You're right about 1850101 - I see that somebody might vote to close 16946324 as missing context.

I don't think it is possible to merge only some of the answers. If two questions are merged, all of the answers are copied.

Perhaps 1646324 and 1850101 can remain both open. (In fact, 1850101 does not ask about continuous solutions. Although the solution given there transforms this to Cauchy equation - so one could also find continuous solutions from this.)
