@AnwarShah see the edit history. he edited the answer quite a bit after my answer
@AnwarShah wait, does it mean the method was bad??!
@izx I think you got a comment :-)
@AnwarShah naw, i just came back now.
4 answer is a row..
@jokerdino I don't know actually. but it is hacking-ish . It would be better if original settings can be restored
@AnwarShah blah, remove the nautilus -n from autostart
@jokerdino I commented on both of your answer to add how to get paper free things
@jokerdino then again those right-click hell?
BTW, I am now reading this interesting story
15:05
@AnwarShah ok thanks
@AnwarShah well yeah ;p
@AnwarShah okay
Oh, my gawd. what happened?

what that means?
to be honest, i am still trying to find out who that 6 that voted for me.
i was one of them :P
15:32
not possible
@AnwarShah fear of cats
what's ^^ this?
jrg
jrg
@RolandTaylor I'll get it all installed and then do my proper review.
@AnwarShah what, the network?
jrg
jrg
Probably chat doing a "checkin"
15:34
I am not doing any uploads.. but half are uploads
whatever you say is uploading
jrg
jrg
You're posting messages to chat. That counts as a upload.
but that behaviour is not familiar
it's now stopped
jrg
jrg
do you have gmail or something in the background that might be doing that?
nop
I am using opera
15:35

that i know nothing about networking
jrg
jrg
N.N? He's a TeX.se guy.
I'm now confused.
15:38
@jrg good...?
jrg
jrg
@AnwarShah those two bumps that the arrows are pointing to are the testing messages above.
testing
perhaps i'll run in the next mod election :P
if we have one.
anyways... the time has come... for FOOD
jrg
jrg
I seriously just tried to bargain for a NookColor in Linux ISOs and USB sticks. :P
lolololololol
@jrg i'd sell you my nook tablet for $200 and twenty Ubuntu 12.04 64bit Desktop USB sticks, ten with KDE and ten with GNOME.
15:41
Now on fossfreedom chapter..
jrg
jrg
3 4GB USB sticks loaded with my ISO collection, including my custom, not-available-on-the-internet spins?
@LordofTime It'd be cheaper to just buy one.
@jrg the nook tablet is the larger-space device
and it has additional androidy features
OK, good question: Is there any plan to implement SUSE studio like feature for Ubuntu?
jrg
jrg
@AnwarShah sigh I wish.
@AnwarShah having fun are we?!
15:43
it is open source. you can go ahead and do it!
jrg
jrg
That'd make a lot of things easier.
@AnwarShah whats this now?
that is #1 wishlist for Ubuntu
@fossfreedom yes, sir. Mr. DM
I am on the first paragraph.
@AnwarShah first paragraph of what?
@LordofTime Moderator election story 2012
jrg
jrg
15:46
Dang. I forgot that you can upload custom RPMs to SUSE Studio.... drools
@jrg Can I build deb from SUSE studio?
jrg
jrg
@AnwarShah No, unfortunately. SUSE is a RPM thing.
hmm
moderator is boring ;p
I saw, yum has a feature to check dependency from the current directory
15:48
no fun at being yelled at whenever you decline LOT's flags ;p
it would be nice, if that feature also ported to apt
ah
@jokerdino i dont yell at people for that...
i argue though
:P
ANYWAYS, FOOD TIME

15:51
@LordofTime haha, just joking ;p
And I grabbed the just things
i yell at mods if they delete my upvoted answers ;p
though it stopped being a big matter now
> Believe or not, I don't answer that many Q's in a day - just three or four on average!
@AnwarShah ... not so much now.
he stopped answering a lot of questions now
everyone will admit moderator diamond has taken a toll on foss.
15:53
we believe
no kidding ;p
@jokerdino nah - having alternative python fun.
@fossfreedom (@_@)
converting old code to new.
yes. I am not also
15:55
@fossfreedom interesting
code refactoring!
> @Boltclock last I checked, gajdipajti(sp?) has more rep then you.
hey mods, can i know what's my current flag weight number? i always wanted to know
just hope it is above 700.
weight for flag???
didnt flag weight got dumped a while back?
have mercy on flag bearer
15:57
i thought you guys can know the flag weight?
it is just not visible to us isn't it?
jrg
jrg
Let me find my note about the math behind flag weight.
uh oh, midnight clock is ticking
Be back tomorrow. time's up apparently
jrg
jrg
@jokerdino Start at 100. 4 helpful add 4 * 10 gets you 140. 13 declined subtract 13 * 10 = 130, leaving you with 10 flag weight.
what are flag weights?
jrg
jrg
16:19
Flag weight is a really archaic manner by which the system would tell moderators how important a flag is, based off of the flaggers past performance.
what is the weight for me?
btw, I am now on your part
> after all, unlike Jorge Castro, I am only human.
jrg
jrg
According to the calculations I just did based off of this, it's 1480. But I don't think thats accurate, since you don't have the flag badge that goes with it. So I might be making a mistake there.
what is a flag badge?
flag related badge may be..
16:36
bye
whoops, i killed the planet.
citizen patrol's the "first flagged post" badge.
Deputy's the "Raised 80 helpful flags" badge.
and marshal's at 500 helpful flags

Q: Understanding udev rules and permissions in libusb

studentI had a problem with my scanner. Xsane worked only as root. Using it as normal user it didn't find any devices. Adding the user to the groups saned or scanner didn't help. Finally I solved the problem by changing # 'libusb' device nodes SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ENV{DEVTYPE}=="usb_device", MODE="0664...

