@Seth did you leave comments on them?
@jrg No, do you need me to?
@FEichinger Your video. You implied it froze or something.
@Seth Oh, yeh, that's a nogo. It didn't freeze, my hard drive just said "Nope, I'm full."
That's what I get for having less than three gigs of space ... sigh
And I only realized that while it was rendering ... Sooo ... yeh ... Wasn't fast enough at cleaning up.
jrg
jrg
@Seth no. I was just wondering.
00:19
@FEichinger OK. Go figure.
@jrg Wasn't sure exactly what to say...
jrg
jrg
standard link spamming comment.

Oli
00:50
Anyone who claims to last longer than 17 seconds on Super Hexagon is a liar and a cheat. (I will amend this comment as I gradually suck less).
jrg
jrg
looks fun.
looks like a simplification of the logic in audiosurf.
@Oli Looks cool.
that's a compliment btw
Except for the $2 part.
Oli
Oli
00:54
@Seth it's in the latest humble bundle
Dynamite Jack is pretty fun too.
And I'm fairly sure Beat Hazard Ultra is what doctors use to diagnose epilepsy.
I have a steep deadline for work. 9 AM tomorrow I have to have some disclosed malware sample turned in to a python script or metasploit module.
Not time for gam-eey or this infernal shoveling
@Oli So, in the cleanup script, I get a question, VTC it. It gets closed. Question stays in my queue. Is that how it's supposed to work?
Oli
Oli
@Seth No, the site is supposed to check all the currently allocated questions and work out what's going on. What's the ID of the question and I'll manually update it to see what it says about it.
jrg
jrg
ah, the things a simple google search tell you about your boss.

