Can you answer this? Full install that went well, wont boot, not even from my usb stick. Really confused! http://askubuntu.com/questions/126579/full-install-that-went-well-wont-boot-not-even-from-my-usb-stick-really-confu?atw=1 #boot
@coversnail The review thing is smart, each of us will get a chance to review a question
so each one gets 2 eyeballs
then click "reviewed" and move on to the next one
it's a nice turbo-fast way
though, we've been swamped lately so you might want to switch to the month view
17:49
Do we have a good canonical question for "broken packages"? There is already one for held back packages.
probably search for dpkg --reconfigure -a
:(
All the existing candidates are mired in the particular circumstances of the OP...

Q: How to interpret errors.ubuntu.com graph data?

nealmcbThe graph and bar chart at the Ubuntu Error reports page seem to contain a lot of information. But I'm puzzled about the meaning of some of the values, and the page doesn't refer to any documentation. What does the "frequency" column measure, in what units? What does the "Mean Time Between Fai...

If any one has ears and half a brain to spare while doing menial review work, this makes good listening: feeds.feedburner.com/TheHistoryOfRome
@JorgeCastro It surprised me when it popped up, didn't think I was near to 500 flags at all! Looks like pretty esteemed company looking at the other owners of this badge :)

Is there a political science SE proposal?
if there's not there should be...but i don't think most poli-sci questions have definitive answers. at least half the questions would be discussion/CW
@fossfreedom google translate handles that one really well

@aking1012 ah, but we have skeptics.se, if they can make Q&A out of skepticism (and parenting), then we can make Q&A out of politics.
so true
20:35
@fossfreedom I gave that one an edit. I think it's a hybrid graphics bug report since the OP mentions both Intel HD and fglrx
thanks for that. Much appreciated.
Can you answer this? Grab Handles by Three-Finger Tap not working after upgrade to 12.04 http://askubuntu.com/questions/126923/grab-handles-by-three-finger-tap-not-working-after-upgrade-to-12-04?atw=1 #multitouch

@aking1012 I could get to really like this history of rome guy.
Think he's doing 'The rise and fall of the Soviet Empire'?
20:51
He may eventually. I think we'll see a resurgence in Soviet prowess in the next 20 years...but it has strayed off-topic now

Well, I'm subscribed so I'm going to look forward to the next one with relish. Right after I catch up on Rome with him...
I seem to remember a fellow doing a political podcast and funding it with an amazon search bar(just set the refferal string for everything you purchased on amazon to him in point of fact). Interesting way to pick up funding I suppose.

Nirmikbounty is set, only one answer given but not accepted till the bounty end day.what happens to the bounty? Does the only answer get the bounty despite it not being accepted(perhaps because the questioner did not check in again)?? and the answer being rite.

21:27
I liked it... made sense
I think this one needs some upvotes ;) askubuntu.com/questions/135629/…
heheh
thanks. I'm out of votes again.
@ruffEdgz Pretty sure that Q is a dupe.
darn... I look them up on the lens I have and didn't see anything
I will check again
@ruffEdgz Actually the one I'm remembering may have been for adding DNS servers instead of domains. So, it would be slightly different (though not much).
@belacqua I hear yea... I just answering questions that I know I could just flag :P

Q: Send error in SessSetup = -13 | CIFS mount on 10.10 server

sadmicrowaveI'm having issues with /etc/fstab mounts which were working yesterday but randomly stopped after my machine had a power crash. The /etc/fstab command is this: //128.251.xxx.xxx/common home/lv_admin/uslonsapp002 cifs cred=/etc/.na02passwd,rw,umask=0000,uid=www-data,gid=webgroup 0 0 The error I...

Q: How to override the DHCP-provided nameserver?

David ParksI (think) that I've configured a static IP address in /etc/network/interfaces: # The primary network interface auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 10.1.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 10.1.1.0 broadcast 10.1.1.255 gateway 10.1.1.1 And I change the file /etc/resolv....

