hey guys I was curious how one would change a shift up key combination to be something different as a result of the keys, so I need shift_r + up to be ? instead of registering as the action of what shift up would normally produce
is there a way to do this?

@Someone good morning I'm here

9:56 AM
Good Morning!
I've too many questions regarding your answer... @nobody

go on and ask I hope this ist okay here in this chatroom
@Someone

First, why did you use dpkg -l | egrep linux-'[g|i|m|h]' ? Why not any simple command?

like which? this filtered for me perfect the packages I want to see.

And you provided the description of the command as "which kernelpackages are on your system."

lol. For the rest of us in the class... link? :D

A: How do I uninstall a problematic kernel?

nobodyNo better is to make it without some gui. Grub is to important that I would trust a program which hide what it is doing exactly behind a gui. cp /etc/default/grub $HOME a backup from the file. Add in /etc/default/grub GRUB_DEFAULT=saved GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT=true then run sudo update-grub Reboot to...

@nobody Can you explain this description? "which kernelpackages are on your system."
Also, what's wrong with GUI?

@Someone well gui can hide some of the complexity?

@Someone just a sec I have to consult leo.org for translation :D

My answer provided a GUI solution... They cut my talk and provided a CLI option which is completely unclear and seems like dangerous too

(eh, tried apt list and... nothing. @nobody's command works perfectly. :D )
@Someone dangerous how?

It's unclear, at least to me...

10:07 AM
The first command is informative. The second command tells you what to remove.

Okay for grub customizer he can make thing worse askubuntu.com/questions/1301393/…

Okay! Lets talk about the last command sudo apt-mark manual linux-image-5.4.0-92-generic linux-headers-5.4.0-92-generic
You first told to remove those packages as manual and then told to mark those packages as manual?

this will only avoid that this kernel and his headers will be removed whe sudo apt autoremove is called and I wrote inux-image-5.4.0-91-generic

linux-image-5.4.0-92-generic
last command?
I'm talking about the last command

@nobody I did a quick set of edits to your answer for readability if that's ok

10:14 AM
@JourneymanGeek You removed code formatting of dpkg command in your edit

oh man me and my stroke so less concentration.

Fixed!

@JourneymanGeek thanks
just a sec dI will reboot to my ubuntu.

BTW you didn't answer my question 'You first told to remove those packages as manual and then told to mark those packages as manual?' in the last command. I'm not sure if we can mark a removed package as manually installed. @nobody
@nobody So I was correct ?

@Someone you are right It was the wrong packages I fixed trough en edit

10:27 AM
Thats why I was saying it dangerous!
Please don't do these types of mistakes
BTW I was editing your post.. Your edit rejected my edit and all my work is now failed!

not dangerous but useless you can not mark a package if it is not longer on your system. I did not see your edit sorry was not with purpose

No problem.. I now have the privellige to edit... I've edited it again please check, I wasn't understanding a few things, so I didn't changed them

@Someone do not be so strict remember always nicely and friendly :D

Hahaha! What? I wasnt being strict...
Are you fine with my edit?

yes I'am of course more coffee 1. for me before I do anything else. :D

10:37 AM
Bye!

thanks @Someone

No problem :D
I learnt editing from @BeastOfCaerbannog
@nobody Something like aptitude search '~i!~M' -F '%p' | grep <kernel-version> would be better to list the kernel packages

@Someone Most people use apt (which comes by default), not aptitude, so I think an apt solution is preferable.

but aptitude is better

"Better" is subjective. People have different needs and preferences, so what is good for you, might not be as good for someone else.

10:46 AM
grep ' installed ' /var/log/dpkg.log /var/log/dpkg.log.1 | awk '{print $5}' | sort -u
This command is better than dpkg -l

Why is it better? dpkg -l is far simpler and easier to remember.

It only lists name of packages nothing else
I'm saying its better for answer not for routine...

Well, since it works fine, I think it's good.

@Someone that's what you need tho

Yes, for the answer we need that command, dpkg -l is a bit confusing

10:54 AM
It works!

Yeah. it does work

And having had many frustrating conversations with my boss... nearly everything can be confusing to the wrong person :D
The gui solution is.. gui
the command line solution can be copy pasted, walked through step by step, will be consistant for most part...

@nobody An easy way to learn bash wizardzines.com/comics/bash-functions/… HaHa
@JourneymanGeek I also prefer CLI over GUI

Oh, when walking someone through it

But generally new users don't like to work with CLI, so I sometimes give GUI answers

11:03 AM
So nothing wrong with either approach

Yes

1 hour later…
12:16 PM
I want to see the day when a random person is conversing with someone and nobody chimes in.

That would be quite an odyssey

@jokerdino Hahahaha!
For anyone frustrated with the removal of the "Last seen" info of a user's profile, here is a userscript that adds it back:

Q: Is the <blockquote> tag working correctly in ths forum?

Paul A.I've been trying to use the blockquote tag to include literal output in this forum, but I cannot get it to work for me. My understanding is that if a chunk of text is surrounded by the blockquote and /blockquote tags (each enclosed in <>), then newlines within that chunk will be preserved. But t...
