@Skippy I'm just having fun, don't mind me
That user is a medical student in Eastern Europe and he (has) asked the most inane (for a medical student) questions on Biology.SE -- this one isn't bad, but most don't show a basic understanding of the physiology
I think your edit on your question is fine now. Consciousness, even in adults, is dicey to experiment with, but I think your second question covers it

Q: Can we drop Psychiatry?

John ChristieThe field of Psychiatry is the only topic mentioned in the help that is not, itself, a science. It's like a physics site where they would include engineering or a biology Q&A site where they include medicine. While there is, of course, some overlap there are lots of engineering questions that h...

I have redone my unanswered question that has been sitting on top of the list. Constructive comments and insults are welcome.

1 hour later…
4:56 AM
@jonsca oh cool.. I need to strike that balance.. the daily questions dropped below 7 and I panicked! hahaha and don't tell me not to be like this, it's how I function and leads to productivity (some better than others ;)
@jonsca what about whippings and beatings? please hahahahaha

That fits into some of your other questions lol
@Skippy You can be however you want, but there's no need to panic for sure. Anything above 5 has been major progress

I know I'm a kinky so and so hahahahahah

Not that long ago we were at 0.9 per day, just to give you a frame of reference

re above 5 that's funny. hey we have an interesting new memeber
oooh yes 0.9.. that DOES give it a frame of reference hahaha
hey you need to thank @Damien for bringing me here... he told me about it.. I came answered a basic reference question.. then he was talking to me about the site and I came back and have been like a virus spreading through the site.. or a
bush fire??
how did your date go @jonsca

LOL to both. Pretty well, I think we've got enough to go for date #2
@Skippy I liked 2 out of the 3 a lot

5:04 AM
@jonsca nice ;)
Yes I can imagine,, the one on testosterone u didn't

I'm not sure what to do with the testosterone one, maybe if he tones down the personal experience aspect a bit
but his other answers are very carefully laid out, so I don't want to throw a wet blanket on anyone

I gave it an upvote, as combined with answers more scientific, it is interesting
nah.. I think we need to encourage people..
I know standards are important, but there will be no site to have standards without users
I think he is intelligent and has a good grasp of the scientific process... he even laid his personal experience out in a semi scientific form

He's citing papers, too

exactly
@jonsca I like the revised question. it's just the cut and run that isn't really relevant.. cut and run is drastic.. where you're comparing hoarders with people who place less value in possessions

That's my self-help aspect that I snuck in there ;) Well, not for myself, just the characters I keep running into

5:10 AM
I think a better way to put it is.. some people are "black" .. others are "white".. does the proepensity to be white spill into human relationships bla bla
it's a separate question ;)
yo'll probably have answers to both if you separate them hahahaa
I want to ask a question about how long a person can be "in love"
re the sustained biochem
not sure how to approach it

Okay, I cut and ran the cut and run aspect

Ok doky
let me browse and I'll see if I can answer it later...
hm I invited our new member here.. I am hoping he can answer it hahaha (I am so lazy)

hello
im taal

@Taal WELCOME TO OUR NEWST USER!!!!! yay
you beat me :p

LOL i wish they said that at the statistics forum
i've had alot of practice with pubmed wars, if you look at those links youll see ;p
i just treat myself like a guinea piig

5:24 AM
I had a glance.. I forbid you from going to other sites. I claim exclusive rights over your contributions hahaha

oh dude that site died when ex dubio left
he was the genius
he's somewhere around SE

@Taal oh yes.. no need to post.. I think I know who u mean.. depressed me enough

oh you know ex dubio?
lol i offered $50 to people on the forums to give me his info and they did

