Q: Postfix/Courier on EC2 instance

SkittlesI have an EC2 instance with Amazon. Server has a LAMP stack running on a Ubuntu OS. Additionally, I have Postfix and Courier set up on there too. I'm not very well versed in the use of Postfix and Courier and as a result, Amazon SES is requiring that I designate an email address as a validated s...

jrg
First and foremost. If I only have nano, then by jove I'll be using nano!

do you know if anyone has made any progress towards textmate on non-osx?

jrg
12:09 AM
if i only have emacs, then i will use emacs dangit!
@AbrahamVanHelpsing no, but redcar comes pretty close. :P

There are way too many HTTP status codes.

if you run up against some ESX instances check out VASTO - set of VMWare assault plugins for msf
@GeorgeEdison the first number is the really important part for the most part

1:06 AM
@jrg Right.

My first silver badge! Thanks guys! Hi, by the way

jrg
Howdy @Mochan, and congrats!

heya @Mochan
and yay!

@jrg Hey jrg! Thanks. I was actually trying to get the badge for 30 days consecutive - but I found out I missed the 28th. Today would've been my 30th... sigh
@JourneymanGeek Thanks Journeyman~ have you done A3? I haven't.

no
2 more videos to go

1:17 AM
@JourneymanGeek You haven't watched the Week 5 videos yet?

not finished
its been a busy 2 weeks

jrg
@Mochan oh well. i tried for a long time to get that one.

@jrg :D
Well, thanks to you all (since I was reliant on the public to get the other badge) :3

kan
@JasperLoy How sad. Is this on Math.SE?! Some, let me repeat for emphasis, SOME, people there are plain weird.
Hi, Mochan! Week 7 already! Hope you're keeping up with the course.

@kan Yep. I'll watch the Week 6 and 7 ones this week.
Should this be downvoted because the OP answered their own question with an edit-like statement?
I'm not good with these things, as you can tell.

kan
1:25 AM
@Mochan Just ignore, no? Why bother? (BTW: tl; dr).
@Mochan Hmm. I see. Wish you luck.

@kan What's tl; dr? Because I'm trying to get a badge >O<

kan
@Mochan The post linked is too long. As for whether you should down vote, I'd flag the answer: it is a comment; not an answer. But, I'd not downvote.

@kan Cool ty.
Oh look who dropped in. It's @jokerdino.

hi

kan
Hello @jokerdino.

1:28 AM
@jokerdino o/

what's up?

kan
Nothing much.
I am executing a C program. It is running for the past 20 minutes.

:[

kan
≡ find another good algorithm.

This answer also does not answer the question very clearly... the video is also irrelevant.

kan
1:30 AM
But, on another note: I have done something nice: I have set up IBus, solving my symbols problem from the key board.
Petty Peeve: I don't want the drop down suggestions.

@kan I use IBus for Japanese input :3

kan
@Mochan Also, flagged as not an answer. (Actually, I should thank you. I am flagging the posts -- taking me closer to the Marshall badge, if the moderator clears it positively.)
@Mochan Kanji script?

@kan That too. Also Hiragana and Katakana (Japanese use three alphabets)
@kan I flagged it too :)
Oct 13 at 23:28, by Mochan
In Japanese, there are three different alphabets. Hiragana looks like this こんにちは. Katakana looks like this アメリカ . And kanji looks like this 何、私、愛.

kan
@Mochan I see. What's predominant if at all? (Lowly mortals such as me find learning languages hard without support from a native speaker.)

@kan Well, it's hard. Hiragana you could say is the main alphabet. But Kanji is used to shorten Hiragana into a pictograph instead of maybe 7 characters. Katakana is used to write English and non-Japanese words. For example, アメリカ means 'America'. I love learning Japanese, I do well with linguistics. I'd say Hiragana is the main one.

kan
1:40 AM
@Mochan Oh, OK. Thanks for the input. Wondering if Coursera is giving language lessons -- I wanted to learn French and German ya know... :(

@kan That'd be cool.

kan
Yup.

TBH, I prefer Asian languages over European languages.
Hi @Joshua
I should take a Japanese course and just ace it :S

kan
Should I kill the C program or wait for it to die?

@kan XD Let it die a slow, painful death, I say.

kan
1:43 AM
OK.
Can I know the RAM being used currently to know how dirty my program is?

TY
What do i do with the script?

1:51 AM
there is a how to in the above link

Really? Thanks :S
Where? //shot

Did you read the link?
Just read the question post.

@jokerdino I did >o<
It says 'Download the script' and I did.

Then what?

It's on another tab for some reason?
As you can see, in firefox:
Might take a while, sorry.

kan

>0< -- what's this smiley?

you need greasemonkey.

@kan Like... eyes squinting, mouth open. Usually angry or offended
@jokerdino -.-

i thought it was obvious scripts go with greasemonkey.

kan
@Mochan D'oh.

@jokerdino I don't use scripts.
@kan :P
Where do I get greasemonkey from >.>

1:58 AM
@Mochan Look at all those indicators. Does your computer lag anytime?
stackapplet is broken and is full of bugs. it still uses v1 of the API and it needs to be updated for v2.1.

@jokerdino No. I have i7 and 6GB RAM. If it lagged, I'd shoot it.

the system monitor always uses high resources and you are better of with commandline tools.

