@jokerdino, nope. I already did it
just gotta pay attention more when im typing
>_>
so, you got no questions?
I'm sure we have a good general Wubi vs. non-Wubi question to dupe this to, but I haven't found it yet.

Q: Is there any disadvantage if i install ubuntu on windows?

rifan02Will there be any problems or bugs if i install ubuntu on windows with the windows installer.If i install will i get the exact same ubuntu or will there be any thing missing. Will i get the exact power and performance of ubuntu?

the trouble is , im typing on "onboard" onscreen keyboard and it is a pain in the NSFW!
@EliahKagan we do
@JoshuaRobison that actually sucks
you are on touch tablet?
1
Q: What are the benefits of a disk install vs. Wubi? And can I migrate my settings easily?

AlexI chose to do the Wubi install because it was short, simple, and easy to reverse (no messing with partitions required). To be honest, I can handle the lack of a hibernate function. I haven't really heard many other benefits of installing on a separate partition than hibernation and negligibly fa...

@jokerdino, right. still cant get the attached keyboard to work.. and have no clue about compiling kernels for arm and flashing them to system drives or whatnot
i barely got this running as it is
it works great aside from the attached keyboard not working
09:03
compiling kernels. @_@
@jokerdino Thanks. I'm out of close votes but I've commented. I recommend voting to close that question as a dupe.
there are some nice features of ubuntu/unity that are lacking in xubuntu though
for example wth ubuntu/unity I can scroll in nautilus with my finder doing flick scroll... like on a tablet interface
but in xubuntu thunar... i can't do that... i have to use the scroll bar and find it with my finger... kind of a pain
also "onboard" works a lot better in ubuntu/unity
when I click inside of a text box area, onboard will automagically pop up for me... but in xfce I have to actually open onboard every time I want to type by finding it in the applications
@EliahKagan there is also another question commented by foss.
@JoshuaRobison sorry network timed out
i guess that is just the magic of unity/nautilus though
@JoshuaRobison you could file bug reports though
09:15
back o/
but last time i checked, xfce devs were annoyed by people who migrated from gnome / unity
annoyed? o_O
they should be happy
the people migrating were asking for gnome features :P
make sense.
> sorry network timed out
??
Do you have to re-connect after some time?
09:17
hmm..
every once in a while, network kicks everyone out.
then you have to login after some minutes
to prevent idle downloaders
after some minutes!! login??
oh. good then
my network requires cntlm login.
sorry. no knowledge about "cntlm"
@jokerdino, what doesn't annoy xfce users. I'm only using this cause gnome-shell wont work on nvidia-tegra gpu's yet and jeff from bodhi linux moved over to armhf and i would be stuck with vanilla e17
my last options were lxde and xfce
lxde is ugly
09:20
@Anwar i dont know much either. you need to login to use the internet. that's all i know.
that left xfce
and it's not that bad
@JoshuaRobison ouch
at least you got to use something
yep , this is true
i used to hate lxde. but loving it lately
at this time, i am pretty knowledgable about most common DE.
used unity, gnome, lubuntu, xubuntu and kde.
just not much of gnome-classic
09:22
tell me about e17 ;P
:P
E is a mess
?? used it?
nah, public opinion
@Anwar, e17 is great if you use bodhi-linux themes and configuration on it
I used it.
it's effects are awesome
09:24
hm oh?
@JoshuaRobison thanks. i'll try to use
nothing similar to any DE
jeff at bodhi linux has put tons of dev work into e17... the thing is , e17 is almost as light as lxde and almost as configurable as kde
2
Thanks @JoshuaRobison
:)
its amazing... i can not get it around my mind how something with so much compositing and animation can run on systems with such low specs
@JoshuaRobison that's not cool :P
should be like unity. no changes whatsover :P
09:25
yeah. thanks again.
@jokerdino, I know. I'm a jerk
:P
@JoshuaRobison heh :\
i was just joking
jokerdino. you should try e17
@Anwar downloaded. one sec
09:26
but a warning: always get a documentation handy
:P
@AmithKK hi
how do i share a link from g+ from my home. not my post
Hello @Anwar
@Anwar you.........
Hello @AmithKK
@jokerdino ?
i logged into e and i only see a wallpaper >_<
09:29
how you logged you in. don't it first let you select the options for panel?
Can you answer this? Quanta Touch still broken on 12.04.1 http://askubuntu.com/q/185094?atw=1
@smartboyhw Hello
@AmithKK ;)
@Anwar what panel?
i logged into enlightenment from gdm
no idea how to use it :P
is there a key command for right click?
way back when I used mac ... they only had single button mice and ... right click could be done with a cntrl+button1
but it would be great if I could get contextual menues with a key command
like control+alt+c or something
09:44
not that i know of
izx
izx
09:58
@JoshuaRobison Bind your chosen combo to xdotool click --clearmodifiers 3
@izx, really? that's not gonna move my root folder to /dev/zero or anything right?
:)
izx
izx
@JoshuaRobison Heh, no. See this answer for general instructions (ignore the Compiz parts, of course). If the shortcut you use is already "grabbed" by the system or by the running application, then it won't work....
@izx, awesome, thanks
Hi All

