This turned out to be a much more interesting question than it appears on the surface.
If you asked me a few years ago, i'd have said 'easy'. SRAM made X5/7/9/0 chainsets in 42/28, and even if you wanted to mix/match road/mtb componentes, exact actuation made it easy.
It seems these chainsets are now obsolete, SRAM have abandoned 2x and I cant find a good Shimano replacement either.
Is there really no longer a good solution to what should be a fairly common gearing?
