yeah - but you can't use your arms, shoulders, back muscles, any part of your core.
its all legs.
you can't even balance with your body weight because you're sitting on it.
the only thing you can move quickly to adjust body weight is your head. So you telegraph your turn long before you start turning, and you can't push the bike around under you like you can with a wedgie :))
@Michael if you get the chance, try and ride one. Its a great way of feeling like a newbie all over again.
I find that I get through the commute in about the same time as the road bike, but I'm less tired. Downside, I can't carry much stuff on the bent - had to make a bag specifically for the work laptop and that's not ideal.
Once someone sees me riding on the bent, they definitely notice. But being lower its much easier to "hide" behind a car. I've had a couple occasions where someone has turned across traffic in a hurry and only seen me at the last second.
No
You'd have to fit a special carrier rack for a start
Not possible to have dedicated racks? Like this one: nazca-ligfietsen.nl/blob/… ? Or yours is too low to accomodate such racks? (this example is taken for a 'bent with 2 700C wheels)
An SUV driver went to a farmer and apologised for running over the chicken in front of the farmhouse. The farmer went out looked and said dismissively: "Don't worry those aren't ours. We don't have any flat chicken."
Perhaps - but its all between your legs so there's not a lot of width. Items would have to be on top or below - the sides are not available. You can't really reach most of that area while riding, and a lot of it is in front of the wheel which moves the balance.... I felt a difference when putting the front light and gopro out at the BB.
@Criggie only a test ride after service/assembly type basis
and briefly on a friend's rans screamer
the first shop i worked at, we tried selling the burley koosah and i think one other burley model, which were nice bikes but kinda suffered from being made in the US so the frames were nice and the parts hung on them were garbage to hit a price point
and i've handled special orders for a couple sun ones over the years
i like a lot of things about recumbents but overall i like being able to take road bikes where they're not supposed to go
-grin- I know what you mean... there's something about keeping up with a full squish MTB when you're just on some rubboishy old road bike with no suspension other than your legs and your skill
