Wow, 13-hours-break in chat?
This is turning into The Periodic Table.
Whee! A Good question badge!
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M nice work!
o/ @Jims! Thanks!
Yeah, there's been a long pause.
Well, I was just about to get going. :/
05:51
It looks like there are others in here.
Just looks like.
You can always ping them to find out
@Fan never talks, @JimR always comes when there's no one to talk to and @Dam is probably boiling water in his kettle.
I do. Sometimes.
Well, rarely.
05:56
I usually come on thinking I can take a break from work, and then realize I'm still busy.
Most the chatrooms I am in are dead.
well, not dead. Quiet.
And apart from this one, I've been the last to post in all of them :P
05:56
Am I . . . ?
On the other side?
Well.
Is this heaven?
Yup.
Heaven is SE Chat.
Daddy?
O.O
Though judging by the charts, this is when they'll start to pick up/.
Even Language Overflow is quiet, though :/
05:59
Well, that's hardly a chatroom.
@Dam and his (robotic) ideas of a blog. . .
I got ping'd last time you @Jim 'd
Which jim did you get pinged for?
And I don't know how to ping you now, MAR, or whatever your name is.
Let me see.
Hah! @JimR doesn't know how to ping me; I'm immortal.
06:11
@JimReynolds Yeah, that's expected
I saw youse guyses discussing it before.
What we were talking about is, since we both start with jim, whether we would both get pinged; apparently not.
So, is it based on the last Jim that chatted, or the last Jim ... the last Jim that what?
farted?
Apparently, the Jim that most recently spoke
Unless one of us is doing it, I guess?
Because you can't ping yourself.
That might start some kind of unpredictable reaction.
06:13
@jimsug can you?
Oh, I can.
Wait.
@jimsug ping?
yeah
So I only pinged myself accidentally that first time.
@Jim Reynolds
No spaces.
I don't seem to be pinging myself.
Oh.
06:14
@JimReynolds
@JimR
@JimReynolds
Nope.
yeah, apparently I can super-ping myself
but not a regular ping
What, may I ask, is a ... you know?
20
A: What is a 'superping'?

Martijn PietersSuperpings are a chatroom feature only available to diamond moderators, where they can reach a user irrespective of past interaction. Compare that to a normal ping, where you can @name someone in comments or in a chatroom only if they have been active on a post or in that chatroom. Superpings h...

You are a god!

With great power comes great responsibility.
Can you withdraw money from SE?

You can identify moderators in chat because we have a blue username on the left-hand side
The room owner is in italics
Cool. Now, I only want to talk to His Excellency, jimsug. This inɒz ... person no longer interests me.
@Dam sent me a URL once to invert or mirror image that name, but it didn't work for me.
Is my computer too old? (It's an Atari Pong machine.)
07:32
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M
Ah! I think I tried "mirror" the first time, and then clear. I think I needed to refresh Chrome before then doing a reverse. (Or maybe I didn't enable java??) Thanks!
07:56
Well, there is no way to place an advertisement on the beta sites, therefore I am posting here to let everyone know that I have proposed an ***** Arts and Crafts ***** site which is now in commitment phase on area51. Those interested, please commit. area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/77518/arts-and-crafts Thanks.
OK! Thanks for letting us know.

Hi
13:26
@Arrowfar Hey there! Are you still here?

