I did think that wording was a little weird.

Q: Wired Network not working on Ubuntu 11.10 + Strange Behavior with Manual Conf

Mauricio CruzI'm new to Ubuntu - to be honest this is my very first day trying it... and I've already spent hours trying to make my wired connection work. I've been using this wired network with Windows and OSX, and in both systems I also had some trouble trying to connect in the past (and the troubleshooter...

I don't get how people vote.
Hay, everyone. I have an old PowerBook which has been happily running Ubuntu Server for a few months. Now I want to repartition the hard drive and install Ubuntu Client, just temporarily…
Thing is, the whole thing is an encrypted LVM, and I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to do it. Can anyone help?
You don't just want to reformat it then?
No; I want to keep my existing installation intact.
I see...
I'm afraid I can't help you :/
I almost want to star that...

Oh, okay. Neat. ^^
I would rephrase the title to include something about LVM though.
and that...is what a onebox looks like
02:43
"How can I install Ubuntu Client on an encrypted LVM partition" <-- maybe?
the best solution imo is to boot it as live and mount partitions. then install with them mounted. it mostly works.
Maybe? Doesn't say anything about the existing one, though.
Yeah..
Titles can be hard.
Ah, that edit looks good @BlacklightShining
Yeep…you're not supposed to “How do I…?”, either. x.x

@jokerdino: SPAM!
07:05
@jokerdino The account should probably be deleted, as this users spams across the SE network. See their OnStartups profile, and their spam sockpuppet there.
Same situation with this user (probably a sockpuppet of that one, see "her" question -- also, there is a user with this name on OnStartups too, who made a similar post).
Similar spam has apparently been posted on Super User.
Also here, see text in that page from these search results. The users involved with this (not including the user who answered that question, as that particular answer was not spam) should probably be banned network-wide.
@IgnitE lol you got there on the shutter thing before me :).
Deleted my answer.
I'm going to sleep now.
@RolandiXor: There is still one spam left!
Please do not edit spam.
@RolandiXor I agree. Maybe another answer here that clearly states that would help? I'm not sure if that would be appropriate but I think people are often unaware that editing spam makes handling it more complicated and doesn't significantly contribute to decreasing the "value" associated with spamming SE.

@IgnitE Thx. Also related (linked to in that post):

how will we make them do that?

So if they port Generations to linux, we get a working port of the hedgehog engine

@OctavianDamiean you're a fellow tinkerer right? how would you feel about an openkindle app built from taken apart kindle app components? i'm sure it would violate some ToS somewhere, but I think it's the "right" thing to do
@AbrahamVanHelpsing The "taken apart"-part sounds like reverse-engineering, kinda.
it's about getting it done, and since it's a copy protection platform yes there's no spec to write to
13:19
What's the incentive?
i want to put ubuphone on a nexus 7 without losing the ability to use kindle books
Oh I see!
So you basically want to build an ebook reader compatible with Amazon's kindle books for Ubuntu Touch.
yerp
if it existed i wouldn't build it. but it doesn't
Sounds like a good idea if you can iron out the legal part.
i'll just get someone in new zealand to publish it. they don't honor copyright on software that isn't linked to a hardware component. and if i derive from the android app, it's not linked.
13:22
That's true.
Not sure how legal it would be to use it outside of NZ though. I'm not a lawyer.
heh, you mean like using most of restricted inside the us?
13:33
once i cover not getting arrested for building it, i'm satisfied. use is a whole different thing. once it's out, it's out. if i derive REALLY readable code for something from a closed app and someone derives from me i'm not upset unless i'm hungry
I'm not too sure this'll work. They'll sue you before you can say Amazon and they'll probably delete your Amazon account, which is even worse.
that's fair. it just seems wrong not to. i also don't have a lot to lose...
@AbrahamVanHelpsing why not build your own ebook reader and then integrate kindle books
@mojo706 That's what we're talking about. :)
you're missing the point. a linux ebook reader that supports kindle would be ^^ that
13:44
if only you knew of a way to implement it :(