Updating 164867 - Prolific PL2303 and Ubuntu 12.04 (english): open
Yeah there's definitely something funky in my implementation of the the API
@jrg is that directed at not so humble old me?
jrg
jrg
@AbrahamVanHelpsing no. was actually just a random side comment about my boss.
okay. i thought i was going to have to carry on a conversation about some things in defense of my current employer.
jrg
jrg
oh, i don't dig into internet peoples business.
most of the time.
Thanks @Oli for checking it.
01:05
simple question. does the super hexagon game dynamically generate stages or it's all pre-recorded audio?
Oli
Oli
@Seth No, they've removed closed_reason from the API. I was using that key to work out how the question had been dealt with. It is not obvious what I should do from here.
load the post and grep it?
jrg
jrg
wow, finally broke 3K rpm. i thought i'd never hit that point, cleaning my fan did amazing things.
@Oli There isn't an alternative?
Oli
Oli
@Seth I'm sure there is. I just need to find it in the API
jrg
jrg
yeah, fun isn't it?
Oops, slid a space in there.
jrg
jrg
heh, happens to us all.
Fixed hardware platform for linux accomplishes most of those things.
jrg
jrg
also, tossed some stuff in our irc channel, when you get a moment off from homework
Oli
Oli
01:16
@Seth Well I can't find anything. I've asked on StackApps but consider the cleanup site broken until I get a positive answer.
Yeah, I can't find it either :/
Well, at least we're closing old questions.
Oli
Oli
It's still in the API documentation, so I'll change that to a bug report
@Oli Maybe you could hack it with api.stackexchange.com/docs/advanced-search
Might be a lot of work though :/
Oli
Oli
@Flabricorn Sounds like he moved to OSX five years ago, at least at heart if not formally until now. I don't know - if I had to battle wifi drivers in 2008 and insisted on using Suse, yeah, I might hate Linux by now too.
jrg
jrg
> Or in other works, how old people forget the idealism they had when they were younger. Admit it, your are old :P
01:26
@Oli: You have an API question?
@jrg Idealism is right no matter what. There's just a desire for self preservation that sets in when puberty wears off.
Oli
Oli
@GeorgeEdison Yeah, something's broken.
Or at the very least, behaving in an inconvenient or undocumented fashion.
jrg
jrg
@AbrahamVanHelpsing Are you saying I'm going to regret using ubuntu when i'm old and gray? ;)
That wasn't my intention. It might have stable drivers for the majority of hardware by then...
Yeah, looks like a bug to me.
01:28
@jrg Not without the cost of stubborn people pushing through it anyway though
@Oli: You of course mean closed_date and closed_reason (note the 'd'), right?
jrg
jrg
@AbrahamVanHelpsing heh.
@GeorgeEdison it worked before.
Oli
Oli
@GeorgeEdison Almost certainly - yeah I was just writing off the top of my head. Neither key is in the output :)
jrg
jrg
and there is no closed_reason or close_reason
btw, i appreciate the distinction on old and gray. my ex-wife have me my first gray hair in my goatee several years ago
jrg
jrg
01:30
i'm told that i'm going bald, slowly.
i tell people that it's the printers, and if they want to ensure my peace, health and long life they'll buy standards-compliant monster printers.
or get me an intern to do it. go figure, they got me the intern. ;P
@jrg Me too :P
jrg
jrg
@GeorgeEdison it must be a homeschooler thing.
Oli
Oli
If I had to work with printers, I'd have no hair left. I'd probably have thrown all the printers out of windows too, so I'd probably not have the job for long either. There's something about printers... The one bit of home computing that refuses to just stop being suck and be awesome instead.
I know other homeschooled individuals that didn't have this problem...
...so it must just be homeschoolers that learned programming.
@Oli Printers are probably the most unreliable piece of equipment in existence.
jrg
jrg
01:33
@AbrahamVanHelpsing yup.
Oli
Oli
@AbrahamVanHelpsing I have done that with more than one printer. It's just messy with modern printers. Too much plastic.
jrg
jrg
@GeorgeEdison or male homeschoolers who like penguins.
Wait, @GeorgeEdison is was home schooled?
jrg
jrg
yes
@Seth Yes.
01:40
Oh. Nice :)
I really want to get Git to compile with the Android NDK.
Just face it, Android is stupid.
Google.
jrg
jrg
i'm ok with android
i'm ok with google, to a certain extent
01:44
Oh, as am I. But developing for Android is a pain in the arse.
jrg
jrg
oh, ok
Having to deal with both Java and Google is, well, stupid.
Opinions of a programmer.
They are weird individual.
Programmers or their opinions?
Both.
01:46
Trudat.
@jrg What is one reason why you like Ruby?
Quote from a Codecademy group discussion:
jrg
jrg
@Seth Only one?
I can only pick one?
> It's [JavaScript] one of the newer programming languages, though.
@jrg You can give several if you want.
Who doesn't know javascript?
or at least some of it...
01:49
Considering JavaScript "new" in comparison to HTML5 and the like is simply ridiculous.
jrg
jrg
@Seth 1. Community. Yeah, they are a bunch of a-holes sometimes, but it's a good group of people (collectively). 2. Rails. 3. Testing tools. 4. Expressive human-like language. 5. Someone got me a free book, and it was love at first type.
for technical reasons, 6. jruby.
@jrg Soooo ... Ruby bought your love with a book. Gosh, you're cheap.
jrg
jrg
@FEichinger hey, python didn't stick when i tried it back in 2009.
@jrg interesting.
@jrg python isn't supposed to stick. It's supposed to bite and poison you until you give in.
Quite literally, even.
01:52
O_O
@Seth Hm?
@jrg whitespace importance turned me off initially as well
1 min ago, by FEichinger
@jrg python isn't supposed to stick. It's supposed to bite and poison you until you give in.
jrg
jrg
@AbrahamVanHelpsing ruby cares a little bit,
it's more of a readable code thing though, in ruby.
@Seth Yeh? What about it?
01:54
it later became obvious that python was not spelled pythan and that it was awesome. ruby is more an art form than a programming language imo
jrg
jrg
indent by 2, no tabs, always spaces.
@FEichinger O_O. Just O_O.
@Seth What? I like puns and metaphors.
sigh.
01:56
shrigh
@AbrahamVanHelpsing No.
Simply no.
people coin new terms all the time. some fellow blogging decided that SDLC didn't encompass secure software development lifecycle and decided to coin secure sdlc since proper sdlc is inherently insecure.
i reached for the napalm
jrg
jrg
hah
See, that's why I keep my long-standing stance of "Mankind is inherently stupid."
01:59
I never get disappointed and I often sometimes get pleasantly surprised by the lack of said stupidity.
@FEichinger Napalm certainly was a bad idea...
back to super hexagon...does anyone notice a monochrome and transparency UI design? i sure do...
@Seth Well, since a bunch of soldiers were stupid enough to smoke while in the vicinity ... I think it worked out pretty well for rooting out idiots. The people who got targeted are pretty much collateral damage in that regard.
Oh, how I love twisting US govt. logic around.

