Please downvote and delete this askubuntu.com/a/912928/295286 into oblivion for security reasons. Passwordless root login over SSH on an IoT device !!!
@chili555 According to this: gist.github.com/mkaminsky11/eaf2d643917b22edb510 there is a way
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy why is it even possible to configure the server this way? that’s a bad idea in every setup I can imagine.
@dessert Good question to which I don't know an answer - only developers know, and probably it was a feature when OpenSSH server was first created :\
I get why one doesn’t want to limit users but let them decide, but this? …
@dessert If I may ask for a favor, please star that post with link to the answer so others can see. Moderators can unstar it later. I'm off to fight with sleep - my Nemesis.

Q: Save and Restore apt packages WITH versions

AlkalineI'd need to list the packages AND their versions installed on a Ubuntu box so that it can be re-created on other boxes, or the original box later on if needed. Enan AjmainI've moved to dwm. And I now have the following system of workflow. Start computer Ignore gdm, goto tty2 with Alt+Ctrl+F2 Run startx with the following xinitrc. Use dwm. Will there be any problem if I use my computer without gdm, only with xinit like that? The xinitrc is as follows: #!/bin/...

A: help/searching doesn’t mention the `deleted` operator

PerlDuckI know this isn't an answer to the question but we can see our own deleted posts from our profile: Open your profile: Open the Activity tab Open the answers or questions tab Scroll down and click deleted recent answers

@PerlDuck thanks!
17:44
Ah, yes I did. Albeit it's not a real answer. It was the way I found the answer I talked a few days ago and inspired you to pose that question.
@PerlDuck no, you wrote a helpful answer to my meta q, linked above
;)
Damn. I messed with the edit and cancel edit buttons. However. You know waht I meant.

Howdy
I'm trying to figure out how .desktop files and "favorite" icons work
I've downloaded Firefox Developer Edition, and I've created two profiles
So I've made two .desktop files, and placed them in ~/.local/share/applications
The two entires appear in the Dash search just fine, and everything is dandy there
So I set it up as favorite, and the click it, but then instead of the one I clicked lighting up and being active, a new instance seems to be opened.
Why does this happen, and how can I fix it?
18:46
@MadaraUchiha instead of ... 2 tabs?
@Rinzwind No, what happens is that...
0. Nothing is open - I have "Firefox Developer - Personal Profile" in my dash, unopened
1. I click it
2. A new entry appears on the dash bar "Firefox Developer Edition", and the original entry remains "unopened"
The expected behavior is that 1. I click it 2. It opens and becomes active itself, without creating a new entry on the dash bar
aha. nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo idea :-D sorry
and that is from a notebook with a broken o :X
loooooooooool
:D
my delete key is broken too :P
I reallyneed a new notebook :(
Better not type embarrassing things then
19:06
do you guys know of a way to "apply" the result of an ls -lR somewhere?
I have a partition on my phone with messed up permissions (I think)
so I'm getting the result of that command from someone else with the same phone
I was going to do a diff and then manually chmod the differences, but if there's a POSIX way to do it that'd be a lot easier
19:36
@Rinzwind if broken keys are the whole problem, all you need is a new keyboard. however, if you want to get rid of the old laptop, my 6yo son is currently looking for something to play minecraft and learn bash. :>

@TheWanderer chmod and chown have an option for that :)
alas little known
maybe we should retitle that question something really generic like "I ran this chown command by mistake" so that people always land on it (yes, I'm advocating the opposite of my usual position)
> How could I tell him that the libass is existent?
this sentence makes me lol
I once ran chmod -r a+x // (instead of ..) and owned myself out of my ssh session and any future ssh sessions due to invalid permissions
Fun times.
it's too easy to mess it up
if you were using Windows, you'd surely get a pop up saying "Hello! You seem to have a loaded gun pointed at your own foot and an itchy trigger finger. Would you like to take a deep breath and count to ten?"
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy insomnia?
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy gone... is the question OK?
21:29
@Zanna It's Linux's firm belief that if you want to shoot yourself in the foot, it ought to provide the most efficient way to deliver the bullet.
indeed. and we like it that way, for the most part, I think :)
The occasional epic screw up is worth all the innumerable sessions of peace during which you ask the system to do things and it does those and only those with no annoying unsolicited advice