@izx Cool good to have you back.

user50899its said Intel® Ironlake Mobile x86/MMX/SSE2 but i play a game on 3d and runt to slow. i hace arrendale p6200, ubuntu 11.10

Hi @izx.
hey @izx.
izx
izx
\o everyone!
I still can't believe you rage quit because your question was closed :P
(poor) Jokes aside, how's you?
izx
izx
lol, I have to thank fossfreedom for reopening that - I saw an inbox notification.
@jokerdino Pretty good, thanks.
Wait, foss reopened it? That explains why you are here. :P
@izx Cool. Hope everything was fine.
10:27
For the reasons detailed in my comment, I believe this should be flagged as "not an answer" (I cannot do this myself as I am out of moderator attention flags, for the day):

A: How to open a terminal from the terminal

mohammadsuhaimiI'm using short-cut keyboard ctr+shift+t

izx
@EliahKagan Done, the question is a non-sequitur though...
Well, i wouldn't want to drive you away like I did that to msPeachy. I was just joking.. O_o
@izx There should be some xdg-...something answer to it. ;-)
@izx I think it does make sense to want to be able to programmatically launch a default terminal emulator with a process running in it.
@EliahKagan You what?
You blew your 50+ flags?
izx
izx
@jokerdino Your efforts would be better expended on scaring away trolls/vamps like Bob ;)
10:30
@izx smartboyhw doesn't want to leave us despite my best efforts.
:P
@jokerdino I only have 46. :)
@EliahKagan But still.. 46?
izx
izx
@EliahKagan I was referring to the Intel HD question. As for that NAA, it's sitting at 2 delete votes and just needs one more 20k+ user to get rid of it forever.
@izx Oh.
Were you pouring through the review queue or something?
izx
izx
10:32
@jokerdino We need a Sandbox room for the kiddies to play... ;)
lol
that might do.

@Anwar Good to see you back in chat too, Anwar -- you were missing for a while before I went missing! :)
(apparently @jokerdino Peachied @Anwar?) :P
@izx yeah
izx
izx
Exams?
No.
I don't know. Every once in a while, someone goes missing and I keep wondering if it was coz of me. :P
10:43
:P
may be ;P
your e17 worked?
no idea how to use it
@Anwar Chan will rage when he sees that :P
Is he a dev of it?
No. just a user.
10:47
then, i should better leave the message!
sure :P
just tag him with the message
hello everyone..

Yo @Prasad
10:49
HAAAAAI
it wasn't that

we have just found izx who were missing from AU for several days :)
Is he?

he was missing for many days :/
10:51
@Prasad YEAH!
hm it makes sense now
the developer created a google alert
jokerdino is good at punishing...isn't it?
so, he gets an email when someone creates a new thread
new thread means new question?
@Anwar forums.

@Anwar LOL
@Anwar sorry..not working..do I need to add cairo-dock(opengl) to the startup apps first?

@Prasad what did you do?
I just did everything you told me..and no cario on gnome classic
11:08
you have a file in ~/.config/autostart named cairo.sh?
@Anwar yes

o ma gerd what happened with the gimping contest with eye changes and monocles last night?
11:43
Hi friends it 's open question to all
@KetanPatel: Welcome!
What is maximum ram supported by Ubuntu Server 12.04 64 bit ?
3
Q: What's the maximum amount of RAM I can use on an Asus U31SD?

crondI've an Asus U31SD Notebook with an i5-2430M CPU. The Asus site says that the maximum RAM is 8 GB, but Intel's says my CPU supports 16 GB. What is the maximum RAM I can use on this system under Ubuntu?

