Its moving quick
the last year flew

Yeah, same here.
interesting, if you won't have a webcam Web RTC doesn't seem to work yet
sadface.
Web Real Time Communication.
aka, its's supposed to replace flash for 99% of stuff like G+ hangouts.
UGT morning e1

I didn't see that one.
and UGT happy weekend \m/

good stuff
so i went on a date lastnight, first time in over a year
16:09
@lazyPower yeah, i'm leaving the dating thing alone. it doesn't turn out well for me.
hope it ended well?
@aking1012 lol no matter how much u think u can't just sudo them :-/
i think my problem is quite the opposite, not enough sudo-ing
back to @lazyPower ...it went well we hope
Yeah, walked away with a phone number and had fun
16:11
@aking1012 just think of them as ur Ubuntu box ;)
Planning a trip to TX and DC soon as well.
@lazyPower thats a nice start :)
Wonder how Marco's doing at UDS
nice...wait what? on CentOS??
16:13
yea Ubuntu couldn't compile
:( we discussed last time had some miniperl error then c compiler not finding etc.
yeah. i thought you'ld fix it as opposed to run from it though
I tried but there were too many variables, so took the lesser variable path
but now that I know how to setup kolab I can try Ubuntu :)
there is always that...at least it works
yup :) now gonna try Ubuntu for distribution packages instead of openpkg will update the note accordingly
for now I'll rejoice and play some games, anyone hyped for guild wars 2 over here? or firefall the game?
i've been running through mw3 multiplayer. 25% complete in one sitting though :(
16:20
haha counter strike is the only FPS we play :P
call of duty campaigns started getting too short lately
ohh wow they went full technologically advanced
i think they're going overboard with the new engine thing...like crysis did. stop making new engines and just drop new campaigns on the old engines at 75% of the price. it HAS to be cheaper to develop fun campaigns than engines
exactly
I used to like crysis a lot until farcry games
/me likes both. i particularly enjoyed that multiplayer was a completely different play experience than single player...speaking of crysis2
didn't even try
maybe I should try
anyways afk gonna kill some time with super street fighter IV
heh, later

I tried this in PHP, but when I'm using a while loop it takes me over 12 seconds for 10 calls, which is 1.2 second per call.. what language should I do this?

lol it doesn't support dual boot neither will it run in VM
Is it stable
when linux doesn't provide it -- its lacking in feature when windows doesn't provide it -- those r security features
18:30
@wisemonkey Well... I think it is possible (with a lot of hacking) to get it to dual boot another OS.
@GeorgeEdison ohh yes I know I've tried it but for normal user its not that simple
and when u use it that way u basically void warranty -- I guess

Q: What are the Windows A: and B: drives used for?

Demian KasierIn Windows you have a C: drive. Everything labeled beyond that is with the following letter. So your second drive is D:, your DVD is E: and if you put in a USB stick it becomes F: and the following drive G:. And so on and so forth. But then, what and where are A: and B:?

@wisemonkey What warranty are you referring to?
malware issues ? but as I said its a guess (word of mouth), I never look at warranty

Q: CentOS vs. Ubuntu

DLHI had a web server that ran Ubuntu, but the hard drive failed recently and everything was erased. I decided to try CentOS on the machine instead of Ubuntu, since it's based on Red Hat. im a newbie and im dissappointed with linux
its like theres no help for a newbie out there.i just migrated from windows believing linux is less frustrating than windows but it turns out linux is hell.its not even days since i've installed 12.04 and i've been facing lots of problems
there should be a beginners guide or something like that.linux wont get popular if it keeps on frustrating newbies.
jrg
jrg
@joseph That's the purpose of this site - to help out those who might have issues.
Nevermind, I see it.
hmm,can someone help me out with this : askubuntu.com/questions/132269/… ,

jrg
jrg
Well, here's the deal: There have been a lot of updates since release day, so the first order of business of getting things fixed is to let you do that.
19:30
@jrg yeah i think updates solved my problem with display drivers during the fresh installation even though i don't know how it worked.im believing in updates for solving my problems as of now
@jrg thanks a lot i hope it gets solved quickly
jrg
jrg
hope that answer helps, i'll be back in a little bit.

