Hmm did our site lose the Stack Exchange part of the title?
Hello @jokerdino
@jokerdino Yep
This technically should be a comment... but then the images would be gone.
Darn
web socket only works with secured TLS for me
how do i sort this out?
06:00
@jokerdino Shall I ask on meta?
meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/132181/… i was following this question and i am left out
ask on Meta.SO?
The losing Stack Exchange part
nvm
06:13
oh i just got your question @AmithKK
just ask I think. I am curious as well
@GeorgeEdison Leave it until op responds to it
I'm going to record myself singing Dreams of an Absolution
:P
06:35
@fossfreedom that's not that easy, e.g., 'pixmap' != 'pixbuf'
@jokerdino Gtalk Please
07:29
@htorque any ideas how we can make this more generic? ... your answer solved a similar "aurora" GTK warning question that popped up.

08:03
Oh my god, I can't believe I just anwered that question. Screw me. Good night.
no upvotes for you sir

@jokerdino are you here?
what's the matter?
When I was installing 12.04 on my PC, there was a option to upgrade my current 10.10 system, is it possible?
don't think so
08:37
Nope
You have to go like 10.10>11.04>11.10>12.04
Or a risky method would be to edit your lsb-release to make it appear as though it is 10.04 and to a LTS-LTS upgrade
@Prasad --^
if you do that, don't come here for support in the (very likely) case that you break your system. :)
--^ That
It's best to backup fresh install
ok ok, I won't :-)
but users may confuse their-self when they see this upgrade option
If you are not sure, I'll post a screenshot
it's ok. i know what you are talking about
@Prasad It will work 10% of the time if all the stars and planets are aligned properly
08:41
@jokerdino see, you knew it too!
@AmithKK lol
i guess we should strictly not provide support for 10.10 users.
Yeah
@jokerdino are you kidding, right.....
@Prasad Nope
We're serious
@Prasad Why cant you use 10.04?
@Prasad HELLO?! 10.10 is eol already
08:43
10.04 is still supported
But I am using 12.04 right now :-)
10.10 is for..........testing (unity glass breaks easily, isn't it!)
@jokerdino no means, it won't break easily ?
i don't know what you are talking about but Unity is working flawlessly here.
if you don't like Unity, fair enough. But I don't appreciate you trying to persuade me to change my opinion on that.
@jokerdino Speak for yourself
08:47
@jokerdino doing experiments may break mine :-(
then do the experiments the proper way
@jokerdino I like unity, who said NO :-)
@jokerdino sorry for asking this, but I found your Pro pic on G+ with another name :-)
ok, yeah i know it
@jokerdino who is the fake :-)
08:56
OK..... I see. can I add..... or just ignore......
what do you want me to reply?
@jokerdino like this:-" prasad, add me, you will be a headache to me, but it's OK, " like that
As you said. ^^
10.04 is an LTS, and still supported as far as I'm aware.
@jokerdino OK, here goes... :-)
09:02
yes but not 10.10
I should upgrade my server to 12.04 :)
Then I don't have to worry about distribution upgrades until somewhere 2017 :p
Go ahead!
that's a smart move :P
@jokerdino do you use effects on 12.04 (using ccsm)?
09:20

Petar A.I did search but I did't find any BPF code to use on my computer, also there isn't any example code to use. My goal is to find low level functions to filter packets. I am working in C program language. I am using Ubuntu 12.04 with 3.2.0 kernel.

OH hi, @jokerdino you are the lucky one, you slipped away! that (mac) guy was a mess from the beginning :-)
that is not a pleasant way of addressing others.
@jokerdino it is not for you ..
if you are going to speak like this, i might have to report you...

http://askubuntu.com/questions/135462/building-the-latest-ati-driver-fails-for-my-kernel