No sorry I thought you meant someone here who died

but i just e-mailed him

5:26 AM
ignore me

oh naw

I do quasi social experiemnts online.. to see how people will react

i am an internet marketer

Not with intramuscular injections

@Taal Pleas answer thishttp://cogsci.stackexchange.com/questions/512/do-the-neural-substrates-behind-motivation-to-retain-dispose-of-property-govern
It's driving me crazy @jonsca has been working on it for 5 years and now it's ready to be answered hahahaha
@jonsca sorry only playing :p you can smack me if you like

whats ironic
is my old roommate
her elet me pause my amazon instance ive been running for 4 hours lol
while i was writing everything

em @Taal I just saw your post, I'll be back in 2 hours, after I've read it! omfhmg

lol i gotta actually get some work done
im trying to combine three sets of data into a binary logistic algorithm
4 sets atually
the question you ask though is ironic in the fact that my roommate who was getting his PhD at vanderbilt did his thesis on stuff like that
o btw "I want to ask a question about how long a person can be "in love""
it starts out as phenylethylamine based "love"
this lasts for about a year
then it turns more into endorphins

5:34 AM
hahahahah I love your answer @Taal 'I can't post anymore links cause I don't have enough rep' thank god for that!

ironically you can actually (and yes i've done this) take a drug that allows you to take phenylethylamine (otherwise it decomposes too fast in your stomach)
and then make yourself feel "in love" chemically
yeah lol i didnt have anymore rep

@Taal u are going to take us on an unteresting ride.. I am so glad you're here

lol
just search for taal on the internet
or that forum log i made
oh god

I will go forth and post some Q&A also.. I can't keep up with you though, and that my new friend is a sweet relief
oh no.. let me look

lol i can't necessarily answr too many questions i'm poor and gotta work
MUST FIND EX DUBIO

5:45 AM
as you said you could cite references

i can cite like a motherfuckre

I am with u on that train of thought
pls do

i wish i had that pdf still
that said my testosterone
was 50000 mg/dl

I had to leave a stack site, as I got into so many brawls

lol they deleted half of my responses at crossvalidated causepeople kept telling me to go to wikipedia

5:47 AM
I am sure the way it is metabolsed intramuscular injections to natural production is not linear

it actually made my butt REALLY sore for 3 days
it was more logarithmic too...yeah
:p

I replied to yr email... ;)
yeh intramuscular injections hurt

9 hours later…

knock knco how can I let a new user find this cogsci.stackexchange.com/questions/4335/…
she posted a question and deleted it.. I was answering it, so posted another question to provide answer @JoshGitlin anyone know?

@Skippy Sorry, was in the middle of code. Found it now?

yes. she posted another question.. but it is now two questions in one
So my question answers one of them..
How are you @JoshGitlin good to see u

@Skippy I'm good thanks. Busy. Trying to get lots of work done
I owe you an email, will send later today

you owe me nothing! @JoshGitlin relax.. it's not like that.. I respect yr time

2:49 PM
she's started walking now.. sniff

hahaha

Coggy will be starting school soon
How will we cope when Coggy leaves home

Pretty well, because at that point Jin will be giving us an awesome site design :-D

Q: Design for UX.se

JinHi all. I'm Jin, the designer for the Stack Exchange sites as they graduate from the beta phase. Each site will have its own unique theme that will reflect its topic. However, all sites will share quite a bit of common elements so they feel like they're part of the Stack Exchange family. For the...

As one example
@Skippy And yes I approve of your style of speaking :-)
Jin does all the site designs when sites graduate

ty @JoshGitlin will see this Jin later.. hahahaha

LOL

2:56 PM
hahahhaaa sorry party of one hear
oops here

I need to do some work on our Meta site, and more voting, but after work. Very busy morning here
@Skippy FYI, you can edit messages in chat. Like this. By using the up arrow on your keyboard or the menu on the left of any post when you hover over it

bloody haildidin't know
i'm asking a question
hangon

cool

hehe did my first chat edit
that was my second one

Nice
@Skippy You can also reply to specific messages using the reply arrows on the right of a post, like this
Then when you hover over it, the system highlights which message it was a reply to
Useful when the conversation goes many directions at once

2:58 PM
@JoshGitlin bloody hell that is so much easier
ty

I know right!? This chat is awesome :-)
@Skippy Sure thing

NO it is wasting my time hahahahaha

LOL, nah, work is wasting mah chat time! ;-)

Q: The effects of online chat on written language skills

SkippyWith the advent of texting and online social networking. There has been a dictionary of new words and acronyms, based on abbreviations. I have noticed that I will misuse there, they're and their, hear and here... and the incidence of my grammatical errors has increased with the increase in longev...

