well that moderator questionnaire made my voting choices a little harder to figure out rather than easier
y'all seem like you have your heads in the right place
and i will be pretty happy no matter who winds up a mod
@doppelgreener It made my voting choices harder. I didn't expect that.
@doppelgreener Ditto. With a field like this, I'll be happy if I don't get elected. :)

@Emrakul I don't expect the types of communication I have to change at all. I do expect I'll probably bow out of comment discussions sooner than I do, and that I'll probably be more active on meta than I already am. Generally though, I'm not leaving chat, and I'm not going to stop posting on main.
@Emrakul Putting forth strong opinions in answers and comments (I was a very strong proponent for "4e should be played raw" when there was controversy around that
As a mod I feel it would be wholly inappropriate to take sides or argue in anyway as I once did as a simple user
@Emrakul I'm not sure what you mean by that, but I'll guess you mean I feel unable to be in chat without being a ignition point? If my presence, even while trying to avoid being contentious, became so to the overall detriment of main chat I would sadly, but dutifully withdraw.
@SevenSidedDie concur, lol our voting as nominees felt like who am I picking last for dodgeball
@JoshuaAslanSmith mods have to take sides sometimes though
just... much more diplomatically and for much different reasons than regular users
@doppelgreener take policy sides and reign people in when need be but I can't be an outspoken advocate for pet projects and approaches when there is contention
lobbying as it were
I feel I would need to be more philosophical and simply moderate the debate vs. interjecting like a professor letting 2 students argue it out. So long as its respectful I should not have to intervene.
@doppelgreener Yeah, I suspect the shift is much more toward a longer view.
@JoshuaAslanSmith I think there is room for the occasional "This is fine and doesn't need arguing over." comments that get delivered by the current mods. Douses fires effectively, especially when a taste-based dogpile happens.
right, thats what Im saying, just focus on the exchange but not participate in the actual content of the exchange

@JoshuaAslanSmith The times I've seen it there's been a definite engagement with the content, though.

@SevenSidedDie I think its fine to engage if its very clear the OP wants one thing in their question and users are bordering on harassment with a frame challenge, as a way to say hey you cant do that here, but I personally would avoid engagement as much as possible with the content.
@JoshuaAslanSmith Yeah, that makes sense. Just as a "cool it, it's cool."

@SevenSidedDie alternately if necessary: cool it or I will summon mjolnir