@ruffEdgz Yes -- I think there is at least one more that is very close to the one you found, too.
@sadmicrowave Yuck. Have you done a full fsck on the drive?
@belacqua not sure what you mean.....so that means no, I have not
Just thinking you want to rule out drive corruption. You'll have to book from disk (or maybe from recovery mode?)
@belacqua heres the weird part, the mount point is a windows machine, and other windows machines can mount this drive, its just linux to windows that is not working
21:46
Hmmm.
does the windows machine have a DNS name assigned to it or just the IP?
So, it probably won't help much, but do a man fsck some time. Basically, your system does this for you occasionally on boot, but you can get it to do it manually.
@ruffEdgz just IP, since the linux server is not added to the domain it will not resolve the name with the DNS
my question is, what does this error typically mean? where is the problem originating?
I agree with @belacqua with doing a fsck on the root partition of your linux machine ;)
When looking around, it looks like its about not using an IP address and using a DNS name but like you said, if it worked before, then that bug isn't the problem :P
exactly

Q: Mono packages not listed in errors.ubuntu.com

trampsterI noticed that https://errors.ubuntu.com does not include any mono packages. Why is it that not a single mono application has generated a crash report? Am I to assume that mono applications don't crash? Does mono handle crashes in a way not detected in the crash reporting service?

I can flag it for ya if you wish Jorge
anyone got a "how to install diablo 3 via WINE" tutorial yet?
is it dup ?
@ruffEdgz what functionality is fsck expected to restore?
21:53
@sadmicrowave it will not restore anything but make sure after your power outage you don't have anything terribly wrong on your disk
@ruffEdgz ok, so in the root (base) dir, run fsck ?
you will have to run this command: sudo touch /forcefsck
after that, you will need to reboot the machine
@ruffEdgz running
@JorgeCastro Done
21:55
welcome
@ruffEdgz it didn't return anything
;)
type this: ls /forcefsck
did that return anything?
The command touch just makes an empty file on your system
it returned /forcefsck
good, that means it worked
21:57
now you need to reboot your linux machine
rebooting
its running fsck
good
I see a lot of mount error messages
that means its working and that will just be good for your system as a whole :P
@ruffEdgz ok it finished and it didn't seem to change anything, the mount -a command is still returning the same errors
22:40
did you change anything when it comes to credentials on the windows machine? Can anyone just mount the directory without any username/password?
no, nothing has changed, and no you can't get to it without a username/password combo
I noticed when the machine first boots and the login prompt appears I see at the top: "mountall: Disconnected from Plymouth"
I don't know what that means....but am looking it up now

A: Will not start after clean install (hangs at disconnected from plymouth) on a Toshiba Satellite

NeilManaged to fix it. For info this appears to have happened because I use an external monitor. The process to fix was: Disconnect Monitor, reboot Used Ctrl-Alt-F1, logged in as myself, ran startx Prompted by system to install post-release nvidia driver, did that Rebooted Plugged in external moni...

oh ok, so it seems the plymouth problem is unrelated to my cifs mounting issue
@ruffEdgz could my samba install be corrupted or something? I don't know, I'm grasping at straws here
22:57
@sadmicrowave Can you setup the windows share to not use a username? I haven't used windows in awhile and thats were I would start to see if its a windows or linux problem ;)
well since the mount point works from windows to windows I would assume the problem resides on the linux box
right?
maybe... but since 'error 13' talks about permissions and since a username and password helps you get those permissions, we need to make sure that it isn't the username/password you have stored in /etc/.na02passwd
yea I checked that too, I replaced it with another set of known good credentials and still got same error
hmmmmmmmmm
what about this guy...granted its fedora, but his solution at the bottom could be worth a shot
23:03
sounds like that bug was fix in 2011
but he was able to mount a partition without any security on the mount - -o sec=none
thats what I wanted to see if you can do ;)
@ruffEdgz I get the same error when trying to mount with that syntax
you are going to get it because windows is denying it ;)
because you don't have a domain/username and password
right...it seems like this whole issue is related to the windows machine denying it for some reason

poor guy
@sadmicrowave correct
@sadmicrowave troubleshooting it to see if its Linux not sending over the correct credentials or is it Windows just doesn't want to accept what the Linux machine is asking
@ruffEdgz well, we tried connecting to the windows box from yet another linux box and it fails also there....which seems like its the windows machine now refusing the credentials
jrg
jrg
Now tweeting to you from Lynx. Yes, I've really messed up Ubuntu badly.
