.
I didn't either.
Though I think I did.
There is some gemination AFAIK.
Anonymous
@Ϻ.Λ.Ʀ. I don't understand why you added some. I think gemination is either there or it's not.
@snailboat I wanted the sentence to flow better.
Anonymous
I just think it made more sense without some.
07:57
. . . And I wanted to add some tags, realizing we lack tags for technical pronunciation stuff.
Anonymous
Hey, it's going to get reopened :-)
Anonymous
I added .
@snailboat I think it will!
Mhm.
Oh, Nathan has applied his hats creatively.

Q: 'Bye' Vs 'Good Bye'

Maulik VI have read/heard at many places where 'Good Bye' is not good. It is a final remark on that very harsh moment. Scene #1: Mike and Sarah are in good relationship. "Hey honey, see you tomorrow. Bye!" Scene #2: Mike and Sarah are now about to break up. "I don't want to see you anymore...

Next HNQ coming up.
I guess so.

I wonder how often people write good bye with a space these days.
Anonymous
Not so much.
Do we have . . . Bad buy? :)
Anonymous
Only jocularly.
Anonymous
I might've said bad bye once as a grade schooler trying to be clever. I'm not sure :-)
08:02
Oh, right! We also have "Bye, bye", which is kinda cute. :D
Anonymous
@DamkerngT. バイバーイ!
And "ta".
Yeah, and those tree branches.

Hooray for reduplication!
I find magnets particularly astonishing.

Anonymous
The good in goodbye is actually God originally.
Anonymous
08:05
God be with ye.
Anonymous
It's not a type of bye that is good.
Yeah I know.
Anonymous
Rather, bye is shortened from goodbye.
The Persian version literally translates into "GodLookafter".
Anonymous
So someone could explain in an answer that goodbye isn't really supposed to be 'good'.
08:07
Who? Me? Scared
@Ϻ.Λ.Ʀ. That deserves an LO message!
@DamkerngT. Well, you got it covered!

I had no idea about this being the main chat.

Thanks @Parth for understanding.
@ParthKohli Blame this guy.
I apologise.
Duly noted.
@Ϻ.Λ.Ʀ. Hah!
@ParthKohli It's all right. No need to feel bad at all.

This. Must be a duplicate.

Oh, to what question?
Anonymous
Probably. Help is an exceptional verb that takes both to and bare infinitival complements.
Anonymous
However, the long term trend is toward bare infinitival complementation.

Cookie MonsterI know that generally native speakers say it usually like this (without the to): These exercises will help you get better at math. Can you help me move these boxes outside? Help needed with the usage of "/"
I am using "/" in this post
@Pandya ?
And confused presently in this discussion
@DamkerngT. Wha do you think about the usage of "/" in such case?
What is the site's name?
@Ϻ.Λ.Ʀ. currently Open Source
@Pandya I would understand that you mean Free = Libre.
10:03
Why is there a need to include both "Libre" and "Free"?
@DamkerngT. Yes, Exactly
I think that goes back to the early days of the Free Software.
Several people think of "free" as in "free beer".
@Ϻ.Λ.Ʀ. In order to avoid ambiguity of word "Free" can be as in freedom or as in price
Oh yeah, I remember a post on it.
To emphasize that it's "free" as in "freedom", they also used "libre".
10:04
What about using parenthesis @Pan?
@Ϻ.Λ.Ʀ. I will think about it.
Currently I want to know what "Free" will indicate if we use this ("Free, Libre & Open Source) as separated by comma?
I would rather the parenthesis.
The comma could indicate that those adjectives are unrelated.
> he used the term “FLOSS,” meaning “Free/Libre and Open Source Software,”
I think it looks okay because someone else has used it before, as well. :D
The slash is also used to avoid taking a position in a naming controversy, allowing the juxtaposition of both names without stating a preference. An example is the designation "Assyrian/Chaldean/Syriac" in the official U.S. census, reflecting the Syriac naming dispute. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slash_%28punctuation%29#In_English_text
This type usage in this case right?
I think so.
I think we could write Free (or Libre) and Open Source Software or Free (aka Libre) and Open Source Software, but Free/Libre and Open Source Software has one advantage: it's more concise.
10:16
@DamkerngT. OK. Thanks

OdedI just got the And I Feel Fine hat which states "post or vote on December 21". Does SE have a time machine now?

Hah!
Oh, wait. I just got it too!
I got it in three sites.
"Hello, Luke, I'm your dad."
"Hey dad. What are you doing at Stack Exchange?"
"We're searching for secret hats. (breathing heavily)"

A: 'Bye' Vs 'Good Bye'

user27723Goodbye can be used as a final farewell when someone is ending a relationship or walking out on someone. It is a more formal word than bye and thus makes sense in this context. Also, when slamming the door and walking out on someone, a robust two-syllable goodbye adds strength to the nonverbal cu...
