@ArtGertner boiled linseed oil is used to protect wood. The half-litre bottle I have is from a UK manufacturer, did cost about 30 EUR here. I don't know if it's the same stuff people claim to use a spoke prep, but would not be surprised, since it's been a staple in every household in the early days of bicycles.

Might be worth a question: is commercial 'spoke prep' boiled linseed oil the same as boild linseed oil used for woodworking.
@Criggie damn, forget the copper thing, the stuff is Australian! It will work for you in NZ. But here on the other side of the world your counter-rotating anti-seize will work on left threads only.