-____- stop judging my desktop

no. just stating the facts
i guess people really just like to install fancy stuff when reviewed on fancy blogs.

@jokerdino Wait wait wait.
You're referring to an old version.

2:03 AM
I am talking about v1.4 of stackapplet
the one in debian repo

The latest version is 1.5.1 and there is a preview release for 1.6 that is even better.

@jokerdino I have fancy things because they're fancy and practical

Just switch to my PPA and your problems will disappear.

Let me retry 1.6 and file bug reports :P

Wait - don't try 1.6 on Ubuntu.

2:04 AM
:|

I think there are problems getting the popup to work.
Better stick to 1.5.1.

Use deb?

It's still supported and runs without any problems.
Use my PPA!

Your ppa has 1.6

=.=''

2:05 AM
Do you want me to pin it to 1.5?
never tried pinning. So might as well try it

My PPA?

yeah

Are you referring to the StackApplet PPA or my personal PPA?
I better check which one has 1.5.1...

the team one.
Hm, okay. it has 1.5
but no package for quantal.

Hang on. That I can fix.

2:09 AM

Okay, there are now two pending builds. One for Quantal and one for Raring.
They will end up in my PPA shortly.

Thanks.
Why is it that we don't have the same set of features in 1.6? :|

Well, I rewrote it in Qt for one thing.
And sadly the app indicators don't seem to distinguish between left-clicks and right-clicks.
So it works great on Windows... not so great on Ubuntu Unity.

That is true.
@Mochan marked it as dupe.

@kan or other, this isn't an answer, right?
@jokerdino Ty. I answered it but shrug.

2:15 AM
if the apt is broken, you can't really install synaptic.

kan
@Mochan Yes, atmost a comment. :)

@kan Flag?

@jokerdino: I'd guess you'd have to use dpkg to fix it?

kan
@Mochan Of course, I flagged it as not an answer.

If thats borked then... things get fun

2:16 AM
@JourneymanGeek usually yes

@kan Me too :) TY
Mochan is slowly getting better at reviewing.

kan
@Mochan :) I should thank you. :P

@kan NP. (Do we get rep for helpful flags? I know there is a stat, but...)

> Is this behavior known? What can I do about it?
in a way, it can be considered an answer

kan
@Mochan No. We don't get. But, after you have had hopeless number of helpful flags, you get a Gold Badge -- Marshall.

2:20 AM
lol
500

there's a lower level one too

long lost 500
@RolandTaylor hi

kan
720 or sth?

500 helpful flags is the right answer

kan
2:21 AM
no? for Marshall, I mean.

@jokerdino hi

it used to be by flag weight

@kan *O*

which was.. just impossible

2:21 AM
I'd better go. I'm heading out for a nice lunch~

kan
@jokerdino May be, on MSE, or I misremember.

See you

there's also deputy
80 flags

@GeorgeEdison they don't, at all.
@Mochan without us.

2:22 AM
That's how friends treat friends, yeah.

kan
@Mochan Have a tasty lunch! I will be getting my favy breakfast served in half an hour.

@RolandTaylor Yeah. I'd invite you, but you'd have to pay for your own flight
@kan :P Thanks

I've been perfecting the way to annoy people these days.

@Joshua @jokerdino I hope you're seeing this ^

soon, i'll finish it.
@RolandTaylor yeah. i read it, felt sad, cried a little and moved on.

2:23 AM
@RolandTaylor Seeing what?

@jokerdino I sense a tinge of realism in what you just said.
The rest is sarcasm, born out of rolling eyes at a disdain for a personality or person.

@RolandTaylor it happened too fast

ANYWAY! I'm out. See y'all~

@Mochan bye.

@RolandTaylor sarcasm yes. but not the rest

2:25 AM
:P
I tend not to have a positive view of myself from other people's eyes ;)

i don't know.

#annoy @jokerdino?

@JourneymanGeek stop right there

;p
@jokerdino perfected.

@JourneymanGeek NOOOOOO

askubuntu.com/questions/tagged/hp-proliant-dl @RolandTaylor, do you think we really need these tags?

2:43 AM
@GeorgeEdison click the arrow on the message.

Ah, okay.

kan
Will my C program also suspend if I suspend my user now (on Ubuntu 12.04)?
(Sorry; pardon my ignorance.)

You mean if you switch users?

kan
@RolandTaylor No, I will be away. But, I am working from a common room. So, I want to suspend the screen and resume when I come back.

Oh so you're putting the computer on suspend then?

kan
2:56 AM
(There is an option to suspend which is like sleep in Windows; distinct from lock the screen.)
@RolandTaylor Yup... exactly.

@kan oh well then yes, your C program will suspend.

kan
@RolandTaylor what if I lock the screen?
(I don't want the C program to die a premature death.)

@kan if you lock the screen it will still be running
Is it a program you wrote yourself (like a hello world type program)?

kan
@RolandTaylor Yes, a program I wrote myself: but unfortunately more complicated than the Hello World program. It is computationally expensive.
Well, strangely enough, the entire computer shut down. I don't know why. It just shut down.
scared

O_o
Are you on Ubuntu?

kan
3:03 AM
@RolandTaylor Yup. 12.04-1 LTS. :)

oh okay

kan
Perhaps, something memory oriented happened?
Well, break fast time. I should really go... My Favourite yummy break fast awaits me.

@kan I'm not sure.