Q: How can I add a statusnet account in gwibber in 13.04?

nathwillI'd like to add my StatusNet account (not identi.ca) to Gwibber, which seems to have this ability, judging by the gwibber-service-statusnet package. The trouble is that when you go to add an account, instead of the old Gwibber account screen, it now takes me to the central Online Accounts setti...

Its for 13.04.

i know.
but it's a legit question, and one that fits in line with the new online account sthing.
I see this on 12.10 as well, it's not just 13.04. — jrg 17 secs ago
shoot me, i'm going senile.
So far so good...
Linking C shared library libgit2.so
...and then it fails on the test suite. But still - not bad for an out-of-box cross-compilation.
Time to fire up Eclipse. <-- wish I didn't have to say that :P
@GeorgeEdison but you did, so... lol?
02:35
Yeah - try developing an Android app without it :P

Cross-compiling OpenSSL for arm-linux-androideabi...
So far so good.
Oh... I wonder if I needed to specify any special command to ensure static libraries were produced.
Here's hoping that I didn't need to.
recompile the raspi kernel without specifying any additional commands/args and you get a tip of the hat
You know... one year ago, if you would have told me I would be cross-compiling for ARM, I would have given you a very funny look. Yet here I am doing it.
It finished!! \o/
Does that mean its done?
It's done. (The OpenSSL build for ARM.)
YAY
04:01
Next step, get the libgit2 library to find and use the static OpenSSL libs I just built.
One thing's for sure, this is really going to bloat the size of the app I distribute.
OpenSSL + libgit2 = 4.5 MB already.
you mean like libqt on a gtk based system?
Argh...
-- Could NOT find OpenSSL, try to set the path to OpenSSL root folder in the system variable OPENSSL_ROOT_DIR (missing: OPENSSL_LIBRARIES OPENSSL_INCLUDE_DIR)
Except I did set OPENSSL_ROOT_DIR.
04:18
@RolandiXor Hell is used as a curse word.
And your mod powers killed a perfectly good edit.
@Seth not universally.
A right edit.
@RolandiXor bah.
It's the same with damn.
In fact, both are fringe cases.
It's one of those "we can't please everyone" situations.
So remove it good grief.
It doesn't hurt anyone not there.
But then we'd have to do it every time someone uses the word hell or damn, for example...
04:21
If Oli wants to swear, I don't care that much. What I do care is you rejecting a good edit for such a silly reason.
Anyway if you want, go remove it.
@Seth that's subjective.
it's a silly edit...
@RolandiXor And we should. That is the whole point of Jeff's answer.
@Seth I read Jeff's answer.
@RolandiXor I have.
04:22
Remember, we're here for the community, not the individual.
Personally, I don't see hell and damn as curse words... and sheesh - I should - I'm a Christian.
Most "normal" people don't either.
@RolandiXor Like I said, if he wants to use that word I don't care, but someone else must.
That is the point.
Actually, just because one person (after all this time) did, doesn't mean it had to be edited.
Are we arguing for such a silly thing? cheez.
It's not in the region of "fsck" or something...
@jokerdino I'm just dumbfounded it caused an issue.
@jokerdino The point is not the "word" the point is the edit was rejected.
04:24
However, I'm quite sure there would be no issue had another mod rejected it.
That's ridiculous.
@Seth so I must approve edits "just because"?
Then I'd not be doing my job.
@Seth I would have rejected it for being too minor.
IMHO there were multiple reasons to reject it. I chose one.
@RolandiXor No, because there was nothing wrong with the edit. If you have a problem with it, roll it back.
@jokerdino That is not to minor.
04:26
This is silly...
I gotta go, but sheesh.
Aha, I finally figured it out.
And I know why it's an issue.
I feel if someone else had brought this up it would be different.
@Seth I wouldn't make an issue out of this.
It doesn't make the world a better place. :>
04:27
It doesn't make a difference either.
It's not like he corrected an error, and I rejected it.
He made an edit that didn't need to be made... and I rejected it within reason.
I hate to jump in here, but I finally got libgit2 to find my static build of OpenSSL.
@GeorgeEdison Cheers lol
Okay, everyone hang on to your seats.
Working on android app I presume?
No really, I mean it. Grab something sturdy.
I... George Edison... am learning Java. Sort of.

