Would a question why Ubuntu 18.04 in WSL fails before WSL is started be on topic on Ask Ubuntu?

Q: How do I install dselect package via terminal?

WhiteGloveIntroduction I am still new in Linux as you might see in other questions I made previously. This time I was tasked to install the "dselect package" but can't seem to find any "apt-get command thing" on the internet. Only commands which use the dselect command from the Debian docs. What I have t...

@vidarlo Well is Ubuntu failing in this case? Sounds like it isn’t even started yet, so how would it fail?
12:34
@dessert that is why I am unsure. I'm utterly new to WSL, so I don't know how far up the stack it's considered on topic. I take your reply as nope, which is what I'm leaning towards myself :)
(and also why I'm asking, and not writing the question)

Q: Ubuntu & Linux Mint (Ubuntu Based) software availability?

VivekSince Linux Mint is Ubuntu based, does this means that most of the softwares and commands for software installation & updation will be same? For eg. sudo apt-get install vlc ? For eg. Will Synaptic Package Manager be common to both ?

13:12
@vidarlo I think Super User would be the place to ask about it.
Not disagreeing :)

@vidarlo I'm leaning towards thinking of it as a Super User question.
Could some star this and upvote the feature request?
Thanks!

Q: Python project not able to find file

Ryan MarrWhen I run a python file it gives me an error: FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: ' /home/ryan/Desktop/Art.jpg' However I know this file exists and exists at this location because when I execute Locate Art.jpg I get: /home/ryan/Desktop/Art.jpg Why can't the python program ...

That is: 18.04.1 having no desktop from suspend - closing laptop lid had to use REISUB to reboot,
Hey Zanna
hello! doesn't resume from suspend when you close the lid?
I saw a couple similar question where the solution was to install gnome desktop and lightdm
I know nothing about it. I use MATE and I never suspend and now I'm going to sleep :(
21:07
Correct no resume after when closing lid, just the top right corner showed pause button to go back to sleep
okay nite
hmm at least you could REISUB it. I guess it could be worse
yep I'll research some more
would be interesting to know why it breaks
I have a problem that is really annoying - occasionally, randomly, when I plug or unplug the charger, the keyboard stops working
yeah I was about to upgrade my 16.04.5 when I saw this on my 18.04.1
Thats weird no kbd after, power setting on a laptop maybe to save energy
Might also be hardware at the point of the power plug
USB keyboard?
New laptop seem to be reducing size by giving up hardware, I will never use a tablet, Thinking of rebuilding an old desktop lately I want all my hardware devs with expansions etc for Music recording
Static charge could be causing a hardware control flag to 0 on your kbd. Anyway good luck finding that solution. Intermittent issue are the hardest to solve