Any of you familiar with the ATI driver? :3
sorry, no
@Prasad you cant do that
@Shiki why is everything in the pastebin :'(
@AmithKK because i'm not?
12:39
What else should I use @jokerdino? Oo
i am so lazy to click the links XD
oh. ÉD
:D
graphics driver are always in a mess :(
eats popcorn
@amith You should know the graphics driver very well
Right? :D
12:43
ATI?
Yeah?
Nope
previous installs been a success (surprisingly), but this one failed. and I have no idea why.
guess it's something trivial
Hmm, do we support non default kernels?
3.3.5 :S
yeah but it compiled with the latest kernel last time on Kubuntu...
12:47
if you don't get an answer in the next couple of days, then good luck :)
I guess it's a kernel config problem.
yeah sounds like a specific kernel issue
maybe I missed something... I'll check soon. (Gentoo's wiki can be really helpful these times: gentoo.org/doc/en/dri-howto.xml)
good luck with that :)
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
12:55
hola @TheX!
hello.
hey @TheX!
well I did disable a lot of debugging, SELinux, AppArmor code..but hey, who needs them. Gotta go fast.
(Btw the speedup is terrific. The new scheduler (BFS), the deadline I/O, the 1000hz and the preempt kernel. It's just awesome. I'll put up some kernels like this to my PPA.)
that would be nice of you :)
@TheX superuser.com/questions/154058/… can you verify if it still works for you?
assuming you are on Windows currently
letting aking take the centre stage now..
13:16
stage? what stage....i just woke up
jrg
jrg
Dang, you guys are all busy.
:)
@Shiki nice blog link on the profile page btw
is there something like that?
which page? :)
jrg
jrg
@Shiki which instructions are you following?
13:20
@jokerdino sorry got called away from my computer
Uhm nothing really. I just grabbed the patchset, patched the latest kernel and set the usual. But I made sure the wifi driver, the DRM and the other things get into the kernel. (But I didn't want to spend too much time configuring it.)
Lazyness won't always pay off. :(
Oh, that domain died, sorry about that.
jrg
jrg
St. Louis feels like hell, warm and deserted :/ Missing Europe and home.
i thought the domain name was funny
jrg
jrg
13:21
poor Bruno.
It was just a bunch of tips and stuff. I'll move the entries to a blogspot page or something. I'm lazy to maintain even a single blog
@Shiki I disagree, laziness always pays off :=P
But this time it didn't. :/
jrg
jrg
Just another PSA: For those of you flagging as 'too localized' or 'off-topic', please dump them in Ubuntu Regulators instead of in flags. Flags aren't really suited for stuff like that, and the mods are watching the close votes anyway. :)
4
13:22
then you didn't do laziness right then.
@thex it's fine. :)
@jokerdino I didn't even know there was a tomboy for windows...
jrg
jrg
(I hate giving PSAs.)
Windows feel alien. :S
I like windows... it is so pretty outside...
13:24
:)
jrg
jrg
Who needs windows? I just don't have walls.
@jrg how do you stay warm in the winter?
the Gentoo wiki has failed on me. all the listed options are enabled in my kernel too. :(
@jrg btw I will be driving by your house this summer...
I'll wave...
13:27
Oh, I thought you meant you lived in one of these
I'll throw honey at you then
jrg
jrg
@aking1012 I wish.
@jrg Not Bear Grylls, right?
jrg
jrg
@jokerdino No.
wow, we need to get you over here in the US for like a week
and we'll have you watch star wars, star trek, the muppets...
and then you'll be edumacated. ;P
OMG you could watch star trek for years and still never finish
13:29
Jeez
Is this some kind of a plan to do wicked things to me? @.@
jrg
jrg
Perhaps. >_>
@TheX everything after next generation doesn't count
@jokerdino yes we are going to plunder your village, and rape your women and eat your childeren
jrg
jrg
@aking1012 IDK, ST: Enterprise was pretty good - well, the first season was.
@aking1012 yeah but there is a lot before that...
13:30
just jk :S
@jrg valid
i need to fix all the outdated crapware on Windows 7.
jrg
jrg
@aking1012 The Pilot of VOY was also good, but it went downhill after that.
so i guess you're right.
@jokerdino just uninstall it...
it will be better that way.
@jokerdino first thing i do when repairing windows for someone(no not just install ubuntu) -- download any extra drivers they need and make a slipstreamed updates and drivers dvd. backup data and software with alohabob. reinstall. give them the slipstreamed dvd
13:35
@aking1012 actually the first thing I do is clone their current hard disc...
so if anything goes bad I can revert it back to its original condition.
clone might be a good idea, but alohabob is usually pretty awesome
fair enough. but i am just updating all my software
jrg
jrg
i just groan and run.
2
eg firefox, chrome, vlc. etc.
Actually even before I clone it, I stick an extra gig or 2 of ram in it (depending on how much ram the machine already has)
of course I take the ram out when I am done...
13:37
You mean you don't just slave it to your own box? I find that is way faster
@aking1012 depends...
@aking1012 I have a micro-tower so it is a bit harder that way
and only room for one hard drive
Ah.../me has a at/atx mid-tower
Yeah my Media Center PC is...
but that doesn't really help...
The only thing installed on it is XBMC
hooked up to my HD tv... twit.tv has never looked so beautiful
jrg
jrg
shiny toys huh?
must spend budget so don't lose budget...and in-ability of some staff to maintain
jrg
jrg
13:43
Fair enough
I guess I am lucky.. there are only 2 people that work in my dept. and I only see my boss once or 2 a month....
So I just do whatever I want/need to do...
@fossfreedom maybe you can get the right package with
sudo dpkg -S /usr/lib/*/engines/libpixmap.so
email the boss if I need something... like a new iPad...
oh that is actually a good idea...
lib[warning].so
13:46
@TheX Back in the past, that was only a dream. :)
projects.gnome.org/tomboy/download.html - i am confused. what is the current stable release for windows?
Question: When I run >>> lspci | grep VGA<<<I only get >>>01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Seymour [Radeon HD 6400M Series]<<< Does this mean that the integrated graphics are not recognized?
sometimes intel doesn't show up when you grep VGA
grep vid
Ok. How then can I verify that Ubuntu knows that my CPU offers integrated graphics?
@aking1012 do you mean lspci | grep vid?
It does not show anything. In fact, nothing indicated my Intel HD 3000 graphics when running lspci.
@gentmatt intel should show up under lspci | grep vid, or Vid...it used to anyway
jrg
jrg
13:56
lspci | grep Graphics ?
grep VGA :P
jrg
jrg
or VGA, except that macs don't have VGA ports
afaik it's just a name ("VGA compatible controller")
ok, i think i sorted this Tomboy mess in Windows
I wonder which note I replaced incorrectly and which I deleted :S
matthias@matthias:~$ lspci | grep Vid
matthias@matthias:~$ lspci | grep vid
matthias@matthias:~$ lspci | grep Graphics
matthias@matthias:~$ lspci