@jrg also, i thought they purged flag weight
jrg
jrg
@LordofTime They purged public flag weight.
@jrg so flag weight exists privately now?
THEY NEED TO DISCLOSE THIS CRAP
(btw, what's mine if you know :P)
jrg
jrg
16:50
you can still calculate it, and it appears to be used internally by the system.
/me probably has a very high flag weight
i remember when i got the Deputy badge
that was awesome.
jrg
jrg
shrugs you can calculate it yourself, the data is available to you.
lies.
the data's curve is not.
back when they had a flag weight system publicly...
jrg
jrg
Just use the "formula" i posted above.
the data was on some type of exponential or logarithmic curve
so the higher you got the harder it was to increase flag weight
jrg
jrg
16:54
There is that element, but i don't have the calculations around anymore.
@jrg then this calculation is false, since you didnt take into account the logarithmic-ish nature
which explains why the badge didnt show up for them
jrg
jrg
@LordofTime It is accurate enough for most people. 99% of users never get anywhere close to the badges, or to the point where that calculation is inaccurate.
but for the remaining 1% who get the deputy or marshal badges, the calculation is inaccurate :P
for the record i'm bored as heck at work, so i have nothing better to do than argue mathematical inaccuracies :P
bored?
then do some reviews yo!
@JorgeCastro on a Windows system?
condemns Windows
17:02
sure
you only need a browser to fix people's questions
iexplore = crap
jrg
jrg
But it can handle chat...?
@JorgeCastro , can you jet me a mail (contact info in my profile) - this is basically a juju charm for this service, we can put this in Ubuntu itself! ; sorry didn't understand
Update Manager failed to download repository, 401 error http://askubuntu.com/questions/170076/update-manager-failed-to-download-repository-401-error?atw=1 #updatemanager
@MuhammadQasim Hi!
yeah so basically we can put log.io into ubuntu by taking your answer and making a juju charm out of it!
17:11
@JorgeCastro , How are you ?
i m " zero " about juju charm , i dont know what is it
i did read about it . its managing services
yeah
so basically, your instructions are a script, and then people can just deploy log.io
so it'll be like "juju deploy logio" and then it'll do everything for the user
you won't have to do all the manual config, it's like apt-get but with multiple computers
wow its g8
@jrg not directly, with some nasty kicking and poking and stabbing and eternal fires it works with chat though.
jrg
jrg
17:14
@LordofTime i see.
i have also made scripts && && &&
thats cool if we have juju deploy logio
@MuhammadQasim ok I'm going to file a bug on it
@MuhammadQasim are you interested in working on a charm? I can get you help, etc.
plus you can get a juju shirt and mug from me if your charm goes into the charm store!
yes sure , i was going to ask you the same thing
Where do i get Start ?
17:22
one sec
but you probably want to set it up first
@MuhammadQasim do you use IRC?
ok, I suppose we can just figure it out here
you probably want ^^^ configure a local environment in that last link
or maybe set up a VM or something
yes i have vmware ...
17:27
oh ok, so you'll probably want a new VM and then set up a local environment with juju
and then do "charm create logio", that will create an empty skeleton charm
and from there you can just plug in the stuff you did
@MarcoCeppi ^^^^ FYI, this could be an easy charm: askubuntu.com/questions/170061/how-to-install-log-io/…
ok will report back to you when i m done
17:46
@jokerdino if only you <s>knew how to</s> took the time to write a proper answer :P
jrg
jrg
BURN
@MuhammadQasim if you want realtime help you can plop in on #juju on freenode IRC if you get stuck!
LOLOLOLOL. Apparently the /etc/hosts file doesnt have localhost by default xD
@JorgeCastro Hey, a quick one, is there a way of getting a prompt message upon deploying a charm? ie: "you need to deploy this charm with foo_option=foo" if the charm was deployed without that option declared?
17:51
no, it needs to be idempotent. What you could do is put that in the readme
or just make the default be that option and have the switch go the other way
@JorgeCastro ok
@JorgeCastro the teamspeak3 charm requires that the user, per license agreement, reads the license, I have trying to get a way to guaranty that it was done but I don't know what the best would be
yeah, so basically put all that in the readme
it doesn't need to work with "juju deploy teamspeak3" ootb
let me find you an example readme
and then in there put a "Warning: this charm won't work unless you define a user..." and so on
or you could just say "this will make a default username and password, I recommend you change it."
you could do it either way
17:56
@JorgeCastro you're a pile of knowledge and information links! ;)
@JorgeCastro Nice a node app
Actually, this would be a great charm + subordinate setup
if you didn't want to use papertrail
@JorgeCastro i thought teamspeak servers weren't built for juju?
or rather completely incompatible
@LordofTime you can't "scale-out" Teamspeak servers
but you can certainly deploy them
how to add PPA without being ask to press ENTER ?
@MuhammadQasim -y
ok
ty its -y
you can probably steal a bunch from another node charm
though lately you don't need the PPA to run some node apps
18:22
Repos for precise are only one "release" behind
0.6 vs 0.7
18:35
@LordofTime definitely, they are not made for scaling and the teamspeak3 charm probably is the simplest one there but you can use it to deploy a server, use it and abuse it and simply destroy it when you are done... nice eh?
indeed.
let me know when i can deploy 6 servers at once on a 250MB RAM machine :P
you would, depending on the number of actual connections to each, 250MB would be enough to have around 10 servers with 10 connections each ;)
6 servers, 85 connections each
:P
that would probably exhaust it :P
you see my dilemma :P
now if only there was a way to deploy ZNC quickly :P
We're about to find out how well cross-compiling for OS X works from Linux.
I've got the GCC toolchain building.
@JorgeCastro does this work with the ZNC nightlies is the question
Er... 30 seconds in and I'm getting compiler errors. Fun.
I guess I need to get the GCC source from Apple.
not it just uses what's in precise, you can add a switch to do nightlies though, that should be relatively easy
@Jorge i built and installed the nightlies already, that's the problem. znc doesnt like recompiling whilst running
it also breaks things apparently
/me tried to upgrade-in-place with the nightlies and broke half of ZNC
18:55
well it would restart the service
which would disconnect > 150 users per instance
:P
(at least in my deployments)
you run nightlies for 150 per instance?
150 users exist on a nightly instance
/me only updates once every month
had to, apparently 0.206 has a bug in it where transferring data from one server / instance to another server / instance won't work
and it generates all sorts of issues
19:18
ok i have done exact the same but not mysql https://juju.ubuntu.com/docs/write-charm.html#creating-the-charm
how do i deply service then
19:34
i'm a newbie who is needs to RD to a ubuntu 12.04 from mac
my ubuntu is an EC2 instance
@MuhammadQasim you are probably on step 4: juju.ubuntu.com/docs/charm-store.html
probably something like "juju deploy --repository . local:logio"

