@mojo706 Basically, you install the system, update the software, add software, perform certain configurations and when you're ready you tell the system to remove the temporary oem user. Upon next boot it will present the user with a mask to configure the system for his needs.
I did that because I'm selling it with Ubuntu pre-installed.
Gotta spread the goodness.
:) wise choice sir wise choice

is this ^^ good news or just news?

@mojo706 just a letdown.
I was expecting something a little more full-featured.
13:22
Now why is EVERYBODY thinking about applying for Ubuntu membership?

@jokerdino Oh yea, congratulations mate!
@OctavianDamiean Oh you! Thanks mate!!
I was expecting your nomination during election. :|
@Takkat Yeah, now I got to handle the whole thing.. -.-
14:09
Nah, I wasn't active enough to even think about participating.
Maybe next time.
@OctavianDamiean Definitely next time.
In the meantime I can become more active.
@jokerdino there are other mods too - but dont flag it ;P - seems pretty easy to handle anyway.
@OctavianDamiean That would be excellent.
@Takkat Heh I know. What does flagging do?
You only have the monster-hammer-final flag now.
14:12
Oh we are talking about that flag.
I was actually enjoying the drama. :>
Yeah - if you handle this now then the fun is over.
I only removed that all caps comment so far.

Q: xrandr config not loading properly at startup from .xprofile

beacon_bonanzaI'm using xrandr to rescale the resolution on a netbook (Ubuntu 12.10). When I run the following command it works fine: xrandr --output LVDS1 --mode 1024x600 --panning 1280x720 --scale 1.25x1.2 However when I put that command into .xprofile to load it at startup the screen has a black border ...

@Rinzwind :O
It is teh Rinzwind!
15:33
octa <3!
:D
How are you mate?
got a couple of minutes of free time. for the rest: very busy with work since we took over the software of a company that went belly up and we decided to recreate it all but webbased.
(instead of local install)
Oh, sounds almost like my story, 'cept I have a bit more time now.
see the images at the bottom: newmerce.nl/index.php/dms
not my company but that is the one that sells our product ;)
@Rinzwind Ooouhh, I like the orange/grey design.
15:39
our design is blue ish except for the workorder flow chart That has custom colors
(not the site @OctavianDamiean The 3 images at the bottom are our system ;) )
@Rinzwind I figured but I still enjoyed the design of the website. :D
oh :D well... can't claim I had anything to do with that >:D
even works in chinese :D :D (since 1 of our normal clients(we got separate software for none-webbased clients that use our webbased finance tool) has a branche there)
whoa, that must have been quite some pain to implement.
nope.
well a lot less hassle than Polish and Chechzen
(we created translation tables so told the client: here are the text segments in dutch and english. here you need to insert the chinese ones. Tell us when it is done :D :D
Oh wait, so you basically kept the left-to-right orientation as usual then.
15:45
yes. chinese are used to that nowadays (japanese too btw).
and gone >:D
That's so ... Chinese. :P
15:48
that company also has german, english, french, polish, chechzen
Quite a big one then.
THEN they decided to add a spanish and turkish division but also decided they would use english as main language (wish they decided that earlier :( )
@Rinzwind so few flags ... need more - more I say ... not enough to go around.
well @OctavianDamiean if you ever did something in your house that involved attaching metal pipes or tubes you probably bought something from them. They own 75% of the world market in patents regarding fixings for heating systems, sanitary installations, electrical installations, sprinkler pipes, air ducts, cooling systems, solar panels etc
15:53
ROFL
For more information about the **** Group download our company brochure or see our company movie.
they even got a movie :D :D :D
I have been there a couple of times and they have a safe in the middle of the work place. Well safe aint the right word. More a box with 1 meter thick hardend steel walls. :D They store the ceramic molds there. Some of them are worth 1/2 a million (and do not look like it ;) )
if someone drops one of those they are instantly fired :X

Heeeyyy @Rinzwind

Mann I missed you
It's nostalgic seeing the guy with lucy's eye as his gravatar. :P

@Mochan so me and Luis are just "also"... also-ran huh?
No hugs, cookies, or fluffy penguins for you.
None.
question @RolandiXor!
@Rinzwind oh?
Yes and yes :)
the wording of the 2 topics where a bit different but I believe he is asking the same thing :D so... flagged! you go approve my flag >:D
16:04
P.S. the BIOS handles the speed, not the OS. The OS can throttle the CPU if it supports it, but the BIOS throttles the RAM - afaik
throws a cool cookie

That's a FAKE one @fossfreedom I only want approved ones (they have a "aproved by RolandiXor" stamp on them)
Its a pimply blind cookie.
(which woke me up from my work so it has magic powers)
hey takky! I am going home. 10 minutes past 17:00 so I am already late

@RolandiXor Congratulations mate!

