Q: What do we do about the outdated questions that have good anwers?

Amal MuraliFor example, this is a question that was asked 10 years ago: How to run scripts on start up? It's the top result for "startup script ubuntu" and many other such queries. Most of the top answers are outdated, but there are a couple of good answers in the thread. The idea of AskUbuntu is to serve...

@jokerdino Can't believe my eyes actually, when a whining, full of self-esteem and self-pity - post, saying "oh, how dare he touch MY post, named like I WANT IT. I WANT RESPECT." actually gets a single vote, but it's got six... AND he is wrong technically. The world is full of surprises.
There is a way to telling people they are wrong. Piling on will not help the cause though.
They certainly might go defensive and start reacting and what not.
That's what I think has happened here.
I know. But can't stand it.
It's not easy and we are all learning to live with each together. It's a process.
For the record, that person did flag that he doesn't like the edits and that was way before the edit war happened.
Still, I appreciate that they brought it to meta for a discussion and I suspect they did eventually realize that they are wrong and just trying to save their face. Natural reaction, IMO.
Must be a language thing, but I read he is not satisfied and wants his "justice". I would have expected a gentle (not my strongest quality, I know) suggestion that that is not how AU works, as an answer, but all we get is... not that.
Before I could chip in, lots of people had their say. So I figured it's better not to pile on.

Right, of course.
It was meant in general.

@terdon If I was expressing aggresively, I appologize. I don't know how to say things differently in a digital-only worls. I meant what I said though, I resent having to deal with a "they all like what I did, so it has to be right" -kind of argumentation. Allergic to it. Braiam isn't the most political user, but he stands for his own technical argumentation. Which is rarely incorrect.
@terdon wait, you found my answer aggresive? (dangerously assuming you just downvoted)
What part is that?
@JacobVlijm I didn't vote. I deleted my comment, but apparently not quickly enough :/ But yes, everything you wrote in the comments there as well as what you've said in here was needlessly aggressive. "horrible, horrible argument"? The way you completely dismissed the OP wasn't helpful either. All parties were at fault there, it takes two to start an edit war.
The right thing to do when you see the OP revert your edit twice is to walk away and flag, or to leave a comment explaining why you are making the edit or something. not to just redo the edit all over again.
Agreed, hence my "apart from the edit war". I never said I agreed with (also) Braiam's edit war, I disagree with the "don't touch my question, it is MINE, and it stays like that no matter what."
Sure. But all of this only became a problem IMO because everyone (including the OP) was pretty aggressive over it.
If there hadn't been an edit war, I doubt it would have been an issue.
It's usually enough to just explain how the site works and explain why the edit was valid (as @Zanna did). The OP did accept it, after all.
I understand he found a in-between naming acceptable, which is nothing of both, but I need to reread.
Can't read Zanna's post as an explanation how things are around here btw, but that's probably a matter of interpretation.
@terdon Nope, not a word about it, just about wether the wording is right or not.

Anyway, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have gotten involved. That's why I deleted my comment, I regretted wading into the fray. I'll quietly back away now.

Q: Why is sportsmanship considered under the moderation badges in election statistics?

DanI was looking at the election page and was surprised how some of the nominees don't have 100% of the moderation badges. Only to find out it was the sportsmanship badge that is missing. That badge requires the following: Up vote 100 answers on questions where an answer of yours has a positive...

Q: If I get question banned on StackOverflow, will I also get banned on AskUbuntu?

mmkstarrI am on the verge of being banned from asking questions on Stack Overflow. I'm not sure why, I guess people don't really like my questions. Need mod's help.
@Archer yes
@jokerdino I created a new account on this website, but it got formed by a wrong username
what kind of help do you need?
when you mean this website, do you mean the chat website or Ask Ubuntu?
@jokerdino Ask Ubuntu
@Archer You can edit the display name here → askubuntu.com/users/edit/1093943
18:41
@jokerdino But shouldn't it be correct by default?
your network profile is having the username abcd
@jokerdino How do you change that?
Click the Update profile info link in that network profile and select the profile you want to copy from.
@jokerdino I updated that. Then I deleted my askubuntu profile and recreated the account but it again shows abcd be default.
You can just edit the display name. Not necessary to delete and recreate.
