13:21
@Prasad You wanted to start cairo-dock automatically with gnome-classic but not with unity, right?

Q: Find packages not maintained in main repo?

stefan.at.wpfE.g. Ubuntu Server offers only security updates for software contained in the main repository - how can I check, which installed packages are / are not in the main repo? Thanks!

@Anwar yes...it's his guide and now he is not here :-)...kk..i'll BREAK IT & come
@Anwar he means he is lost
oh.
ZORO is here :-)
@Prasad haven't done this recently but it should - XServer is still there.
13:29
no...i'm asking this
Load Custom Session On Login
If we now define to load our session "Custom" during the given user's login at the gdm screen only the X-Terminal will be started and we will be back at gdm on exit. Next time we login as the user this setting will be remembered as default.
it says GDM...is it ok with 12.04?
Search Google for site:askubuntu.com WARNING - Could not get usefulness from server, no username in config file -"closed by"
@Prasad It should be - I wrote it back then when we all had GDM only. But lightdm will do basically the same in this case. But I have only tested with GDM however.
@Takkat OK thanks
BRB
@Takkat and another thing..as FF...should I add other entries to the script (those in the startup applications)
@Anwar bye
@takkat OK...i think I learned something from the script....OK ubuntu HERE IS MY CUSTOM DE (am I right?)
13:35
@Prasad yeah you need to start all that is started now + Cairo Dock
logout finally.
@Takkat wait...how to add gnome-classic to this...just gnome-classic?

thanks jokerdino !
can we use linux kernel 3.5 in ubuntu 12.04LTS ?
13:41
Sure.
Check out my blog post ^_^
can u give me your blog's address ? jokerdino ?
i am using 3.5 in 12.04 now
oh! Anwar ! good!
ok wish me luck..gonna logout...maybe forever..
13:42
The instructions aren't straightforward to prevent driveby newbies from installing it.
@Prasad its gnome-session --session=GNOME or any other as defined in /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions
lol
its okay .. i will manage it jokerdino !
@PranitBauva good luck
thanks!
13:43
<-- is only 10% here because of the workload on the other side of my desk
Ouch.
@Prasad you are now banned from disturbing Takkat.
^_^
@jokerdino i am saving an answer without answering it. :)
How is that possible?
ok. i'm testing
@jokerdino who told you so...takkat?
13:46
the drafts are automatically saved after some time period
@Prasad I

wait .... then leave
i know
13:47
a message displayed that .xsession is not starting or anything similar...
i would be surprised, if you didn't know
trying another way....
i created a custom avant session before.
@Anwar so?
13:48
oh. wait..
isn't cairo-dock installing a custom session now?
@Anwar ?? didn't get u?
If you install cairo-dock, there should be a session entry for it
@Anwar yes there is a session in the login screen
jrg
jrg
If Disk utility displays one more SATA hard drive as ATA, I'm going to flip out.
lol
13:51
@Anwar i thought cairo-dock was deprecated in favor of glx-dock?
jrg
jrg
or rather, why do laptop manufacturers build them as a ATA > SATA cable, so the motherboard "sees" a ATA drive?!
@Prasad you want both gnome-classic and cairo-dock? or only a custom cairo-dock
@Anwar both gnome-classic and cairo
jrg
jrg
(at least they are consistent about it) </rant>
@aking1012 i don't know much. i install it with cairo-dock
13:52
@jrg yes I do care..but it's over my head
jrg
jrg
@Prasad yeah, i know.
it's just so stupid that it does that.
i mean, i know why they do it, I know how they do it, but I hate the fact it does it.
last log out for the day...let me
@AmithKK bye
ok...it worked...but no WM and only Classic theme...and also this msg....Failed to load /home/prasad/.xsession
OK wrote an answer for "E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)". Let the closing begin.

14:02
I loaded the cairodock+gnome classic with effects and it loaded the cairo dock well...now I am trying to start the panel .how to autostart panel
use this as a script, replace avant... with the exec line of cairo-dock. see what happens
add the script in startup
@Anwar ok..adding now
@jokerdino can you write a canonical answer on 'malformed source line'?
i think, if we list all possible cases we can get one
already existing questions can help
@Anwar is your script correct? running it from terminal give errors
dont we have one?
14:12
do we?
@Prasad i've copied a script and modified it. not really mine
6065547: command not found
i'm also checking
apparently not
@Prasad ^^
the answer is evince
14:14
It's ok.....but I think you gave me the answer
if that qn is not already dupe
You already know that answer.

@Anwar lol
jrg
jrg
@jokerdino so when this pops up for you, don't freak out.
@jrg I would :S
@Prasad i've put the script on`./.config/autostart` then on the startup application i added that script by clicking browse
@jrg is that a serious question?
jrg
jrg
14:21
@SirCharlo Yes.
I can't find anything on how to do it using Linux tools - lots of windows utilities claim to do the trick though.
@Prasad that's all.. logout and login
tested with unity
@Anwar but that script didn't work on terminal
isn't it?
@jrg did you try using clonezilla?
52 mins ago, by jokerdino
Search Google for site:askubuntu.com WARNING - Could not get usefulness from server, no username in config file -"closed by"
@Prasad did you test it in gnome-classic or unity?
if you are on unity, it shouldn't work. test that on gnome-classic
14:23
mm unity?
because the condition was if gnome-classic then ...
I think I see the problem here lol
@SirCharlo if you want to, please add an answer.
jrg
jrg
@SirCharlo i can't find a way to run it on a ubuntu USB, only the clonezilla live env.

jrg
jrg
@SirCharlo I can get knoppix or something else, but I don't have a bootable copy of Windows around.
@jrg clonezilla is a live cd
jrg
jrg
@SirCharlo back in my day, it was a piece of software. Although I may be thinking of something else. I'll try the clonezilla one.
14:28

jrg
@SirCharlo Lame. Ok, downloading now.

@jrg it works really well. just take your time reading all the options
jrg
jrg
@SirCharlo okie-dokie.
@Anwar script is working ..but no cairo dock...
@jrg And if your destination partition is smaller than your source partition, then you'll need to check the "-icds" option to ignore the size checking.
@jrg (in expert mode)
jrg
jrg

Q: Ubuntu 12.10 New Icon Theme and Login Sound

Vivek AnandWill the final release of Ubuntu 12.10 get a new icon theme like Lubuntu 12.10? I hope they will because the existing ones look boring. Plus what happened to the new Login Sound that was discussed during the 12.04 LTS release? I hope they introduce these new things in 12.10 release....

14:39
may i get some assistance for this?
http://askubuntu.com/questions/184832/previously-used-tags-in-blogilo
@katyasehgal Sorry, your question has been flagged for closure, as it falls outside of the scope defined in the FAQ
i was looking at that question.
@Anwar OK..let me check
@katyasehgal I don't think it is possible.
@JorgeCastro What actually happened?
14:41
@jokerdino it is a feature in other clients.
@katyasehgal sure yes. but you have to ask the blogilo devs
@katyasehgal contact the devs of that app
@jrg yeah that would be nice
Ask Ubuntu unfortunately is not the right venue.
@jokerdino what do you mean?
14:41
@JorgeCastro What did vanvugt figure?
jrg
jrg
@jokerdino go submit some code to the unity codebase - get unity --reset aliased to the right dconf thingies.
how to reset in 12.10
@jokerdino am searching for some contact info. I knew it's a dev issue. Contacted here to see if there is a workaround.
@JorgeCastro aha nice.
i was looking at the forum thread but didn't fully read it
@jrg sounds like a nice idea o.O
14:43
@jokerdino allright.
@katyasehgal You can file a bug report to blogilo devs. :)