Hey @EliahKagan, I love some of your pro forma comments. Especially this one.
> Welcome to Ask Ubuntu! Just like a post that says Ubuntu is great but doesn't try to answer the question isn't a real answer, neither is this. Oh.
That was ram speed
yeah, reopened it for y'all

A: Ubuntu does not detects the RAM correctly

stonedsquirrelYour RAM is detected correctly. MB (megabyte) and MiB (mebibyte) are two different units. 1 MB is 1000 KB which is 1000 byte (decimal) 1 MiB is 1024 KiB which is 1024 byte (binary) If you check the math yourself you will see that 512 MB are 495 MiB ;-) MB is mostly used for selling stuff be...

Isn't this the reverse?
1MB=1024KB
I think so.
Also, that is wrong I guess
the overheads take up space

@StephenMyall I am reading it. Give me a minute
I am going to step back and let the community act on it. :>
Sure
I just wanted to point it out
Done, hopefully that makes it easier to find the "problem"
Too generous of you @mateo.
17:11
@mateo_salta since you edit my comment is no longer valid. Maybe that can be removed
Done
sure, if you feel it should, but asking for links is nice, we may need a reference of what he did to mess up the system
@mateo_salta somehow (i dont know why?) but I will be surprised if he is interested in sharing them
@jokerdino Thanks! I'm glad you've found it useful. And I see that's the modified moderator version. :) (As mine ends actual, practical advice, so it will probably be [deleted soon](http://$SITEURL$/faq#deletion).)
@StephenMyall so maybe tweak it a bit, that would be awesome... we will see, I have seen more upset people get to a good solution, so not all hope is lost (also seen people explode on edits too...)
mateo_salta Keep the faith, it was generous gesture you made
17:17
@EliahKagan Yeah, I just edited that last bit. Felt too silly to give that much uncertainty when I am the one deleting the post. :)
I forgot that @Oli had already created a master question. Can this be moved here
@Aditya Is it really a duplicate?
It might be late for me to think straight at the moment.
Oli
Oli
@Aditya I've done this and altered the question.
@Oli Thanks
@jokerdino Yes, of course. I agree.
17:24
@jokerdino We are going to get tonnes of questions about it starting from now...
so a canonical master question to address all the concerns is needed :)
ubuntu touch? is this diffrent from all the different phone/tablet/andorid/mobile versions?
@mateo_salta it's a technology
Oli
Oli
It would be nice to have a canonical product name for it too.
From ... Canonical.
Wait, I am thinking of uTouch. Not Ubuntu Touch.
oh so just the "touch" part... for the other stuff
17:26
@mateo_salta "The Touch Developer Preview project provides the open source code for enthusiasts and developers, to familiarise themselves with Ubuntu'€™s phone and tablet experience"
from the wiki
It's the same technology for both phones and tablets
so same as "Ubuntu for Phones" or diffrent
One moment, they kick all the Qt. And then, they advocate using Qt.
@mateo_salta a little bit different I guess... but the core for both of them should be same
@mateo_salta Same stuff on different hardware
Much like Android phone and tablets.
exciting times, but confusing.
I thought they had a different thing for the android devices to run ubuntu alongside?
17:29
That was Ubuntu for android. Entirely different.
@mateo_salta that is >> you have a docking station, you dock your android device on it >> and your android becomes a pc :)
That will be cool!
That one still hasn't made it into mainstream.
@StephenMyall oh well, he deleted his own question.
@mateo_salta Theory: He wanted peer pressure badge.
17:40
@jokerdino lol, -3 votes that would do the trick
yeah, he probably was just looking for those.
What mobile device are you on? You chat with much ease.
I'm on a Macbook pro
But with Ubuntu.
17:43
on the computer next to me...
shrug
I don't dare mess with the efi on this, need it for design.
I have it in VM on here, as well
Yeah, it probably is not worth the headache.
And, I am going to bed. So, feel free to bombard the flag queue.
@jokerdino so that you wake up with lots of flags staring at you tommorow ;)
Good night
@jokerdino I would try it on an external if it weren't for this all the "caution" bug might corrupt firmware messages help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFIBooting looks like they are fixed, and don't have another 2,000 dollars, and this zdnet.com/blog/hardware/… so no more 17inch!
17:52
@Aditya I am not around for the best part of tomorrow. The other mods will handle them :P
later @jokerdino
@mateo_salta No, sometimes it is best to leave it alone.

@Aditya Yeah, I do it.
Android & WM6.5
I have heard it for the first time :)
:)
It doesn't work on all phone though.
Depends on the bootloader
and a dev team working the second OS.
20:07
@Seth So, you must have to constantly switch off and switch on to change the OS
and what os do you use most - android/wm
@Aditya yes
@Aditya Android.
WM doesn't have a lot of capability.
@Seth how many times a day? (approx)
That's the whole reason I installed Android ;)
@Aditya Usually I just boot WM once to get into Android.
@Seth Does it mean, that Android is installed like a VM? (You boot WM to get into it)
@Aditya No, it's a literal installation of Android on a MicroSD card.
20:11
So, why do you have to boot into WM
@Seth: Since you are a prolific editor :) ..... any idea about this:
