@terdon Thanks terdon. So is pv file > output for example the same as dd if=/dev/sdX of=/dev/sdXX?

6:05 AM
@TheWanderer sambar is definitely not chutney
@JourneymanGeek not to me, but, if you say so...
I am hungry and I know breakfast in this hotel is going to consist of orange juice and beans on toast sigh so best not to think about vada of any kind or anything it can be accompanied by

@TheWanderer no
a 'classic' chutney is either a paste or a watered down paste.
Its never served hot
Even if individual componenets are heated pre blending.
You would have various levels of chunkiness
That's certainly some variety of gravy
though
those appear to be dumplings I've never seen before
but that's certainly not a chutney

6:21 AM
Hmm I guess those things do look like dumplings. I just assumed they were less liquid regions. But why would you need dumplings here? Maybe they have soaked some of the mutli things in there already for some reason...

I mean the mutil things

Oh, right, yeah
I couldn't find any more about it. All the search results I get are misspellings of multi

6:40 AM
might be able to wbm it

Nice! Isn't that chutney there??

hm
nooooo
pretty sure not

6:57 AM
well... looks like it to me... at least, it's not sambar I think
lol

Q: Unexpected error message in a /etc/profile.d script

kaklonUbuntu 18.04 I'd like to check, when a user logs in, that his share point(s) is/are mounted. If not, it prompts the user if he wants to mount it. If yes the mount command is executed, which will prompt the user for it's password. Works ok but a Failed to query password: Permission denied error ...

Q: How to migrate a whole partition?

gpolopopI have two computers (old and new) connecting by a cable, now I try to move/copy/clone a partition to the new computer, without copying files one by one. Then the new can access the files copied from the old easily, how to do for this question?

@Terrance some people like to find problems

4:49 PM
@Rinzwind Sounds about right. They also like to include a bunch of information that seems to be irrelevant to the question.

Q: GTK3 inconsistent font and element size

Reza HajianpourI'm using Ubuntu 18.04, installed a couple of desktops, but I'm getting this weird behaviour where GTK3 windows, buttons and fonts are either too small or two large. For example, this is a terminal window on my xfce4: Notice that not all elements are huge, and all fonts are set to 12 or 10. I...

@Terrance Sounds like recipe for disaster five years down the line in my opinion :D

@vidarlo I agree with you big time on that one! I like how you answered it and you got my +1 on it. =)

yup
at work there's authentication required for most browsing

Good addition to it too. =)

*.debian.org, *.ubuntu.com, *.microsoft.com and so forth does not require authentication, for exactly this reason

6:50 PM
Very interesting, but I get why they did it.

2 hours later…
9:16 PM
Isn't this more suited for some Network Engineering SE, and off-topic on AU?

9:30 PM
@vidarlo It would be off-topic on suggestions for the software alone.
It is an open ended question.

aaaand this user has some... rather dubious answers.

Interesting. I can't see things that the specific user has posted. Maybe I need to be at least 20K
I voted that other one as too broad
@Fabby \o

o/

=)

@vidarlo casting delete votes and downvoting...

9:38 PM
NOw I see it on that other user. UGH! Too tired on a Friday! =)
@vidarlo That user posted the same answer to different questions, what, 4 times? And none of them helped. Strange..... I wonder why it didn't work? big sarcasm

@Terrance that was what kinda caught my attention...

@vidarlo I am very much seeing that. WOW!! That is not how you earn people's respect around here. =)

haha, is that anywhere?

Good point!
My mistake. Same answer 7 times.

@chili555 are you sure about your dupe-vote here? It's been flagged as incorrectly closed, and I admit that it doesn't look like a dupe to me. But you know way more about this sort of thing.

This user drives me crazy. She keeps posting a similar and unclear question on how to rename or split (?) files. When asked for clarification, all of a sudden the filenames to process are different. :-(

@terdon Pretty sure its a dupe.
The question is why can't I get monitorr mode in my Broadcom.
The dupe says, quite correctly, that the hardware and driver combination don't support monitor mode.
Hence, no monitor mode/aircrack foolishness for you!!

Yes? No? Maybe??

@chili555 Terdon is vast asleep, whereas I've had too much Vodka and Coke to be sleepy!
;-)

@chili555 I just looked over the question and the one in the dupe, and to me it definitely looks like a dupe considering that OP is running the w1 driver that is stated that it does not support monitor mode. 100% agreement from me.

@chili555 sounds like a perfect explanation for something that admittedly doesn’t look like a dupe at first glance