(so far I'm one of the few who hasn't been bitten by that... :)

i've changed source:from india server to main server
jrg
jrg
it shouldn't.

im trying the procedure again..sudo ppa-purge
jrg
jrg
20:10
oh, i'm stupid. you can'd do a ppa-purge because it doesn't exist. doh.
"updating packages" is taking some time..it didn't take this much time when i tried your solution in the beginning

@joseph: the link in ur question ppa.launchpad.net/unity-team/hud/ubuntu/dists/precise/main/… is not working
I didn't read the whole description but that maybe whats causing u problem
20:21
yeah i saw that when i clicked the link on my terminal
so what should i do now? should i wait for the link to get active or something like that
hmm from where did u get that link?
jrg
jrg
@wisemonkey Go ahead and bring it up in the 2buntu room, i'll see it
or perhaps roland
@joseph ok, here's what i need you to do
run the following in a terminal, and then paste the output here
@wisemonk dont know just started my update manager and tried to update
@jrg ok cool
jrg
jrg
ls /etc/apt/sources.list.d
20:24
paste* the output here
jrg
jrg
@wisemonkey what can I say, i'm a fast typer with a mission
dropbox.list kilian-f_lux-precise.list.save
dropbox.list.save unity-team-hud-precise.list
kilian-f_lux-precise.list unity-team-hud-precise.list.save
is it the dropbox thingy?
jrg
jrg
ok. so now do this:
@jrg I can see that
jrg
jrg
sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/dropbox.list.save unity-team-hud-precise.list /etc/apt/sources/list.d/kilian-f_lux-precise.list unity-team-hud-precise.list.save
and if it asks you if you want to do it, then say yes.
20:27
rm: cannot remove `/etc/apt/sources.list.d/dropbox.list.save': No such file or directory
rm: cannot remove `unity-team-hud-precise.list': No such file or directory
rm: cannot remove `/etc/apt/sources/list.d/kilian-f_lux-precise.list': No such file or directory
rm: cannot remove `unity-team-hud-precise.list.save': No such file or directory
jrg
jrg
oh, i'm sorry. I knew the paste looked weird.
@jrg: added to 2buntu chat
jrg
jrg
sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/unity-team-hud-precise.list*
@wisemonkey i saw it, it looks interesting
@jrg even I thought so :)
20:31
ok done.next?
jrg
jrg

sudo apt-get update
okay
jrg
jrg
and have it 'check for updates'
or update manager :)
20:31
@wisemonkey hehe yeah got it :)
waiting....
@jrg: requested another one but its my own tutorial not sure if will help anyone but in case if it does then somebody should blog about it :)
jrg
jrg
@wisemonkey If you adapt it to ubuntu and then put it as ask ubuntu question/answer, you get reputation, fame and possibly fortune! ;)
lol lets see will try to make it ubuntu
@jrg hey thanks a lot :)...got it :)
afterall how can I say no to fame ^.^
jrg
jrg
20:36
@joseph Yay! I'll update my answer here in a few minutes. :)
@jrg so its a problem with that hud thing right?
or 3rd party ppa while upgrading?
sorry i didn't follow whole conversation just trying to chip in
@jrg by the way it shows there are no updates as of now but could you tell me how to adjust settings on update manager? i mean tweaking update manager is okay right?
@wisemonkey i don't know what ppa means
@joseph: extra software sources (repository) than default ones -- personal package archive
My .htaccess which password protects a directory is suddenly being ignored. What could cause this?
20:42
@wi
@JohnBaber Has your Apache configuration changed?
@wisemonkey important security updates ,recommended updates,pre-release updates unsupported updates
The primary Apache configuration file can be set to ignore .htaccess files.
should i check em all
@George I'm pretty sure I did change something about it recently, but I don't remember what.
jrg
jrg
20:43
@joseph I think you're all set then.
since we fixed the HUD problem, and the other one.
@joseph: yea I think
@JohnBaber Look for an 'AllowOverride' directive in your main Apache configuration file.
@George, actually, I just found it in my command history. A couple of days ago, I installed GD for PHP and restarted the server.
@jrg thanks a lot .faith in linux restored :).its 2 AM in india now i've got to get some sleep
@George That sounds like the right kind of directive.
20:44
@wisemonkey done :)
@George Thank you!
You're welcome.
im gonna tell my buddies about this place
7
@joseph: lol if u stick around for 3-4 months ur faith in any other OS will start degrading ;) anyways UGT night
tell them about askubuntu.com
@wisemonkey hehe hope so.yeah sure i've started telling them about this place when i got great responses to my very 1st question.Gudnite
20:50
@George tl;dr Thanks, you just saved me a few hours of head-scratching.

Yup, that was it. http://site.com/boo to http://site.com/yeah and put a redirect in boo. But I didn't update the apache config to allow yeah to use .htaccess (since allowing .htaccess is off by default) like boo. This was so transparent to me, I had no idea what was going on.
@JohnBaber No problem. I had a similar problem in the past - so that's why it was the first thing I thought of.
jrg
jrg
@joseph Yay! Glad to help. :D
I'm setting that up ASAP. seriously, this is awesome.

questions and answers need to be in english right?
emphasis on need
22:20
Right.
good, so there's two options: (1) close the question, or (2) translate the question
and for answers, either mark that it should go away, or translate the answer, and in either case comment saying it should be in english
same for questions, comment it needs to be in english
Sounds about right.
good, so i'm doing right thus far :P
been in a car for four hours, so...
