@AnnaLear: I must confess you I will drink a coffee today. I returned by 15 days sober chip already

@Pierre303, if you are trying to cut a habit, you might be able to buy caffeine chewing gum...
@ThorbjørnRavnAndersen: I quit smoking with nicotine chewing gum. It works ;)
What gum should I chew if I want to quit chewing gum?
12:33
@Pierre303, I
'@Pierre303, I'm sure it helped. Perhaps a caffeine one will help tea or coffee drinkers
@PavelShved used chewing gum
someone elses
@PavelShved, depends on how bad your habit is
13:20
@PavelShved chewing tobacco
13:31
jeez i'm just kidding...
14:04
I found that chewing gum helps as soon as you have the energy to get trough the emotional addiction of the thing. I was getting my first daughter, so I had that force.

Never been a coffee drinker. My preferred caffeine source is pop.
Am I the only coder who's not a caffeine junky?
user2334
15:34
@HedgeMage I use caffeine when I want to go to sleep. When I'm coding, I try to stay clean.
15:48
I mostly go for warm drinks these days, to be honest. Tea's great. My heart can't quite take the caffeine abuse like it used to anymore. :) I still like the flavour of coffee, though, so I'm trying to find decent decaf now.
16:26
I've switched to drinking water at work ever since they took away the free pop dispenser.
16:51
I'm a tea drinker myself, but I'm not fond of black tea... I used to drink it a lot, but now I find both the taste and the caffeine level a bit strong.
17:10
@Michael I like your recursive method of quitting chewing gum. :-)
/me makes a discovery of the day: tea contains caffeine! Didn't know that before reading today's chat.
@PavelShved It does, but in much lower concentrations than coffee.
The worst offender, black tea, has about 20% the caffeine of an equivalent amount of coffee.
Oolongs are about 10-15%, Greens about 5%, Whites less than 1%
Some tisanes/infusions are often referred to as teas, but aren't: most herbal "teas" (including rooibus) have no caffeine at all, but a maté has as much caffeine as coffee.

@MarkTrapp sorry about that question, I was hoping it would turn out better ..
user2334
@CRoss I was just writing up a comment to see if there's another way to ask it (not sure it's saveable as is).
user2334
The issue is asking for a list of recommendations for programmers is too broad a scope: general "let's create a list of X (for programmers)" have been ruled off-topic as not inviting real answers.
user2334
I think there's two ways to try to reask the question: one is to take a different tac from the question everyone thought it was a duplicate of (i.e. is joining a group important?): ask how one can make a decision about which group to join (i.e. teach a man to fish instead of giving him a fish)
@MarkTrapp "what's important in an professional society"?
user2334
The other is to go into the specific problem you're trying to solve as a programmer that's got you asking about which groups you should join. That would focus the question to invite specific answers instead of guessing about what might be applicable (and avoid the really lame answers like "Toastmasters")
user2334
21:02
@CRoss Yeah, exactly
yeah, I am a Toastmaster, and that was a lame answer
Should I have asked this on Programmers.SE instead of SO?

Q: How do I grok NHibernate's QueryOver API?

Brant BobbyI've run into the limits of what NHibernate 3.0's LINQ provider is capable of and decided it's time to learn about one of the more powerful (or at least feature-complete) options: the QueryOver API. The problem is, I have zero experience with ICriteria, and all of the tutorials I've been able t...

user2334
@Brant I would personally love a question like that. If only all of our "Can you give me a book about X?" questions were worded like that
user2334
I can talk to the SO moderators to migrate it if you'd like
That'd be nice.
user2334
21:05
@CRoss If you want to take the first option ("What's important in a professional society?") a new question would probably work best, as the answers would be invalidated. If you want to focus your hunt down to your specific problem, you could revise your question and I can delete the irrelevant answers
@MarkTrapp I'll do a new question
user2334
All right, cool. Thanks for understanding. :)
user2334
@Brant [status-completed]
Cool, my first migration.
There should be a badge for that, if only it wouldn't encourage bad behavior, which goes against the whole point of badges.
user2334
Heh yeah
user2334

27% of all SO migrations are rejected as closed or deleted
user2334
@CRoss I'm going to leave a comment on the question so others know why it was closed, just so you know I'm not trying to harass you or anything :P
Well, they should...Programmers is SO's toilet bowl, after all.
@MarkTrapp dude, it's not like I never do this myself :-P
user2334
Just making sure :P I always feel weird about taking mod action on non-P.SE mods' questions