@aking1012 eh merg gerd. i was right in the middle of that and was scared to maxx
izx
izx
@KetanPatel 64-bit Ubuntu/Linux (kernel) will support as much memory as you want it to. The limit is what your hardware supports.
o/ @aking1012
11:51
@izx No ..No .. there is theoretically limit of it
The question linked by aking1012 is about ubuntu desktop system not server
izx
izx
@KetanPatel Yes, the theoretical limit is 16 EB, where 1 EB = 1,048,576 TB = 1,073,741,824 gigabytes.
Wrong
The question was asked me to the interview.
izx
izx
OK, enlighten us all with brilliance of your intellect then.
A 64-bit CPU should theoretically be able to address 2^64 bits of RAM.
o/ @izx
izx
izx
o/ @msPeachy
11:56
o/ @msPeachy @izx
@izx where have you been?
izx
izx
o/ @ObsessiveFOSS
@msPeachy Busy IRL :)
o/ dino
o/ @ObsessiveFOSS.
I also drove Obs away :P
izx
izx
@KetanPatel This isn't the Bournvita Quiz Contest. If you have a question, please ask it on the main site. Thanks.
11:57
@izx i guess IRL means in-real-life?
izx
izx
yep
@izx Sorry, can't talk now, or for most of the academic year, for that matter...
@izx Bro.. It's for knowledge..
Only like 3-4:30PM EST/EDT on weekdays
@izx okay, good luck with everying
izx
izx
11:59
@ObsessiveFOSS WTF? Parental unit curfew?
@izx Answer is 1 TB.
@izx No. Studies.
@KetanPatel Don't you mean TiB?
@obsess TB=terabyte
@KetanPatel Don't you mean tibbibyte?
If we are discussing address sizes, then exponents of 1024 should be used.
@obsess okey
izx
izx
12:04
@KetanPatel YOU (and whoever interviewed you) are wrong. The x86_64 Linux Kernel (including Ubuntu Server 12.04) has been able to address 64 TB of RAM since 2004
@izx Again, isn't it TiB?
>_>
<_<
izx
izx
@ObsessiveFOSS Yes, stop being pedantic and get on with your studies.
@KetanPatel For any further discussion, please contact [email protected] .
I am currently compiling a giant loaf of bread for Comp Sci.
And trying to run it. I wrote a brute-force SHA512 hash solver.
12:07
@izx Also tell him (Linus) you LOVE the new OpenSUSE release.
izx
izx
@jokerdino Do I?
Oops. I tagged the wrong person.
He left already?
The joke was, email Linus that you love SUSE.
Which got lost somewhere.
izx
izx
Yes, I got the Linus/SUSE part, just not where I came in ;)
Yeah, I just tagged the wrong person >_>
How to make Cairo dock(with opengl) excute only on Gnome-Classic? http://askubuntu.com/q/185429?atw=1 #startup

@msPeachy you are not one of the bros :(

hereby dubs @msPeachy an honorary Bro ^^^^ solved

This Raja character has a real identity crisis. After imwrng and GrSr (and god knows how many other nicks), he has taken to calling himself August (presumable after user January)
I don't know why he named himself August in September.
izx
izx
Someone should tell him that the names of months are traditionally used only for the fairer sex.
And good thing I am not the only one who keeps tabs. o.O
@jokerdino lol, september would have been fine
@msPeachy eheh yeah
12:22
morning
@Alec Hi.
izx
izx
@msPeachy Pics or you have long tresses...
@jokerdino I'd have to agree, now that he is maintaining a decent accept rate...
@izx oh i had long tresses, just had a haircut, i have my hair cut twice a year then let it grow quite long...
@izx Sounds like it turned out quite okay after all..
izx
izx
@msPeachy Interesting...most ladies I know usually maintain a constant-ish length...
12:30
Hello @Alec
@izx Well, I'm not most ladies, lol. Although my two other sisters maintain their long hair. I don't know how it happened but this became my routine when I started working.
I likes the dark adwaita theme
Just need the full package
@jokerdino may i ask the reason?
@Anwar some misunderstanding and ensuing conflicts and confusion.
OK. that's enough.
hope this was over and
12:40
yeah i think it is over
... there should be better understanding now
hope so.
From my experience, whenever some misunderstanding happens, the bond becomes better between friends after the case is over (only 1 experience)
i can't tell but can hope
Why is the last 4 posts removed?????
12:46
removers know. idk
@Anwar You are one of the removers I think
izx
izx
@Anwar That doesn't often hold true when the friends are of the opposite sex ;)
@smartboyhw i was. :P
@Anwar lol
why are you all removing your messages?
anyway, is it okay for an OP to copy and paste his answer from a question and post it on another question?
12:54
sup @izx - i enjoyed the back and forth a moment ago...really
izx
izx
@msPeachy Yes, I've done that a few times with minor edits, usually for networking issues. In the interests of decreasing clutter though, you shouldn't do it if the question itself is a duplicate (and dupe-close instead).
@aking1012 Heh, showboaters are worse than the Bobs ;) Any career updates in the last week or so?
not really. put out a couple more resumes
just a point of humour, he wanted to nitpick that the question i posted was on desktop, but the answer he wanted was the same...
@izx If it is repaired. we can say good. :)