I just ran the command grep ass. :-D
the ass helped, but I also find it funny when people gender inanimate objects (because that's normal in their native language)... here the script is completely anthropomorphised by this sentence... it sounds like the OP is asking for some kind of personal advice... "How can I tell him I'm gay?"
I should really edit, but haven't the heart
If anyone is interested - I've ported the SO Dark Chat + extension to Firefox

@Zanna Question seems OK. The only quirk I have with it is that it's modified Lubuntu from Orange Pi, which is still Lubuntu but not from Cannonical, so it raises the question if it is a supported flavor
@Zanna Sort of. I've recently realized it's tinnitus - ringing in the ears, barely noticeable but noticeable enough at night when there is no noise. So I've a theory this induces my insomnia lately
Cause - unknown. I've bunch of issues with my body. Crooked spine, possible effect from severe wisdom tooth surgery, damage of lower back from deadlift at 14 y.o. , concussion at like 10 y.o. , oh and I was born half - deaf , only one ear works.
Meanwhile, it's whole lot of issues with parents
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy Have you tried white noise generators?
A fan, an AC, or even an artificial one from speakers?
@MadaraUchiha Sort of. I've been listening to ASMR for years on YouTube. I was only focused on tingles initially, but now that I have realized what's wrong with my ear, ASMR was something that drowned the sound and I didn't even realize it
Friend of mine has a similar problem of waking up from every tiny noise when it's too quiet, and his solution was to bring the base noise level up, seemed to have worked./
Bleh, fan or AC won't go well with my parents. They're currently more focused on calling police to evict me, and will complain more about me using so much electric energy
@terdon Could you please remove my star walled message about downvoting a poor answer ? Thanks
22:08
Sorry, couldn't help star the kitteh
Internet is for cats
Heh
Must have been in my clipboard and I accidentally pasted without noticing
Or I have an awful bug in my ported extension
Only time will tell :D
@dessert Whenever I'd like to appreciate my bodeh, I use touch butt command, even though it can be one with < butt
$ cd /
$ touch this
touch: cannot touch 'this': Permission denied
queue in MC hammer
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy oh :( recently I had a few rounds of really appalling insomnia where I couldn't sleep at all for 3 or 4 nights, and it would go on for a week, really terrible. But I cured myself. No tinnitus though. But I hope you can get that fixed
22:14
Hotel Git: "You can checkout any time you want, but you can never commit" :p
@Zanna Hopefully someday. So far couple pressure points and stretches of neck muscles didn't work, so I'll need an actual doc someday, but can't afford that in the near future.
Jeez how can the world be so messed up people can't afford basic healthcare
Time to sleep here, later all
Sweet dreams <3
@Zanna 🙋‍♂️
@MadaraUchiha wrong sign. Though let's not get into gender discussion there.
AFKing
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy I always thought that emojis represented the sender, I am male, hence male emoji
22:31
@MadaraUchiha Well, hard to tell without context. One emoji could be understood. Two together - harder.
@Zanna BTW, since your icon floated back into chat, I wanna lay off my chest something: Whenever I may seem either terse or seems accusing , just remember - I've no reason, and I've moved on much from SO types of drama. I only care about best answers I can give
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy It is one emoji
Your client is misrendering it :)
The combination turns the normal emoji from female to male
🙋‍ + ♂️ = 🙋‍♂️
Weird emoji, but OK. I guess we now live in the age of emojis that are more than one char
Well, I'm on Chrome, so IDK why the difference. Maybe I need to upgrade it
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy There are quite a few combinations like this, that's how they make colors and stuff
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy Wandows?
Wait, that's a ridiculous question in this room
22:36
Nope, Deepin Linux
Very peculiar
I recall that emoji working for me in Chromium just fine
Although I do have Win 10 on my other laptop
I sort of made peace with Windows by now.
Though I do keep virtual box on it with Ubuntu server and CentOS
And very soon I might even make peace with GNOME desktop. Even though Unity, Deepin, and OpenBox are still my favorites
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy sure :) I am too sensitive and lately I am extremely grumpy. For the last 6 months I have basically been descending into a pit of negative emotions. But I think I am starting to figure the way out
@Zanna That's good. Pretty much same here - I had a roller coaster of emotions and psychological thingies, but at least have a sense of direction now
So that is to say, I come from a point of at least minor understanding that life outside of AU can be a bit tough
