@terdon @Fabby @dessert @Terrence The missing link here that is not perhaps clear to all is that aircrack is supposed to change the wireless from Managed mode to Monitor mode. It can't do so if the hardware and driver don't support monitor mode. sudo iw list
Supported interface modes:
* IBSS
* managed
* AP
* AP/VLAN
* monitor
The Broadcom STA driver, aka wl, does not. Hence the errors.
@chili555 a lot of hardware dosen't do monitor mode...
@chili555 Well, it happens all the time when people purchase systems with hardware that doesn't support certain things. Most of what I have ever used that mode for is work collecting data if any rogue wireless units are up. It is a pretty secure place, so that is the only time that they allow us to use Wifi in monitor mode.
especially now - since you don't need it for AP mode
@JourneymanGeek Yes! I see the question here and elsewhere fairly regularly. Sometimes they ask if something can be done.
The only confusion I am thinking is that the dupe in question was answered back in 2012 where we are in 2019. But I am thinking that they haven't changed it in 7 years.

Like what? Rewrite the proprietary driver??
@chili555 more or less you need to buy a adaptor that supports it.
We have a site for things like that ;)
@Terrence I have heard of no change and when I ask to see sudo iw listt it still doesn't mention AP
(hardware recs)
for some reason I think its firmware related too
Yes on both counts
@chili555 Good point! Honestly, when I read your answers you really do seem to me that you know exactly what you are talking about. =)

Thanks for your kind words.
I try to explain carefully because there are a lot of new users and non-English speakers out there
That is soooo true! It is hard to answer those questions with the language gap.
Thanks for your confidence, y'all! It is getting late here so I am going to say g'nite.
Have a great night!
See y'all again soon. Bye.

Q: Securely passing string over SSH

PhilThe following takes place on Ubuntu 18. I need to automate the remote seeding of a gpg-agent with a passphrase stored on my local machine using SSH. The passphrase needs to be handled in such a way so that it cannot be easily viewed by other nosey users - principally on the remote server, but a...

Q: Where do I find files specific to a user?

Alexander TolubI've been having a problem connecting to my rabbitmq server when I start it on my local machine. The problem is caused by the fact that apparently the erlang cookie of the server, running on my local machine, does not match the cookie on my local machine (doesn't sound right, huh?). After some re...

Hey everyone! Nvidia Drivers don't seem to Load on Ubuntu 18.04. I saw this answer but it seems hard and kind of like a work around: askubuntu.com/questions/1040515/…
Anyone have any suggestions, or is that what I need to do.

@Mrlong2 Try this one first.
@chili555 I never argue with the master himself. If the master says "jump", the paddawan asks "How high?"
;-) :-)