@stueng You know, I commented and pinged you on here like a week ago -- it's an absurdly simple fix...
Also, Xen 4.1 hypervisor is built into the stock kernel IIRC

Hello. @LordofTime Sorry for slow bounty as I was away killing my joints on Cape Cod.
jrg
jrg
@ObsessiveFOSS Enjoy the hike?
@jrg Not a hike. Kayaking on Snake River in Dennisport.
jrg
jrg
@ObsessiveFOSS drools I'm jealous.
Have fun?
All I did this summer was sit around, get caught in a hailstorm and get poison ivy for the first time in 6 years.
YOU WENT KAYAKING! DUDE! THAT BE EXCITING!
@jrg Not really. My joints are killing me as if I had been pulling a 2K(terminology annoying thanks to a giant lingual mishap that is Crew)
jrg
jrg
@ObsessiveFOSS I see.
21:34
@jrg I would have rather been at my computer. The motel where we were had really bad WiFi...
@LordofTime will be happy when he sees I have awarded his bounty after a three day bout of joint damage...
21:57
@izx I posted that question as I was leaving for a holiday expecting to have wifi at the resort but I've been without internet for some days :P
@stueng I have had the same problem in Cape Cod delaying my awarding a bounty...
I was at some get away relaxation spa resort thing, they say there's no wifi so that you can "disconnect" and "relax" and not think about work etc etc etc
the most stressfull thing about the whole holiday...? not having damn wifi!
driving up hills to get 3g reception the like
@jrg Why did the community user accept my edit as opposed to a real user?
@ObsessiveFOSS This happens when the reviewer (in this case it was me) clicks Improve (rather than Accept or Reject). Your edit, as you wrote it, goes into the edit history, you get credit for it in the history, and it's counted as an accepted edit, but Community is listed as the user who accepted the edit.
In contrast, if I had just clicked Accept (even if I had then edited the post again, and even if my edit were within 5 minutes of yours), it would show me as the user who had accepted the edit.
Hi all, just flagged a question as off topic

Q: When I plug my Xbox 360 Wired Controller It Just Keeps Blinking

KalebNoobMasterI plug in my Xbox 360 controller it just keeps blinking. I've installed the xboxdvr but it didn't do anything...

95% sure this has nothing to do with ubuntu, I used the "other" flag to explain the fix
wanted to explain in chat incase there were any doubts
22:10
I think he means in ubuntu
xboxdrv would be the driver for it I think
@JorgeCastro I agree. The question doesn't give much detail, but I think this is an Ubuntu question and xboxdvr is just a misspelling of xboxdrv.
yeah, I mean, the question is still pretty much unanswerable
but it's ontopic
Glad I came into chat then, you guys have it sorted
i fixed this a few weeks with the note I used you explain the flag on another machine
had the note stored in Nixnote fro reference
Wil leave it to you guysthanks