crying
Yeah, I know. Go ahead and start throwing the stones now.
Stones? Planets!
Okay, throw that if it makes you feel better.
Digging a trench for your burial
But you really ought to be offering me sympathy.
04:30
jk :D
(Isn't anyone going to star my announcement? :P)
@GeorgeEdison who has forced you to tarnish yourself with this infernal excuse for a programming language?
The silly people who decided that Android would use Java as the main language for writing applications.
Then they must pay!
Make them learn Erlang.
Make them learn Cobol :P
04:32
and Haskell!
Thankfully I can write a good chunk of the app in C and use JNI to pull it all together.
And then they must write 10000 lines of F#
Even C is better than Java.
@GeorgeEdison nice

@TheLordofTime they can refund it, yep

@RolandiXor confirmed.

@Rishee no prob :)

@GeorgeEdison I'm not sure whether I should feel sorry for you or not.

@GeorgeEdison I'm also not sure if I should hit you over the head with a box-full of cotton or not, just because.
04:59
Hey guys, Is there any way to enable desktop notification with sound for stack chat in google chrome? So that whenever a new message comes a popup and a sound alert me ...
well the sound is controlled separately from chrome
up at the top of the sidebar, theres buttons for "all rooms" and "site rooms" and what not
next to that should be a speaker
click that, then you can choose your sound notification settings.
@TheLordofTime Doesn't work for Chrome.
Just firefox.
@Seth its working here on chrome for windows though
so your statement is false, it DOES work for Chrome.
05:04
@RolandiXor We only try to correct those we care about right? ;)
@RolandiXor hits with a box of fluff
@TheLordofTime on Ubuntu?
@TheLordofTime What kind of Linux user are you!?!?!?! :P
@Seth heh
@RolandiXor Fail to Install: insufficient perms
@Seth at regional Emerg. Management center.
no linux here.
05:05
Anyway, it doesn't work in Chromium on Ubuntu.
@Seth Chromium isn't exactly chrome, though.
THEY ARE DIFFERENT!
DIFFERENCES IN SOFTWARE MATTER!
True 'nough.
Yeah but desktop notifications used to work in Chromium.
Hm, install the chromify-osd thing?
that may be a good idea ;P
05:06
I think why it doesn't work now is because of this site integration feature than Unity web apps gives us. It works in Firefox because it's enabled by default, but I think you have to turn it on in Chromium (IIRC).
@RolandiXor I thought we were talking about the sound...
@Seth oh my mistake
I get desktop notifications, just no sound.
@Seth doesn't it ping you or something?
I get sound
05:07
or do you have the sound disabled?
@jokerdino Popup: yes. Sound: no.
Sound has never worked in Chromium for me.
it ought to. but idk
That is, for notifications.
Hmm.. if we close something, can the answers still be edited?
Weird.
@Seth yep
@Seth yep
05:10
It's if we lock it that they can't.
only if it locked, it cant be edited.
P.S. that was so cool :D
OK, that's what I thought.
Modi Mind Link?
Sound had worked with me in Chromium last month when I tested last, with this chat.
on my Ubuntu laptop, I use chromium
since firefox needs to burn.
05:12
is there a cloud solution for this?
or anyone has Big Data?
wow, megalag.
@TheLordofTime is that why you are burning in your avatar :D?
/Iwin
@RolandiXor no, you lose
there's no fire in my avatar
YOU SHOULD TOTALLY STOP THAT AND USE JQUERY /Iwin

The very first Java question I have asked on Stack Overflow:

Q: Android JVM is looking for .so file with '.0' extension - why?

George EdisonI have started developing a very simple Android application that consists of three parts: the Java application itself a prebuilt shared library (we'll call it libfoo) another shared library that uses the prebuilt library (we'll call it libfoowrapper) The filesystem looks something like this: ...

might help.
Looks like the .0 just means version zero.
Yeah, I know.
What I don't understand is why the Android JVM is looking for it.
Oh OK.
Anyway, I'm clear.