@StevenJeuris @BenBrocka is the number of questions without an accepted answer an issue, or just questions with no answers?
Also.. can I become moderator? myplans to take over the netwrok

@Skippy I think it's questions without accepted or upvoted answers that are open

3:13 PM
ah thanks

We have an unusual definition of "unanswered", it's more like "not satisfactorily answered"

yes.. I am thinking.. we need to accept some that are not what we want as a full answer
as the site grows and we get more users... we'll get more answers
chicken egg
thingy

@Skippy Interesting!

just calculating how many IP addresses I need to create sock puppet accoutns to get daily visits fro 872 to 1500 and if selling my body will be enough to pay for all those IP accounts

@Skippy when (if) we graduate, there will be formal elections and anybody can register. Until then, the SE team appoints pro-tem moderators as they see fit, based on community suggestions
If they feel that Jeromy, Steven and I can't handle the load, they'll appoint a new mod

3:20 PM
@JoshGitlin yes yes.. but I am planning to take over the Stack netwrok bahahahhahaha

You can run for mod when we graduate, or, start a Meta question on a different beta as I did here on CogSci asking who the mods will be, and volunteering

NO, coggy and SO are more than enough

@Skippy Find a proposal on Area51 and commit. become a to user early and volunteer for Pro Tem.
OK :-)

NO
I don't have time

SO has moderator elections periodically, but the winners always have way more rep than I could ever accumulate there :-)

3:21 PM
I am following some... but am being tongue in cheek really

Oh OK :-)

I would NEVER want to attempt to be mod on SO
I can barely write a compilable program hahahaha

I wouldn't want to be a mod on SO either :-) CogSci is a perfect place for me LOL

I like it
It's been the main area of my study for my life.. I have switched to programming of late
so I have more expertise on cogsci than SO
but want to make $ out of programming

I am still a programmer first and a hobbiest in cogsci, which is why I can give more to this site as a mod than a contributor

3:23 PM
You didnt comment on my plans to create sock pupptes
I'm opposite..

Oh I approve of sock puppets we all know this! ;-)

no actually not oppostie at all
just totally different

Yeah, I understand what you mean

I know :) can I create a sock puppet account just so I can come here as a sock??
Please
How much rep do I need to come here.?
I want to be a sock.. and a kangaroo.. how can I manage both? Will we ever knoe the answer to this question? Is this a suitable question for our coggy??

I was joking about how I approve of sock puppets ;-) but in seriousness, you can legitimately have a sockpuppet assuming you never ever ever vote for your own content and don't use the sock for abuse. It's useful for asking questions you don't want associated with your main account. But it's a very slippery slope and the sock is likely to get merged in with your main account if discovered.
If you have a legitimate reason (as I did) you can flag your sockpuppet's own posts to let us mods know that it exists for a real purpose and please don't merge it

3:27 PM
NO I am meaning oyu sock puppet on Meta SO

@Skippy You need 20 rep to enter chat
@Skippy Yeah, I created that for a specific reason, to be able to use chat from two different accounts to build the XMPP chat bridge.
So I transparently made it clear what I was doing so nobody would cry foul

Yep I don't approve of sock puppets either! I am joking, because I love yr sock puppet account
u know this comment Oh the thought of you and your sock puppet cracks me up, I imagine it on your hand and you browse posts together and ask each other what you think

Because we know on Meta people love to cry foul ;-)

That was flagged so many times, LOL
Once with the message "Illegal exchange of reputation" :-p
@Skippy haha yes, I try to give that impression because I find it hysterical
I used to fight with my sock puppet in chat, it was so great LOL

omg @JoshGitlin that is hysterical!!!!
Omg are we related??

