Hi. This doesn't seem to have room in the main site, so I'm asking here

Is there something wrong with:http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/releases/18.04/release/lubuntu-18.04-desktop-i386.iso
That's the link that downloads Lubuntu 18.4 32-bit

@dgood1 sounds like a connection issue on your end. I see it downloading very fast:

@terdon C.S.Cameron told me I need to stop commenting on 14.04 being off topic and that 16.04 will not be off topic in April of this year. He gave me this link wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases and told me both 14.04 and 16.04 are supported for many more years. This goes against everything I had been told please clarify. BTW this is not the first time this guy has told me to stop commenting on things.

Q: Is Ubuntu 14.04 off-topic on Ask Ubuntu?

C.S.Cameron THREAD NOTICE: This issue has been raised to Mark Shuttleworth, the Ubuntu Community Council, and the Ubuntu Technical Board via this email message (TB is the only public archive version of the email). You may wish to wait for official governance and definitions on "End of Standard Support", "E...

Thomas is our resident expert on this. He's a mod here and is also an Ubuntu member, so he can be considered an authority.
I don't know enough about the details and the difference between end of life vs end of support to have a strong opinion, so I'll go with: "Has @ThomasWard posted an EOL notice about this release on meta? If yes, it is off topic and if not, it isn't".

OK thanks
Also the actual end date for 16.04.
This CS guy seems to have been watching me like a hawk and takes any chance he has to tell me to go away lol
I have stopped voting and using flags what so ever and have been limiting my comments and not offering any help so do not know what else can do to stay out of trouble.
I thouhgt it was ok to remind people 16.04 is getting old.

2:59 PM
@David it is. if CS Cameron is being overly rude and problematic, report it
let mods handle it

ok

depending on how Canonical defines the terms "end of standard support" and "EOL" and "ESM" per the inquiry up at Canonical now via the ubuntu community council, that will likely drive the policy decision, regardless of CS Cameron's statements

The only one I clearly understand is ESM
you pay you play.

that's what CS Cameron is arguing. "ESM is freely available! We should still support ESM systems!"
^^ basically their argument
now. if anyone disagrees with that statement: i invite them to voice their opinions on the meta thread HERE - CSCameron has 'self-accepted' their answer which means squat in the overall thing
but your opinions are valid and need to be heard
so share your opinions there. either as an answer, on my answer, on his, etc. - opinions matter.
and that includes you too @terdon if you're bored :P

My point and my only point is I am not an expert in many things and learn new things all the time. I just Want to be accurate.
Commenting in a OP question that I am giving wrong info is in my book rude.
I get myself in enough trouble without any help.
Just ask my ex wife I had to move 13 000 km away to make her happy.

3:45 PM
the system will eventually pick it up but it's slow as heck.

Q: Policy Change Proposal: "End of Standard Support" for ESM releases is effectively the "Not Supported" date for a release on Ask Ubuntu

Thomas WardThis is a proposal for adjusting a policy. The Community at large should vote on this change and determine whether or not they are in support of it. This is as simple as upvoting or downvoting the question - however answers are appreciated to vice your viewpoint, there are "Yes, I support the p...

@ThomasWard I feel like looping in the CMs on this is a good idea
There might be 'similar' arguments based on the ruling here on other sites

@JourneymanGeek I will make a note:
other sites are other sites :P
how one site determines its end of support policies doesn't necessarily drive the others

eh, its one network. not really for a ruling, but so they're aware

I can't think of any other site that could have something similar though. AU is very closely linked to Ubuntu and Canonical so the rules about EOL feel like they'd be better hashed out here.

@terdon there's a bunch of cross pollination between sites
as well as the process in general

3:52 PM
that doesn't mean that we dictate the policies for i.e. U&L which is one of the closest sites
Ask Ubuntu is unique compared to other sites
we're closely linked to Ubuntu and Canonical, almost as a niche site
in terms of things being migrated to us the only stuff I see comes from U&L primarily

dictate, naw.

and @terdon has been a mod here so listens well
influence maybe but that's not our concern with Ask Ubuntu

but we might end up getting your spill over and or someone might use that as a precedent for rules changes

@JourneymanGeek how is this different than when we say "Ask Ubuntu no longer supports an EOL release" and someone goes to U&L to post their post where they don't follow that policy?
that problem is a perpetual and "always has existed" problem.

Exactly!

3:54 PM
so basically
you're saying that you want to address the current status-quo situation
... which has been this way since the dawn of Ask Ubuntu.

Or if there's a change in rules, or otherwise, someone might bring it up on SU for various reasons as "they did that"
or U&L
and some of the other 'niche' sites might have similar rules - there's a few other distro specific ones

Looks like I got the first up vote :)

@David congrats

@David make sure to voe "yes" or "no" onthe relevant answers too
because CS Cameron is complaining about voters, etc. on answers in his thread being "the reviewers who blindly vote on moderator posts as plus" I've made to actual 'ballot' boxes.

@AskUbuntuMeta Woah. You're channeling your inner Eliah there, @ThomasWard!
Thanks!

@terdon or my pure unadulterated rage into civil discussion mechanisms

heh

since I"ve been on the Community Council I've gotten better at policy writing and stuff.
but i also stole that from my dad the lawyer ;)