3 hours later…
user116848
16:43
@jimsug Hi, yes I'm here.
user116848
17:10
I pop in and out here all the time :)
17:48
@jimsug Is that a challenge?
user116848
18:19
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M @snailboat @CopperKettle Hi guys! I'm here.
user116848
:(
Good evening, @Arrowfar!
user116848
@CopperKettle Hi! o/
19:54
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M I don't think that "black" question explains describing black people who are very dark skinned vs people with lighter black skin.
WHO DARES SUMMON ME?
Oh \o @Cat!
Oh, I thought those with lighter skin didn't refer to black people with lighter skin, but to white people.
Nope. Black people come in a variety of shades... some so dark they're almost actually black, some so light they can nearly pass as "white".
Bah, whatever.
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M Awww, it's OK. :D You're... where again?
I'm in the universe right now.
20:08
What does that mean? Ugh. I was just going to relate... I'm pretty sure, for example, in India, there are light and dark skinned Indians, right? More northern are lighter and more southern are darker... When I would see Bollywood films VS South Indian films the difference in skin tone was startling. :)
I myself classify as almost black.
But mine isn't inherited.
I ride a lot.
I think that's supposed to be tanned.
Too much tan, then.
You could be dark, tanned, and handsome, even. :P
My contrast and brightness always increase by 20% after I come out of the shower.
@Arrow's testing how many times it's possible to pop in and outta chat everyday.
user116848
20:14
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M Well, yes :D
user116848
Where I live some people have light skin, and are very good looking.
user116848
But it is kinda rare.
Here too; but I'm no staying-indoor sissy.
Dark-skinned Africans have, in the past, used skin bleaching agents to make themselves appear lighter-skinned. Personally, I love the darker skin tones.
user116848
I have a sorta light skin too. But not that light. Well, you all know how I look like.

Q: how to distinguish "cost" from "price"

nimaTechnically, B could be—I think—wrong. However, would anyone please show me what is the difference in meaning between them? And whether B is incorrect? So, could A and B be used interchangeably? if so, when? A. the cost of moving house B. the price of moving house ......................

