This room is now two years old. Thanks to all mods who replied to inquiries and request by various users made in this room.
The room info shows almost 8k messages in these 730 days. I'd say that shows quite a high activity (considering that this room is more for asking about various problems - especially the ones which need moderators attention - than about chit-chat).

@DanielFischer if it makes you feel any better I undeleted the posts and retracted the close votes. I personally think most if not all of my questions are flawed. None of them really make sense for me to have asked in hindsight. They all just seem like things I shouldn't need to ask. But I removed the close votes and such if it makes you more comfortable.

@MartinSleziak Unfortunately there are some users frequenting this room (or have been frequenting this rooms at times) which are prone to off topic chit chat. So I'd estimate that maybe half of these messages are "off topic".

8:38 AM
@AsafKaragila I think that it is large enough number even if only half of the messages fits the room description: "about moderation, spam, troublesome users and other issues you need ♦ input on."

Don't be too hard on yourself, @Asaf ;-)

@quid I'm afraid he's referring to us.

@DanielFischer being a mod of the site you are always on-topic here by definition. :-)

@quid but if you aren't discussing a problem... it's "off topic".
:p

3:32 PM
@quid It sounded serious, I know.

Should such an answer be in the MathJax tutorial - we have separate questions on meta about s.

A: MathJax basic tutorial and quick reference

Jim ThioI have no idea why no body put this in the answer. You need GUI math editor. I found an okay one here http://visualmatheditor.equatheque.net/ I found another one here http://camdenre.github.io/src/app/html/EquationEditor This one is free but I haven't tried that http://visualmatheditor.equath...

And even if somebody decides to rework it into a reasonable answer, I do not think that picture should stay there.

@MartinSleziak Nice question, and bringing up the issue. I don't think it belongs there, and would be a better fit in meta posts related to editor(s). And I think the pic should go. But perhaps you're not looking for a poll; and shall let one of the mods answer your question.

@MartinSleziak fwiw, I voted to delete. It's misplaced there and that thread is rather too busy without such stuff.
And by now the answer is reposted at a better place anyway;

Thanks for the reply. As you probably noticed, the OP reposted the same answer here: WYSIWYG for math formulas?.

@Asaf I would now gladly praise your prose if only it were not off-topic.

At least for that question it can be considered as an answer. (Leaving grammar and memegenerator aside.)

@MartinSleziak yes, I only could not hold back on pressing "enter" and made a second line.
Driving up the message count.

I'll wait a bit - but very likely I will vote to delete, too. (But I guess the post was made in good faith.)

7:00 PM
Yes, it's not spam I think and maybe even useful to somebody.

@DanielFischer Why am I seeing YouKnowMe's user image in a few chats, like here?
I'm not complaining, just curious?

@amWhy I don't know.

@DanielFischer Now, after refreshing all the three chats in which I saw is identicon, they remain, but then are dimmed/cloudy/....Can't find the perfect description (greyed out?)

@amWhy That just means they haven't talked for a while. If you move your mouse pointer over the image, it - lights up?

Yes it lights up...but since he chose to be suspended, I haven't seen him, not even in the shadows. Just curious.
BTW @DanielFischer I just change my user image, until early Saturday only...If it's a problem, I'll change it.
Not the one with the Big question mark, but another, where the display of new identicons seem to be delayed. I couldn't resist trying; if even I can retain it for 12 hours?

8:34 PM
@amWhy I don't see a problem with it. But "D) All of the above." is missing.

Hahaha! that's great, @Daniel!
@DanielFischer I've wondered about the following ever since I learned that @username... fails to ping the intended user. What punctuation can we use, if any? E.g. Did you get the ping from my comment directly above (! following immediately after username. What about @username? or @username.
Or perhaps you can refer me to the President of Pings ?

I think ordinary punctuation (,.!:;) is stripped. Not sure about - or parentheses @amWhy-().
I forgot ?, I think that's also stripped.

Well, I see that @username-() doesn't ping... @DanielFischer? (This is just a test.)

That did. Does @amWhy() ping?

Yes, @DanielFischer: got your ping just now.
Maybe the first two characters are stripped, but with ellipsis, when typed as periodperiodperiod (three characters)typed with not spaces, it doesn't.

8:54 PM
pong

Well, I'm thinking my theory might be right : one or two non-alphanumeric characters, but not three.
I also tried editing my username to am? but it wouldn't take $\ddot \frown$
Anyway, @DanielFischer, thanks for playing "ping-pong" with me!

Well, I'm too slow for table-tennis, so ping-pong is the best I can do in that direction.

9:42 PM
Parenthesis are different from hyphens and dots, as the former can never be part of a user name. @amWhy)))))
This should still have worked.
Yet @DanielFischer- does not work.

Yes it did work, @quid!!! I guess you're on to something, @quid.

@quid-(

No does not work @Daniel.

What about @quid..

Only one dot works!

9:46 PM
Okay! @quid^!

@quid I know, 'twas a quidmoticon.

Now that my theory of pinging as been thoroughly toppled...

The system is that the string is formed from @ up to the first space or character that can not be part of a user name. Then from that string the final character is scraped if it is a symbol commonly used as interpunctuation. Then matching is performed. (The scraping is not iterated, so only a single point is scraped.)
@DanielFischer looks a bit like a fish @quid-( though not like a squid.

Well, thanks to @DanielFischer and @...quid, I now know more about pinging than I did yesterday. Well, back to hunting for a better avatar! ;-)

@quid Like a <°(((><?

9:53 PM
That's a good one!
Still not a squid though.
But then I do not much like squids.

My current avatar to be changed in 24 hours.
@DanielFischer Feel free to delete, because the image in the mod's chat is probably "off topic"!

I guess it is. Also, it's not pleasant to look at.

@DanielFischer You're quite right.
