@Carpetsmoker I arrived at the thread via google with the same problem as OP and my solution was that I found an alternative plugin that solved that problem. I decided that I would rather use a plugin that offers that functionality than maintain a fork or add random hacks to my vimrc. The accepted answer literally says

>It seems to work but I don't know how reliable it is.
(well i can't figure out markdown quotes)
So it seems reasonable that someone else might come to the same conclusion and find it useful. Maybe not. But it seems a bit overboard to delete it. Why not let voting decide if it's useful?
"That, more than anything else, is why I deleted it. I would have edited it with some more information on how to use the plugin if it was a solution to the answer."
The plugin literally says
(hell, how do you make quote markup?)

I think you need a space after the >
> this is a quote
>this is not

Sometimes, I post links to alternative plugins that also solve the issue at hand. Most of the time, it's to my plugins, shame on me. However, I always try to find a solution or to explain why the problem is observed and what could be done (even if the answer is "contact the maintainer of the plugin you're trying to use").

@Carpetsmoker I think we might have to agree to disagree on this point. From my perspective, if the person was unaware of a plugin that solved the solution when asking the question, then I think it's always useful to be informed of the plugin, even if that still means they have to figure out how to use the plugin.
In your analogy, if the question was "I want to replace my motherboard but I can't seem to get the screws out with my fingers" then "use a screwdriver" is helpful even if you don't describe what a screwdriver is or how to use one.
I absolutely agree that if you also explain precisely how to use the plugin to fix the problem then that would be a better answer. But deciding which answer is best is what votes are for.

@Rich, (I agree with you). Votes are for giving a better visibility to the best answers. But often, where plugins are concerned, they are given to the more popular/known plugins. IOW, they mostly reflect the user base.

@Rich I think it's mostly an academic issue; the amount of times that I've deleted a "plugin only" answer can be counted on a single hand. A hand that was in a horrible accent involving rabid raccoons and is now missing several digits.
@jsuth I had another look at those two plugins, and the thing that I missed before is that they're both plugins to provide integration with a ranger program. I just thought they were two independent filemanager plugins with similar names
So it is a "here's a plugin which will fix the program"-type of answer, rather than a "here's a completely different plugin to replace the plugin you were having problems with"
I've undeleted the answer, and updated the verbiage a bit to make that clearer
Thanks ;-)

@Carpetsmoker Another good reason to put more explanation in one's plugin-link answers ;)
@Carpetsmoker Hurrah! All's well that ends well!
