Nice - yeah that's fairly common.
I wonder if a through-axle bike is stiff enough to do without the right hand seat stay completely.
That way a drive belt just flips into place with no joiners needed in the frame. It would still have the chainstay to resist compression from the chain

Like Cannondale's lefty fork?

yeah - but on the rear, with a through-axle, and a conventional left-side frame shape. Would allow chain or belt with no modifications at all.
the rear is still supported on both sides but only the left /NDS side would have a seat stay

I remember seeing a bike at NAHBS when it was local several years back that was set up almost that way, but it was the left side that was open and right side had stays.
I think the bike builder mostly said he did it because he could, but it also made dealing with flats easier.

Yeah, i think the green one there is exactly the bike I saw.
Interesting solution to requiring a cut-out in the stay for a belt.
I think I prefer that to the other solution I've seen, which is raising the attachment point of the chain stay above the BB so that the belt simply passes behind it.

goddamn flats.....
I'm tempted to go for teh spendy Almotion
Chanign the rear tube on the bent is a 20 minute process on the side of the road.
And I had two of them yesterday.
