I'm using Ubuntu and i just installed the 18.10 version as a dual boot with windows. I'm trying to find and move some files from /home/user/fol1 to /home/user/fol2.
Generally I would use
find . -type f -name "abc*" -exec mv -t "/path/to/foo/bar" {} +
but this overwrites files with same names already present in /path/to/foo/bar.
I want it to skip the files if already present t...
I am running Ubuntu 16.04 on a Dell XPS 15 with an Nvidia GTX1050i graphics card. I have several nvidia driver versions installed but 410.79 is the one being used. My kernel version is 4.15, which I believe is the latest. (I have done previously done the same on 18.04 with the same results.)

Suppose one day I woke up and decided "I'm gonna start a blog about Ubuntu" or "I'm gonna write a book about Ubuntu". Over time I've accumulated large amounts of answers, some of which could be combined into chapters/blog posts of their own. Now, I know the reuse of other people's answers has to ...

I am using ubuntu 18.04 lts. After I close the lid (for 1 min+), ubuntu refuses to wake up. It flashes an error screen instead:
Does it have to do with grub?
I usually work around the issue by rebooting...but it takes a long time since I am using a hdd.
well you can rename (re-label) the drive (this looks ok to me - haven't tried it myself) but it will always automatically mount in /media/username rather than in /media
I believe that's for permission reasons - there's an ACL for you in /media/$USER to give you access to stuff mounted there
Quick summary: How can I arrange for USB FAT32 thumb drives to be auto-mounted as /media/USER/LABEL, with non-root read/write permissions?
(There are a lot of questions here about automounting USB drives, but I don't see one that's directly relevant.)

I am trying to compile some CUDA/GPU code on Ubuntu 16.04, but I am receiving the following error. I'm not sure how to debug this, can anyone offer suggestions?
nvcc -I/usr/local/cuda/include -gencode arch=compute_61,code=sm_61 -I/home/xxx/software/pr/include -I/usr/include/glib-2.0 -I/usr/lib/...
My understanding is that the kernel understands how to communicate with the different hardware in a system via specific device trees.
How is it that I can download one version of Ubuntu and I am able to install this on any system where the hardware may vary?
The same goes for the BeagleBone em...