I guess my integrated graphics are not known? :(
14:03
Here's a question about a similar setup: askubuntu.com/questions/95459/…
Are you sure you didn't already disable it in BIOS to get your video working right in the first place?
This is really troubling to me, because my Macbook Pro runs quite hot just during normal usage. But the battery degrades exponentially faster with increasing temperatures. This is damaging to the hardware. And the Macs have very good batteries.
@aking1012 Not that I'm aware of. I only installed proprietary drivers using this default program that advices you to do just that.
okay. there are bug-reports all over launchpad about both ATI and Nvidia running hot on 12.04. i was just asking since it seemed a reasonable question
Well, thanks for the link. This is the same hardware.
jrg
jrg
@aking1012 interesting, i don't have my ATI card running hot.
neither does mine. i think it's related to some specific cards
@jokerdino You called?
@psusi Now, that's an irritating name :)
jrg
jrg
so it's more or less just metasploit @jokerdino
probably yeah
jrg
jrg
14:15
> was also surprised the social engineering portion of this article was so small...
yeah, let me tell you - social engineering is your biggest concern as an infosec person, not your software.
because you can fix a bug in software - but you can't fix stupid people.
(or even smart people who are deceived.)
device giveaway <-- biggest concern
jrg
jrg
same thing as social engineering imo.
That is social engineering
same. but who doesn't turn on the shiny iPad-like thing they get in inter-office mail?
Exactly
The company should be giving everybody iPads instead
14:19
Smart suggestion ;-)
Wait a second
How did they make Titanic 3d in HD?.....
It wasn't reshot
jrg
jrg
They cheated and made sucky 3D
How could they make things that they dont have footage?
@jrg 18 million :-O
@AmithKK Edge solvers and depth guessers based on scale
+ humans to adjust lots of results
Only part of that I want to see in 3D is right at the end where the guy falls and bounces off the propeller
sadist
but i thought that part was quite realistically depicted.
14:32
@aking1012 lol
Propeller?
I didn't see the movie
Rep count: 7373.
Heya @lazyPower
Yay! Thanks @jrg. :)
14:33
o/
jrg
jrg
Waht?
just dropping in, packing to head out on vacation
@jokerdino Really?
vacation~
jrg
jrg
@jokerdino when did I do anything?
14:34
@AmithKK Dood :'(
@jrg not you? i thought it was you who upvoted. Sorry for the confusion then.
jrg
jrg
not me.
I did though
both of them? thanks and no thanks.
Nope
Whispers in-abominable words
14:36
I did none
i should have just kept my mouth shut. like always
@AmithKK ok i took a screenshot already