An interesting bounty.
user116848
I am yellow I guess.
@Arrowfar You look like a sausage frying in a pan? At least that's how your littlified avatar looks like to me.
user116848
I didn't get Brian Hitchcock's ping.
@DamkerngT. I've never tried winning a bounty, but this might be different. . .
user116848
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M Pouts
user116848
20:20
:D
user116848
@Catija I didn't know that. Interesting. And Hi!
@DamkerngT. I don't understand what's unclear about my answer to that... but realistically, that person is asking a totally new question and it should be posted as a different question.
@DamkerngT. Bah, I hardly answer an already answered question. @Cat's answer is unbeatable there.
@Catija Nima thinks all of the answers to his questions are unclear in some way.
400 rep is coming your way, cheer up.
@Catija I hadn't looked into the question the first time it came up. Still not sure about what the OP wants.
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M LOL -- I think that's pretty likely.
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M Bah, my answer was pre-existing... I don't think I'll get the rep unless I edit the answer somehow.
20:25
I think the price of moving house sounds weird.
@Catija Dunno, but I've seen bounties awarded to non-edited old answers.
By the self-award process.
@DamkerngT. That's because it is.
A-ha! (I still haven't read everything in there.)
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M I thought self-award only worked on answers made after the bounty was put up.
But caution is the way of the wise. Edit your answer and say Hope this doesn't help and you'll be in the queue for sure.
20:27
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M HA HA HA. I've almost gotten to the point of not wanting to answer his questions any more.
@Catija Well, you are a meta.SE reg, so you must know how crappy this system is.
@Catija I've decided that a while ago.
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M Yes. That's true. Oh, but I'm so excited about the potential for them graduating beta sites without the new art. :D
user116848
+400 is tempting btw.
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M Are cost the noun and price the noun the same word in Persian?
@Catija For the love of fluffy unicorns, they didn't graduated ELL while it got to the thresholds a long while ago. I think they hate language sites; because of the argument over on ELU.
@DamkerngT. Yep.
20:32
Ahh
@Arrowfar Believe me, seeing my rep go up little by little with edits on meta.SE and random upcoats is way more fun than hunting rep.
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M Well, I think they're having a difficult time figuring out what the design should look like. If we rush them, we'll probably end up with some sort of blackboard look.
I lovez blackboard looks.
Like that, maybe. :D
20:37
Oh the apple!
My tooth aches now.
Oh, that's nice. -- trying to recall where he's seen it before...
I'm thinking more like this... which seems a bit childish. If they could make it more adult-appropriate, that'd be OK... though it might be a bit dark.
user116848
Why do apples and books go together?
Reminds me of Angry Birds: Seasons..
@Arrowfar "Apple for the teacher"... not sure why, but there's a history in the US of kids bringing apples to their teachers...
20:39
@Arrowfar Repeat after me: Ei Ei Capital A, small a, Capital A, small a. . .
user116848
@Catija Ah, I see :)
@Catija Actually, little little kids bringing apples to school as their nutrition during recess is the custom here.
Or meme.
user116848
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M heh, yes I'm repeating.
Good times good times. . .Back then I only had to worry about making my alphabet letters look tidy and in alignment; now I'm worrying my Cannizaro mechanism might not look acceptable to the examiner's eyes.
user116848
And back then I was very good at drawing but my writing sucked. It was a mystery for teachers because they say people who are good at drawing have a good hand writing.
user116848
20:44
Not necessarily I'd say. At least that's what I proved.
user116848
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M Cannizaro?
Organochem stuff.
OK. Updated answer. If he doesn't like it, he can go eat his shirt because no one can do any better :P
user116848
Yay!
Aww, a flood has hit Alborz province. :(
@Catija Wait, wha? But you didn't add Hope this doesn't help. :'(
20:49
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M Sorry, as a high-rep user, I'd be required to edit it out, so I chose not to include it in the first place.
Bah dum tss. SE and its weird norms. . .
BTW "users who ask questions no one can answer" isn't necessarily a good thing. — inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M 51 secs ago
I must run away, @Cat's tracking my every move. . .
Ugh, my husband works with a bunch of astrophysicists and they're "writing code" but they don't actually know what they're doing... and they will often intentionally overcomplicate the code because they think it's "cool".
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M I was on that question first
Boldly.
@Catija I always try to make the TeX code I write too complicated.
They're hiding the fact that they're scared of someone telling them their code sucks; as am I.
20:58
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M Awww... but it just makes it really difficult for anyone to come along later and edit the code... and it makes it much more likely to be buggy.
@Catija That reminds me of one piece of code I wrote. No one ever dare to touch it beyond adding new methods to the classes. The core had been left alone for over 10 years, or so I was told.
Frankly, I think that code was very clean.
That's good :) I don't code but I'm a big fan of simplicity.
I guess it was too clean for folks who inherited and maintained the project. :P
user116848
It is 2AM here I better go and hit the sack.
user116848
G'night all!
21:12
G'night @Arrow!
@DamkerngT. Clean is relative. Was it clean comparing to my school bag?
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M I guess it was cleaner. :-)
The problem was even though it was clean, and pretty much easy to read, it was so complicated.
'Cause it had to deal with a very complicated thing.
@DamkerngT. I'm still the top voter in chem.SE; week, month, quarter, but not year or all; and it's because Santiago's voting like crazy and I was absent for some days. ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ
Love the emoticon! :D
21:16
Well, it's mighty, but I'm using it as a replacement for typing all of the (emoticon for bragging).
@Catija BTW TeX code is one of the least buggy codes ever.
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M Ah. I have no clue at all :P I think about learning, though.
It is teh bets ting in da world i LOVEZ it it is so good ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡ TeX ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
I've been TeXing recently, and all I eat, drink, dream, think about, love, hate or swear at is TeX. Or PDFLaTeX, to be more precise.
I always wanted some control over the layout I have at hand.
So TeX is my thing.
MS word was too simple.
BTW I started to like TeX because of SE @Cat!
21:32
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M Oh, like document formatting? interesting. I refuse to use Adobe Acrobat because it's stupid.
Chem.SE has MathJax implemented, so I got curious about all those dollar signs and stuff. . .Glad that I did.
@Catija This explains all of it, in a cooler way.
Some of it, whatever.
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M Ah, so that's how the math text books manage to get the fun formatting.
Yeah, I exactly said this sentence after I saw it.
@inɒzɘmɒЯ.A.M I used LaTeX for my Honours thesis
changed my life.
@Catija When DK (Donald Knuth) gave a speech that he spent five years to develop a typesetting setting system, my senior undergrads laughed. (Why such a thing took five years to develop.) Back then I was too young to attend the event. I laughed doubtfullly with them. I was so fool!
21:41
@jimsug It's a wonder, no?
Yeah... I appreciate proper kerning. So, that probably tells you a lot.
^I wonder why I typed setting twice.
@DamkerngT. If one tells me DK, I'll 1) think they meant Damkerng 2) think they meant the name of a car here. 3) make up extensions to it myself.
@Catija Neat! (I love everything that looks neat!)
@DamkerngT. Strangely, I've grown that feeling too because of LaTeX 2e.