There's a show on TV here where one of the characters has a monkey puppet on her hand and she speaks through it to say what she really feels, it's very clever
Sadly the rest of the show is boring :-p

3:31 PM
hahahaha is it a children's show

No, hardly :-)
Family Tree is a documentary-style television comedy created by Christopher Guest and Jim Piddock. The series premiered on May 12, 2013, on the American pay television network HBO and appeared on the British channel BBC Two in July 2013. Guest, Piddock, Karen Murphy, Deborah Oppenheimer, and Mario Stylianides serve as the show's executive producers. hey you need to look at the link on my profile hangon 'll go get it
Mr. Squiggle was Australia's longest-running children's television series, and the name of the title character from that ABC show. The show has been presented in many formats, from five minute slots to a one-and-a-half hour variety show featuring other performers, and has had several name changes, originally airing as Mr. Squiggle and Friends. History Mr. Squiggle was created by Norman Hetherington, and the character first appeared on the Children's TV Club on ABC TV, but was spun-off into his own programme which first aired on 1 July 1959. I will go and post some posts to help coggy start school

Q: Do we need private messages?

whatI guess this has been discussed on other SE sites, but I'm interested in the opinions on cogsci.SE specifically: I feel this site misses a system to send private messages to other members. People who commit to a site and become members of its community, sometimes want to interact with the other...

5:18 PM
@JoshGitlin Did you update your Scratch compiler?

5:35 PM
@jonsca I did not! Also I still haven't tested @StevenJeuris 's mind control software yet :-(

I've got a reminder of my one night stand with that wench Laevo every time I hit CAPS LOCK by mistake ;) j/k
I really do want to test it, but I keep forgetting, and I didn't start on Monday :(

@JoshGitlin :-(

@StevenJeuris is it too late now? :-(

@JoshGitlin Every day you wait it is a bit too late, but not too late yet no.

I'll do it this afternoon I promise

5:44 PM
Thing is it will become harder to find time to compile the results afterwards, but skipping a few days isn't entirely unheard of. :)
Testing it initially to know what it does should take about ... 1 hour, for a technical savvy guy like you perhaps only 30m.
The manual ain't long.

I know I've asked about this before, but did anyone ever approach the Comm team to try to get what's old rep back? It's obviously not urgent, but he's done a lot.
(random interjection, but I wanted to ask before I forgot again)
(since his avatar was on the screen)
@StevenJeuris I keep forgetting about the manual!! :( I just like playing with it on my touch screen and whipping the day past in one fell swoop

@StevenJeuris Installing now, will test after lunch!

@JoshGitlin You're the best! (in this room)
;p

@jonsca I haven't but will
@StevenJeuris haha thanks :-)

@jonsca Did not know that was possible.

5:48 PM
It's a manual job, I think, so they may not be happy about doing it

@jonsca I think you mean one swoosh. (I need to add sounds) :)

Nike Laevo, whip your day by with the swoosh

Hi all!

@Skippy Hi Skippy.

5:55 PM
How's our girl Coggy going? lol I love the idea of the site being our child
wooo we only need one more user greater than 200 to make that part of our Beta graduations

In that case I've been a bad parent lately.

@StevenJeuris well I didn't want to say anything just point and b00h behind yr back lol
is the b word allowed here??
@jonsca I saw there is an answer on that long suffereing question of yrs!! I was so happy to see that

@Skippy Until it is flagged, it is. :)

OH oky doky

But I doubt many people flag chat messages in this room. (Not an invitation you a$$holes.)

5:59 PM
I don't think anyone will flag it. Just say "bizzle", it's so much more gangsta
